University offers for 2017 start (Part 2)

Continuation of the original thread which is now on to 40 page maximum.
Original thread (part 1) here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/higher_education/2759621-Uni-offers-for-2017-start?

Most offers now received. My twins have had offers from their 4 and are currently deciding which will be firm and which insurance. One twin
( possibly two of them) is going to an offer holders' day coming up at Bristol next month with his friends from school.

Well done. ... we are just having to wait until A level results day and both twins and I seem fairly relaxed at about it. If it goes badly then we will just deal with it at the time. It would be unfair as they have worked hard and had good grades in the sixth form but so do a lot of sixth formers. It will be nice when the uncertainty is over.

HSMMaCM · 08/08/2017 13:13

9 days to go Grin

aginghippy · 08/08/2017 13:29

It will be nice when the uncertainty is over.

Amen to that!

Eve · 08/08/2017 17:08

the date is looming large - tomorrow it will be a week away! not that I am counting ( its also 1 year anniversary of losing my mum - so going to be super emotional - have warned work if I am a wreck I am not coming in!)

BehindTheBlueDoor · 08/08/2017 17:36

We're away on our family holiday with very intermittent internet so have been 'forgetting' all about results. Have just seen news today and that Scottish higher results are out. DS very quiet and admitted to a host of butterflies in his stomach. He's not the only one.

Stopyourhavering · 08/08/2017 18:30

Ds has admitted he's fairly resigned to whatever the outcome is next Thursday....especially as the Universitys will probably have their A level results by now and making their decisions regarding who to accept/reject!

Lucysky2017 · 08/08/2017 19:18

My own sense is that despite the change from old to new system for some of their A levels it will not be a bad year to be applying - universities keen to keep numbers up, fewer teenagers applying. I suspect if mine drop a grade they might still keep their places but I might be wrong. It will be a bit sad if the one who needs higher grades for Bristol than his twin doesn't get his place given the other will then be going there. We shall see.

HSMMaCM · 08/08/2017 19:29

Eve Flowers my father died a few years ago and anniversaries are still hard.

doglover · 08/08/2017 20:27

We have one very stressed and snappy DD here. Really wish the A level results were this Thursday rather than next!

Lucysky2017 · 09/08/2017 08:25

My two have not been looking stressed but probably would not talk about it if they did. They did get to the front row on a live Big Brother thing last night with their friends.I could not bear to watch more than 5 minutes I'm afraid ( not my kind of programme nor indeed does one of them even watch it but he went along for the fun) but I did manage to film them briefly - their one claim to "fame". Hopefully that distracted them from A level considerations. As they are not identical twins and look totally different this post will not identify them (I hope)

Mines at Boomtown this weekend.

8hour queue to get in yesterday, but all well today !!

BestIsWest · 11/08/2017 16:48

Mine too Eve. He finally got in at 11:30 pm last night

Minerbird · 12/08/2017 00:07

Daughter needed a B at Scottish Higher; got an A and is now off to first choice uni :)

HSMMaCM · 12/08/2017 01:15

Ooh, results out in Scotland already?

Lucysky2017 · 12/08/2017 07:51

Miner - well done and to get more than she needed is even better.
It will be interesting in England this year to compare the new and old style A levels by results as children are doing a mixture.

readsalotgirl63 · 12/08/2017 18:21

Yes Scottish results came out on August 08 - was quite stressful last weekend and on Monday here. Fortunately dd got an A and a B at Advanced Higher ( needed 2 Bs ) so is also off to first choice uni. She's joined some Facebook groups but it seems she won't know who her flat mates are until she arrives which is a bit of a pain cos we can't try to arrange in advance who will bring which bit of kitchen equipment for student flat.

Eve · 13/08/2017 09:55

Obviously I am more worried than I think I am ... had a dream where he got a D in a subject and didn't get his place and couldn't get another place! Woke up in quite a panic!

goodbyestranger · 13/08/2017 10:36

I'm a bit nervous too Eve, DS had a couple of really really bad papers. No dreams as yet!

dingit · 13/08/2017 10:51

Dd had a bit of a row with one of her old school chums last night. The girl has an unconditional offer and already know her grades ( btec) She kept asking dd if she had bought stuff including freshers tickets. Dd kept saying she doesn't know where or if she's going, and is worried she messed up two papers following the sudden death of her grandad. The girl told her to stop stressing, and anyway losing Someone suddenly isn't as bad as losing someone to cancer. There are no words...

HSMMaCM · 13/08/2017 11:15

Oh dingit. Apart from having no social graces, the other girl will have no concept of what your DD is feeling, as she hasn't lost a close relative suddenly and isn't worried about her results and uni place.

Had a chat with DD this morning and she's adamant she's not going back for retakes. Keeping our fingers crossed.

LittleHo · 13/08/2017 11:31

Lots of stories in the papers about grade boundaries having been lowered to avoid catastrophe. It sounds like these new exams are creating chaos.

dd had one dream that she got 110% in everything and another dream that she got four U's. I think it will probably be somewhere in between! Smile

Lucysky2017 · 13/08/2017 22:16

It is certainly going to be an interest year. My feeling is it is not a bad year to be applying, plenty of places etc.

TheMightyMing · 13/08/2017 22:20

Oh God! I've only the one child , DS seems fairly chilled but is desperate for his first choice. Bit aspirational in terms of grades but we will see. I'm feeling pretty stressed. Just want him to be happy! Then we'll have to work out how to pay for it, (minimum Loan etc) . Good luck , think I'll be popping back for a handhold 😫

Lucysky2017 · 14/08/2017 09:08

He might be able to get some work to help pay for it. One of my teenagers has just started delivering meals for Deliveroo on his bike 3 nights a week and loves it and I think in particular loves earning his own money. Hopefully he's saving it up for university costs.

HSMMaCM · 14/08/2017 09:25

Tensions are high in this house. Not helped by DD rolling in at 4:30 this morning after randomly helping a friend with a stock take. Glad she did it, not glad to be woken up and anticipating her migraine later.
