I have told my twins about all these lovely mumsnetters teenagers who go shopping with their parents. Mine have just done the one stuff (most of it) - registration for hall arrival time with some to be done on Monday when registration opens. One who had course options to choose has done that.
If they cannot be bothered to look at lists of things to get together then that's great for me - less full car and then they will have to buy the stuff - win win all round as far as I am concerned. Anyway the university says travel light. We did have a useful converstaion about cooking (catered hall) as they do loads at home from scratch - I have not cooked for them for years so that will be a big change and I think they will not even have a hob where they are going.

I have not bought one his promised lap top yet as he has not bothered to choose it. At this rate he will be getting it after he goes..... he says it cakes 24 hours only to arrive so there is no rush yet apparently.

Yes, someone mentioned above Bristol where they are going - I did also read that they can download word or office so they will probably not both buy Office. I have found one at home but it's old and I am not sure if we have used all the licences up on it yet. I did think taking their laser colour printer might be really useful but it's huge and i think they don't want to.

They will be in different catererd Bristol halls and have just found out two boys from school are in a third one near by too or will be when they all get up there. By massive chance a boy at a local school emailed my son - both going to Bristol and then they met on the tube - these boys have never met in their lives, go to totally different schools (my 2 private school, this boy the local comprehensive - but all live enar by ) and just after they met on line they met on a random tube train which is nice as that boy is doing the same subject as one of mine.

LittleHo · 03/09/2017 14:02

Flowers Dooby.

I had the same back in Autumn / Spring when my Mum was terminally ill. It is a real juggling act but so worth bringing your sons back and forth to see her. I'm glad now that I did the same.

Oldie2017 · 03/09/2017 14:21

Dooby, both my parents were very interested in my older children at university in their last days. I think it shows them that the next generation will do all right and is a big comfort to them. Good luck with it all. My older daughter had to fly from Bristol to Newcastle for the funeral of my mother when she was away at university. She read so well in the reading. i will always remember and be grateful for the fact she turned up and made the effort. We gave her my mother's little old car too which she drove back down to university as no one else in the family wanted or needed it.

My Dad was a great fan of higher education and he would be so proud of DD heading off. I'm sure he's looking down with a big smile on his face.

BehindTheBlueDoor · 03/09/2017 17:54

indulgentberries · 03/09/2017 20:06

behind that's really stupid, what do you do that for? Next thing some idiot will watch Mamma Mia, though surely nobody would be that daft would they? WinkConfused

indulgentberries · 03/09/2017 20:08

We ended up visiting the uni town today, we have seen the halls and they look pretty good with lots nearby. I've not driven in a city for years and years so that was an experience.

Changing the subject, we are now watching X factor and I've discovered that I can sing when compared to Jo ConfusedShock

rogueantimatter · 03/09/2017 22:20

There are some nice meditation bells online if that would be any use to your DM dooby. You can set them to chime at whatever interval you choose and have guided meditations or silent meditations.

Stopyourhavering · 03/09/2017 23:07

Just back from 720 mile round trip to drop son off.... went well, he's got a lovely room ( bigger than his bedroom at home!)
Met up with rest of flat mates and went out to Union last night .... had a great night and was heading into town for lunch with flat mates and trip to Argos to buy hairdryer and toaster machine as we headed home!.... planning on cooking a stir fry for evening meal .... promising start
Matriculates tomorrow and gets his timetable , then societies day on Wednesday- he's talking about joning ski club and air cadets and organising a gym membership!

bevelino · 03/09/2017 23:14

Stop that is good to hear. I hope your ds appreciates everything you have done for him. 720 miles ouch!

HSMMaCM · 04/09/2017 07:48

DD is off on a short break with 2 friends today. She's booked it, paid for it and arranged transport without any help from me (except a request for a lift to the station).

Perhaps she can manage without me
