General healthy eating and exercise thread with aim of losing weight / shaping up. Aim to eat 10 portions of fruit and veg a day, and do more exercise. No bizarre diets please. Weigh in day is Monday (you don't have to weigh in but we will punish you by with-holding stickers). Diet coke will be frowned upon.

Oh good. Sounds like they enjoyed it?

It is bigger than a shed really but looks like it might blow away in a huff and a puff.

I like stormy weather but from inside mostly.

I have overeaten salmon pasta and then stuffed in plum crumble. I am going to roll myself to bed.

pointydog · 13/08/2010 21:49

Hm. The weather was too awful to enjoy it as they were camping. But they didn't not enjoy it. You have your magnificent shed so it should be fun.

So, after my

g'fruit juice
slice toast and spruced up houmus
banana
lots spinach and leek filo pie
houmus and lots carrot sticks
bit of pitta

that'll be maybe up to 7

Guadalupe · 13/08/2010 21:58

Oh. That's a shame.

Well, I am glad I have a shed. I hope it stays up! I will read and eat and have saunas and watch the winds making campers lives a misery.

CoupleofKooks · 14/08/2010 09:50

have campers on this thread read the tent, the bucket and me?
just wondering
i read it recently (is one of those "so hilarious" books that everyone tells you to read, in actuality is kind of mildly funny) but it did put me off camping again this year
i think we are too tired, we like to camp and the boys LOVE it, but we come home feeling like we need a holiday to recover from the camping

anyway
we are going on a one night holiday in suffolk and staying in a travelodge
i'm looking forward to it

I haven't read that book. It does look funny. Camping is really hard work I think, especially as we mostly don't go for that long. It only really becomes relaxing when you are there for ages and you have a real routine or system going and then you can start to get into a more natural rhythm iyswim. Going to bed earlier, being tired from things you should be tired from like constant physical activity and being outdoors.

We used to camp for 3-4 weeks years ago and that was good. It take such a major effort to get set up and going you need a good while to rest. Not really possible to go for that long now though.

homemade bluebrry muffin
sushi
watermelon I ate LOADS of it, very greedy

don't know whst to have for dinner though the shopping has just arrived. I am tired. We've been to see princess and pea at the puppet theatre and it was an effort.

Guadalupe · 14/08/2010 18:02

not watching it, I love the puppet theatre but GETTING there, and getting uniforms and shoes sorted on the way. Major pain.

I might have a superior fishfinger sandwich.

CoupleofKooks · 14/08/2010 18:12

oh i always feel puppet theatres are an effort
i've don't think i've ever really seen one i liked- i find puppets a bit sinister, like clowns

agree completely about camping - the packing and setting up is a hassle
in addition my children don't go to sleep and then wake up saying "what is that noise?" and then get up for the day about 4 am when the sun comes up
i love seeing their little faces when they wake up and peek out of the tent at the outdoors, and having a fire and breakfast on the beach and all that, but i just couldn't face the sheer KNACKEREDNESS of it all this year

cereal fruit seeds raisins = 4
lettuce tomato cucumber chickpeas cheese bread oil balsamic vinegar and dukkah (yum) = 2
4 little chocolates
dried apricots = 1
baked beans and butter beans on toast, butter and cheese = 2
a not very nice apple = 1
small piece of apple cake

am going to have nice fruit and ice cream i think, to make 12

went on a 67 min run which was my first ever 10k i think
i didn't have the foot measury thing on me but i tend to run fairly constant pace so i reckon it was 10k
will do another time and check though

There's alove ly puppet theatre near us and I was v sad when the dds were too big to go any more.

For a while I mused that camping would be fun. But then I changed my mind. I found the in-laws' caravan hard going after a couple of years.

g'fruit juice
boiled egg and slice of buttered toast (mmm)
slice of spinach, leek, feta pie
banana
another banana
chicken, bit of potato salad, pea and bean salad
crusts of dd1's pizza. Couldn't resist.

6 I'd say

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 14/08/2010 19:20

Your holiday is Harris sounds the business Guad. Make sure you report back on the eagles and whales.

