I hope he is happy with the hair cut.

HSMMaCM · 07/09/2017 09:11

I realised this morning I am going to miss some firsts. Not as breathtaking as first steps etc but things like:

  • first time she tastes sour milk
  • first time she realises bread can go stale/mouldy
  • first time she realises what "there's no food in this house" really means
Etc Grin
ErrolTheDragon · 07/09/2017 09:15

The first time she runs out of loo roll...or coffee!

GetAHaircutCarl · 07/09/2017 09:31

Just a point of information, possibly too late for many/most but a student HSBC account comes with free Amazon Prime.

Needmoresleep · 07/09/2017 09:39

HSMMaCM you must have a more organised house than us. DH does not seem to believe in use by dates. And poor DC became adapt at boiling pasta and heating up sauce from an early age. The problem of having two parents working full time. Rather than feel guilty, perhaps I should see it as us preparing them for University.

HSMMaCM · 07/09/2017 12:06

Not organised at all, but I work at home and have a food licence, so gone off food and no food is not an option.

She will definitely run out of loo roll, she uses tonnes of the stuff.

Oldie2017 · 07/09/2017 12:22

Hair cut looks good (he was very pleased his hair dresser man and the other lady there both liked his new beard !). He's sorting out his teeth first - got his 2017 priorities right - looks uber alles I suppose...... Braces should come off next week and he's just gone off to the dentist.

OddBoots · 07/09/2017 17:14

DS has just got his new copy of 'Nosh for Students' and wants to try one of the meals for us tonight, the 'quick shepherd's pie' which is rather lacking in vegetables so I will add a salad.

I have given him a supply of vitamin pills for when he is away as I suspect he won't add much veg.

mummmy2017 · 07/09/2017 17:39

My DD has just been told by friends who have moved into the private block she is going to this year, that they have to pay £250 extra to move in, as the grants won't be paid in time to meet the rent for the term, it's coming off the amount she pays on 12th Oct, but thought people needed to be aware this might happen.

hoyhoy44 · 07/09/2017 17:56

Im going to try and get dd a stash of Vitamins to take with her, she takes B12 daily as she has a veggie diet but dont think vitamins will be top of her budget !

Stopyourhavering · 07/09/2017 18:21

Ds has been at Uni since Saturday....not heard much from him until this afternoon when he texted to say he was off to do his laundry!Grin
He's considering which societies to join and so far thinks he may join the air training cadets ( free ski holidays and apparently you get paid!)

HSMMaCM · 07/09/2017 20:24

I have included a months supply of vitamins (which should last until Christmas because DD will forget)

MorvahRising · 07/09/2017 23:44

Hello - may I join in? DS is off to Southampton- I see from upthread that there are several other Southamptonites here too. He's got a room in Chamberlain at Glen Eyre which he's pleased about but doesn't know which flat yet.

We did an IKEA shop on Monday; it was packed with prospective students and their parents. Agreed with several parents in the queue for the till (all with identical clothes airers and waste paper baskets) that we're probably buying far too much!

Horsemad · 08/09/2017 05:55

Stopyourhavering, yes they do get paid in the University Air Squadron and get lots of great opportunities. My DS1 joined and enjoyed it very much.

hoyhoy44 · 08/09/2017 08:53

Horsemad do you know what the requirements were dd is looking into it but worried how difficult the selection days will be

unfortunateevents · 08/09/2017 09:11

Were we all in IKEA on Monday?! There was a definite vibe of uni students with (or without in some cases) parents stocking up on mugs and laundry baskets. DS's room is filling up nicely with boxes and bags, cobbled together a sewing kit and first aid kit yesterday to add to the pile.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 08/09/2017 10:13

unfortunate

I am just praying that ds1 isnt kn the top floor

When we visited the university some students were showing their rooms, one of the volunteers lived on the 6th floor

Cue me stood at the bottom thinking...how much different can it be from the photo

Ironically the house we didn't visit was the one ds1 was given initially, we appealed for various reasons....but i know our punishment for appealing will be a room on the top floor Grin

unfortunateevents · 08/09/2017 12:19

Rufus sorry can't remember where your DS is going but for us at Loughborough if DS is on the top floor of his chosen accommodation it will be the 20th floor!! Shock They have a very efficient unpacking service but I can just imagine the queue for the lifts even with that.

Eve · 08/09/2017 14:06

unfortunate - DS is going to Loughbrough as well. But sound like different halls to you.

unfortunateevents · 08/09/2017 14:21

Eve DS will be in Towers, doing design, so could almost roll out of bed into lectures. What about your DS?

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 08/09/2017 14:23

Oh god unfortunate !!!

Ds1 is concerned about us being unable to unpack in time, i did way that they have student helpers to carry boxes

Now he is worried they are going to hate him Grin

He is so excited and im getting sadder and sadder

And this should be our crowning achievement, a child with the confidence to leave home, with the capacity to make a sucess of his life, a kind, good, funny young man. A young man who is affectionate and loving toward his family....

But i dont want him to go...he is aways here and has always been here

ono40 · 08/09/2017 15:00

Oldie, how exciting! Sounds like it isn't your first grandchild.

TheMightyMing · 08/09/2017 15:07

My PFB and only DS goes a week Sunday. Still rushing round buying stuff and thinking about tackling his clothes packing. Dreading it to be honest. My husband and I didn't live together before we were married and DS came along very quickly, hence we have never really lived together the two of us. Not sure how it's going to be and we will both miss DS terribly. He's very excited though.

bigTillyMint · 08/09/2017 15:17

I had a very tearful day a couple of weeks back, but feel quite excited for DD now. But there iz no doubt I will be blubbing next Sat Grin

mummmy2017 · 08/09/2017 15:21

Mine has a facebook group for new rooms, and had one for old rooms last year it helped they knew people to say hello too.
