Continuation of the original thread which is now on to 40 page maximum.
Original thread (part 1) here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/higher_education/2759621-Uni-offers-for-2017-start?

Most offers now received. My twins have had offers from their 4 and are currently deciding which will be firm and which insurance. One twin
( possibly two of them) is going to an offer holders' day coming up at Bristol next month with his friends from school.

Just marking place really for advice etc.

DS is in the unusual position of having a confirmed deferral from last year but has the possibility of a better course depending on the result of an additional A level he took this year.

randomer · 21/07/2017 12:16

For information Liverpool hope is very good

Lucysky2017 · 21/07/2017 13:39

(She had consent from the farmer and I think it was stabled over night but she did all the work with it and paid a fairly low fee to the farm)

LittleHo · 21/07/2017 15:37

I wonder what would win the prize for the strangest thing / pet anyone has taken to university?

I bet there are some brilliant stories.

Peaceandl0ve · 21/07/2017 17:29

My DD started last year. She kept her current account which is where we pay her allowance and she usesthis for living on, it has no overdraft facility, a good thing whilst she is learning how to budget. She opened a student account for her student loan ,this is the account from which she pays bills and tops up her current acc.

So far this is working very well for her, she has an overdraft if she needs it but cant slip into it by accident. Also good because it limits the worry/damage each time she goes out and looses her purse! The credit card stays behind in her room at night.

HSMMaCM · 24/07/2017 13:46

Dd was telling me a lovely story yesterday about her friend who's just finished her first year at uni. Her parents are paying for her accommodation, living expenses AND extra for clubbing. She didn't look happy when I just replied "that's nice for her. We won't be able to do that for you".

I know the friends parents and they are NOT the sort to pay extra for clubbing Grin

Lucysky2017 · 24/07/2017 15:45

Indeed. Teenagers from time immemorial have always gone on about what other parents do for their children. A lot of it is not entirely correct....

Lindor · 28/07/2017 16:16

Hope you are all weathering the wait for results well. I thought DD had mostly forgotten about it until yesterday when she admitted to thinking about it most days, including re-examining how she did in her various exams.
Still, only 20 days to go and they (we) can all move on.

wishing you all a good summer break if you're off on holiday, or hoping work is not too tedious if not x

Mytimenow · 28/07/2017 16:33

DS1 has his results already as did Btec got Triple Distinction so got above his offer of DDM but still waiting for offer to go unconditional firm, was hoping for it to be done by now and might have had accomodation offer on 1st August in first run of allocation. I'm annoying myself asking if he's heard anything yet!

HSMMaCM · 28/07/2017 17:15

DD said yesterday she doesn't want to get her results. I think she's worried.

BehindTheBlueDoor · 28/07/2017 17:57

About to go on holiday-back on the Monday before results. Hoping this will take DS's (and my) mind off it all for a while. Hope you're all enjoying some downtime. Take care all.

Lucysky2017 · 28/07/2017 18:09

Well done to Mytime son.
My tqins are quite relaxed. In fact one is waiting to the deadline to apply for accommodation - say he has loads of time as the deadline is 31 July. As one has to have better results than the other for Bristol I hope if one doesn't get in they don't take to heart too much . The back up will be fine although he did say he might try clearing in another subject and they do think their school over predicted predicted grades. Anyway we'll see.

They are all fine. We are back from holiday already. I am glad one is getting motorway practice on a few drives. They passed driving tests over a year ago but not been on motorways until now. Lots of stuff going on like dental appointments and occasional discussion with me about what I pay for after September eg NHS dental appointments I think I've agreed to.

dotdotdotmustdash · 29/07/2017 11:08

Both DS20 (ASD) and DD18 have confirmed places for this year, in cities an hour each way in different directions. Accommodation is booked and now we're shopping for bedding and cookware. Exciting times!

They're both leaving the same weekend, DD on the Saturday and DS on the Sunday. On the Monday I shall mostly be being an empty husk of a woman.

Lucysky2017 · 29/07/2017 12:42

Mine are just going to have to take their duvets and sheets from home as their siblings did but then I have just paid for a new lap top for university for one twin and the other will also be getting one which is a fair bit more expensive than some sheets I expect. If mine end up at different places we will have to do the Saturday one and Sunday the other.

Lucysky2017 · 30/07/2017 17:28

At last; the last twin has put in their university accommodation application. At least that is done.

Next stage is A level results.

My phone countdown

University offers for 2017 start (Part 2)
bebumba · 30/07/2017 21:48

Looking at that timer I would have no nails left!

Eve · 31/07/2017 16:33

DS1 has 1st result in!

Distinction * in this Level 3 science Btec. Just got the 2 A Levels to go!

Lucysky2017 · 31/07/2017 16:45

Well done to the Eve son.
My son says no need to get up early on results day as it won't affect the results. I think their plan is to wake before 9am, check on line and then if they haven't got their places I would go into school with them for 9.30 - 10am. If they have their places so nothing complex to discuss at school then I won't go in with them and they don't want me there. If they have their places and even so the results appear wrong they will do an appeal. I did show one a Times article recently suggesting there may be some issues this year (as they are the guinea pig year with the new and old system applying etc).

hugoagogo · 31/07/2017 17:23

Can I join in with the fretting?

Stopyourhavering · 31/07/2017 20:05

If my ds gets his first choice, he'll be leaving home ( and travelling 340 miles) just over 2 weeks after results day!....that's just over 4 weeks away, he's the last of my 3dcs to go to Uni....( and dh and I are off on first child free holidaying 24 yrs!!)

Lucysky2017 · 31/07/2017 22:12

A big change. Whem y twins go their big brother will leave too so for the first time in 33 years I will be child free. Orgies in the living room I have been joking to them......

Mytimenow · 02/08/2017 21:18

DS still not got unconditional firm so missed out on first accommodation allocation, so will now be with the A level allocation on 17th August. Just hoping he will get UC firm as he got above original offer. I can't stand the waiting let alone him!!

BestIsWest · 03/08/2017 07:08

DS who deferred his clearing offer from last year has just been told he won't get his accommodation allocated until this years clearing is underway. He's understanderbly very anxious and upset now since he is hearing from friends with unconditionals from this year at the same uni that they have got their first choice.

Mytimenow · 08/08/2017 11:38

At last! Ds1 got his offer firmed today, so relieved. Good luck to all the A level students for their results. I definitely think teen years are the most stressful. I've still got 2 more DS to come through, DS2 starts Y10 and GCSE this year and DS3 starts Y7 in a large comprehensive where the Y7 size is the same size as his whole primary school!