I think glamping is a great, if not naff, phrase. I like the IDEA of camping, but not the REALITY. My sister has just bought a trailer tent. We had one when we were younger and they're more of a half way house than camping in a tent I think.

We've just come back from our friends house. They had a little do in their garden for his birthday. DS was in heaven. Loads of room to run around, lots of nooks and crannies to hide in, snacks out on the table that can be snaffled at any and every opportunity, and last but not least chocolate cake. He was very tired and filthy tired. Both of which are signs of a good time.

Guadalupe · 14/08/2010 19:21

Really? I thought you would like puppets. I love it. I love the textiles and woodenness of it, the atmosphere and projections and just the storytelling really.

Our puppet theatre is in an old church and there are some very steep tiered wooden benches and it's dark and a bit magical.

The camping packing and putting away is minimised by having a van. It does make a difference as it's only really putting in clothes and some food and not long to set up the awning. It's quite buffered from noise too. I certainly wouldn't be popping here and there if I had to set up a tent and the kitchen sink every time. I recommend them. I recommend one that works even more.

pointydog · 14/08/2010 19:23

oo, I came across the word 'glamping' a few days ago and I HAVE DONE IT!

We went to a little hobbit house last year which was for hire on a camp/caravna site. Friends were in the one next to us. A wooden cylindrical house with plastic mattress beds (room for 4), a little heater and a tv! Barbecue site and tables outside and you used the campsite facilites for toilet/kettle.

It was fab because the weather was gorgeous for September.

We are planning to go again this September.

pointydog · 14/08/2010 19:25

Our puppet theatre has tiny lights in atrological constellation figurations on the black ceiling. It is so so peaceful to look up into it.

Guadalupe · 14/08/2010 19:25

yes, we are glamping next week on the farm. Tent already there with floorboards and woodburner.

Are they def too old, pointy? You sometimes see groups of teenage girls in there. Perhaps it is one of those things that you grow out of and into again when it becomes cool.

No fishfinger sandwich. I shamefully left the shopping unpacked and abandoned dcs to go over the road and buy a big slice of roast vegetable tart with a binham blue crumb topping, caraway and red cabbage coleslaw and rocket salad and a gluten free beer. Well, 2 beers. Blush Dh is in london and I am going to collapse on sofa and watch crap tv.

Guadalupe · 14/08/2010 19:27

Is that a yurt or something different? My friend had one of those on te fiel last week with six week old baby.

It did look like a hobbit house with smoke coming out of it! They both have quite wide hairy feet too.

pointydog · 14/08/2010 19:27

Yes, too old. Their shows are aimed at very young children.

I could maybe take them in a nostalgic/ironic way if they agree.

pointydog · 14/08/2010 19:28

no, not a yurt. They are officially called micro lodges I think. I will try to find pic.

pointydog · 14/08/2010 19:30

this is it. Obv some pictures are of tents and things but you will spot the hobbit house.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 14/08/2010 19:36

blurbery pancakes
banana
tuna panini with salad and coleslaw
olives
gerkins
pretzels
small slice of choc cake
Have no idea what to have for dinner .....

Guadalupe · 14/08/2010 19:36

Oh wow, they look fab. I've never heard of those before. Looks a little bit like a gypsy caravan too.

Guadalupe · 14/08/2010 19:37

My dinner is smelling mighty fine I must say.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 14/08/2010 19:40

Oh, that looks good Pointy.

I want to stay in one of these

I would also like to stay in a yurt. DH would rather stick pins in his eyes. Spoil sport.

Were are all of these puppet theatres????? I've never heard of them. I am jealous.

pointydog · 14/08/2010 19:43

ah, I think they have those ekopods on Mull. I have always fancied giving it a try.

Yes, like a gypsy caravan thing too. Right on the beach at Crail. Fantastic, sitting out finishing the barbecue, drinking, sun goes down and you see the little fishing boats blinking on the sea.

And if it does pour down, a quick trip to St Andrews is all you need.

pointydog · 14/08/2010 19:44

Do you mean you have a shop that sells that vegetable pie and whaynot right across the road from your house, guad?
