unfortunate - mines in David Collett doing construction engineering mgt - halls are approx 1 minute away form the dept.

Really impressed with Loughborough, each hall has fb page and chat group, he's had emails from the hall warden about freshers plans, booking move in help, the course owner has emailed, he has his brochure on the companies that provide sponsorship to get applications sent. They are very proactive.

RedHelenB · 08/09/2017 16:19

Is anyone else finding that all the post is now for our soon to be uni students!?

ErrolTheDragon · 08/09/2017 16:20

The other day we had one bit of junk and 4 for DD from santander!Grin

Oldie2017 · 08/09/2017 16:36

ono, yes second grandchild and will probably be here next week, hopefully not on one of the three separate days I am moving three sons.

One twin is abroad until tonight and then going out and the other is not so far today doing his university registration. I've said if his interpretation of "by" a certain day is wrong it's not going to be my fault. I'd have done it days ago if I were he. No one is buying anything which is fine by me as it means less money spent but as one wll be there by a week today if they need do to anything they had better get on with it.

I am looking forward to living on my own. I will miss them but I will be in touch a lot and they will be back soon enough so I don't actually feel sad about it at all actually.

Horsemad · 08/09/2017 18:22

@hoyhoy44, I asked DS about selection and he said it was team exercises, fitness test - press ups/bleep test and an interview.

HSMMaCM · 08/09/2017 20:24

Registered online today and gave them bank details. It's really happening.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 08/09/2017 20:46

Right then ladies and any gents that might be here

Can i have your help please

Dh's mother is dying he was told tonight, she wont make it til Christmas and he doesn't think she will make it to the end of the week

We are going en famille on sunday and ds1 is going round somtime during the week

He doesn't know she is dying, and i dont know if/when to tell him

She might last a few months...but I doubt it

HSMMaCM · 08/09/2017 20:56

I told DD when her grandfather was dying, so she had a chance to say goodbye. I would tell him now, so he can prepare himself before he goes.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 08/09/2017 20:58

Thank you HSMM

I suppose he gets the upset bit out of the way a little bit

Auntpetunia2015 · 08/09/2017 21:21

I'd tell him. When my mum died last year I told my two 17 and 14 at the time and we went to say goodbye. It meant they had time to process it and get suppor of friends before it happened, which in mums case was a week.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 08/09/2017 21:23

Thank you aunt

So without taking over the whole thread it seems that tell him is best...will talk to dh about when to tell them tomorrow

Thank you

As you were Smile

user327854831 · 08/09/2017 21:26

Yes! I haven't had any letters for weeks but they have had more this last three weeks than they have ever had.
Rufus, I think I would tell him but I've not told either of mine that a grandparent is dying, but that's because they haven't seen them for five years - long story which isn't for this thread.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 08/09/2017 21:59

Thanks user

You are all right

He was worried the other day that we were keeping something from him...we weren't at that time, and i did say that if there was anything for him to worry about i would tell him

Soooo i ought to tell him...or dh should

dotdotdotmustdash · 08/09/2017 22:50

We're one week in...

"Mum, how do you cook a whole chicken?"

It went well I think!

It's real now - leaving home to go to uni (part 3)
Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 08/09/2017 22:58

Oooh thats very good dotdot

Ds1 was asking me how to cook scrambled eggs...baby steps, baby steps

Horsemad · 09/09/2017 00:07

Looks brilliant dotdotdotmustdash, your DC won't starve Smile

Flowers Rufus, I think it best to tell DS sooner rather than later, whilst you are able to offer support in person.

BehindTheBlueDoor · 09/09/2017 09:29

So sorry to hear your news Rufus. I would tell him soon too. It's better to be prepared. Flowers

Crispsheets · 09/09/2017 09:39

Ex is taking ds next week....Ive done all the shopping and General stuff so ts his turn to be practical. I'm taking myself for lunch with a friend so I don't have to see him. I'm impressed with ds's organisation and financial savvyness......truly growing up.
Won't be watching Toy Story 3.

HSMMaCM · 09/09/2017 10:41

DD was looking through some of the stuff I have added to her uni stash and wanted to know why she has enough tampons to supply the whole uni for a year Grin

OddBoots · 09/09/2017 11:11

HSMMaCM - the look on DS's face questioned me in much the same way when I handed him a variety box of 40 condoms. I am sure they will be giving them away at Freshers too but I didn't want to take the chance he wouldn't notice or would be too awkward to get any.

DjangoUnchained · 09/09/2017 11:52

What I wish I knew about uni

GetAHaircutCarl · 09/09/2017 12:19

I have a houseful here today. All staving off their hangovers and talking about buying duvetsGrin.

Such a great bunch of kids. It's been a privilege getting to know them all these last two years.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 09/09/2017 12:56

Got the last little bit for his moving in basket/leaving mummy behind basket

So i can wrap that up, the plan is to give it to him once he has moved in so he has something else to do...as well as all the stuff they have to do Grin

Planning next friday night...whatever he wants to do, movie, games, a nice tea in or out

And this time next week we will be driving home

Thanks for all the comments, sitting the children down this pm to tell them together Thanks

Oldie2017 · 09/09/2017 13:02

The only person packing here is their older brother but it's up to them. I don't think they've much to take anyway.

Sorry about the grandparent. My children have had funerals of all 4 grandparents in the last few years. Very sad. My mother didn't want visits from the 9 grandchildren when she was dying - she specifically said so. She wanted them to remember her healthy so that was fine. My father on the other hand was with the youngest grandchildren on the day he died and that was nice too. I think with an 18 year old they probably are entitled to know the grandparent is seriously ill. Also it depends how close they are how it will be. Mine were upset but only saw them a few times a year as all 4 lived a few hundred miles away. Their friend is closer to his grandmother than his parents and she lives round the corner. Our neighbour's son was brought up with and lived until he died with both sets of grandparents so when one died recently it was very very sad - same for the father - he had lived with his parents just about the whole of his life, every single day.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 09/09/2017 13:43

Thanks oldie

They are very close, less so since she got sick at the beginning of last summer because she didnt want visitors particularly...just didnt want to make the children go round really, doesnt like the idea of putting people out

And we live in the same village, ds is going about 45 minute drive away but when she moves into the hospice it will be a little further

Ironically last September was when i started thinking i shoukd take her out for coffee more regularly but then she got sicker and just wasn't bothered
