Following on from comment on last thread someone made about not wanting their kids to get into debt to the tune of £15k studying English, just to end up doing someone's admin for the next 30 years.

DH studied History and is a Lawyer

I studied Law and I am in IT

Go figure!

tamum · 23/05/2006 14:49

Am wracking my brains, MrsB- I can feel a CAT coming on :o I do know quite a few people there...

niceglasses · 23/05/2006 15:00

I did Librarianship.......dun dun dun dun. Lots of jokes about stamping books etc. It was quite dull (okay a lot dull) but I've always had a job........Mickey Mouse?? Me?

Then I did and MSc in Computing as the work I did just sort of led that way. Then worked on big systems in libraries. Then got pregs again and again and again.

No have no brian at all, at all. But am very good at drinking wine whilst making chicken nuggets.

niceglasses · 23/05/2006 15:00

Look can't even spell brain ffs. Lordy.

MissChief · 23/05/2006 15:01

Me - english, done nothing with it, currently doing a nursing degree which will give me a career
DP - computer science, he works with computers but is job hunting and doesn't mind what field he ends up in

FrayedKnot · 23/05/2006 15:20

French & Italian - I spent most of the last 14 years doing someone's admin..albeit sometimes in French & Italian! Then I sidestepped into management information / IT stuff which I am trying to get back into while..yep, you guessed it, doing someone else's admin..

Well I suppose I must be quite good at it

tamum · 23/05/2006 15:54

MrsBadger, are you 1st author??? I work beside your major collaborators...

tamum · 23/05/2006 15:56

Sorry, just sussed it- 1st and last are the couple, right??

twocatsonthebed · 23/05/2006 16:01

What a fascinating thread!

us?

English Lit then Design History (i.e. poncing round art college and museums). I'd wanted to work in museums but it rather put me off, so I'm now a tv producer. I did once specialise in design on tv, but now I do all sorts of nonsense.

Dp: Zoology, which has led finally to typesetting and DTP, via the Globe Theatre...

The swallows fly south will be our call sign.

Actualy I'm lying, I'll stand you up again Blush

tamum · 23/05/2006 16:34

:o

I did wonder after I wrote that why on earth I was being so coy, since I have said many times on here that I'm in Edinburgh...

MrsBadger · 23/05/2006 16:36

and I never noticed and assumed you were in Chelsea!
[smacks forehead]
oh well, the LK Bennet sale shop is good if you do happen to chance that way...

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 23/05/2006 16:37

me politics and philosophy; then MPhil in Middle Eastern Studies - journalist for specialist Middle East publication for 3 years; then a researcher for an NGO on the Middle East; then moved into policy work for same NGO, don;t use degree now but couldn't have got there via the same route without it

dh: Engineering; PhD in engineering/robotics - abt 6 months in engineering then got bored and hauled his sorry ass off into the city. where he does lots of very complicated sums that he probably wouldn't be able to do without his Phd. Virtually all his colleagues have PhDs in Maths or Physics. A handful have MBAs but they're light-weights
