wubblybubbly · 21/04/2010 22:02

Soz for the hassle Lewis - I obviously haven't had enough wine

toccatanfudge · 21/04/2010 22:03

Brolly - I don't know - haven't heard from her since that one text after she came out of surgery. I'm guessing she'll probably update tomorrow once she's feeling marginally more human.

Alambil · 21/04/2010 22:03

Jamie - go to paypal, click send money - put my address in ( freedom 6 6 0 6 @ hotmail . com with no gaps) and make sure it is a "personal / gift" option... then send

I think!

Jamieandhismagictorch · 21/04/2010 22:04

thanks . Will do it tomorrow as DH is asleep and I don't know his password.

Alambil · 21/04/2010 22:04

no worries, wubbly... we got there in the end

BosomsByTheSea · 21/04/2010 22:07

Must sign out now and go to bed. I remember the horrible pain from the gas they 'inflate' you with during the op. I agree peppermint oil is a good idea - also peppermint tea.

Here's hoping Charlotte has a peaceful night and plenty of morphine. I do hope she is no longer in such pain.

Brollyflower · 21/04/2010 22:08

Don't forget the beginning bit... the first night (Sunday) NHS direct referred her to the out of hours GP the first evening and then the out of hours GP initially refused to come out and see her at home where she was alone with 2 small children . After badgering them she did get seen and then the following mornin (Mon) got her HCG result from her GP who referred her to EPAU for the day after (tues) assuming she was having a standerd miscarriage despite the now easing pain. MNetters persuaded her to go to A&E that day (Mon) from where she was admitted to gynae ward and then eventually sent home without a scan, as they said she was only 5 weeks due to the HCG reading and therefore no point in scanning. On Tues she was eventually persuaded by MNetters to ring the ward as she was still in pain and feeling faint and sick and now with shoulder pain. Then her sister and mum took her back to hosp who still refused to scan her but admitted her. Finally today they did 2 scans after keeping her in since yesterday and discovered EP. Cue emergency surgery.

At various points HCPs at the hosp claimd they had considered and ruled out an EP .

toccatanfudge · 21/04/2010 22:09

SC has just updated her FB....

Out of surgery. It went well but didn't have the outcome i would have liked. Thanks for all the kind messages. Phone batt is low so might not be able to update so much. Gonna get me some morphine and go to sleep. X

Have sent - let me know you've got it!

Have followed this whole thread with a mixture of horror and admiration. Just hope that spooky recovers well.

re a campaign, i thought at the time the miscarriage campaign started that maybe something should be mentioned about eps as well, but didn't want to push it as it was a bit me me me. but maybe we should ask about that now?

the thing about eps, and i don't want to start a pain war here but i feel it's worth pointing out, that they are a miscarriage (because you do painfully miscarry the womb lining etc with all that attendant horror) and of course you lose your baby (or in actual fact agree to the termination of your baby ) but in addition they immediately threaten your life and your continuing fertility in quite a demonstrable way, and they later require a physical recovery (metho can mean months of bloods, laps weeks of pain and beyond) that is rather tougher going than the shared miscarriage element. and one woman can have repeat eps, indeed your odds of having a second ep go to one in ten if you've had one before. and so on and so on...

so it would sit well with a miscarriage campaign, i think, although it is more life threatening and invasive as a condition.

(and please don't get me started on the people who helpfully point out that 'at least you're still alive...' imagine saying that to a woman having a miscarriage, which in effect you are.)

Alambil · 21/04/2010 22:16

got it BIWI

Cazabelle · 21/04/2010 22:17

AitchTwoZone · 21/04/2010 22:19

Milliways · 21/04/2010 22:19

Have been following this thread. Praying for you SC.

Great idea about a campaign, & well done Lewis!

aleene · 21/04/2010 22:19

Oh SC, hope you are getting a good sleep and can feel the MN vibes.

(LF - small amount sent through paypal.)

Brollyflower · 21/04/2010 22:20

Really Aitch? "At least you're alive" . People never cease to amaze me. Please don't tell me it was a health professional that said that.

Northernlurker · 21/04/2010 22:23

Aitch - I think it does sit well with the MC campaign. The theme is similar in that it involves an aspect of women's health which the medical profession are not always managing in the optimum manner. With both EP and MC I think there is a temptation to say 'oh well it's all over now so move on' - like you've had a tooth out and it's nasty but finished. From everything I've read on here (having been lucky enough to never suffer either) that's very, very far from the truth. I do think we need to be realistic about what can be achieved because you're never going to arrive at a situation where people aren't misdiagnosed but like I said yesterday the NHS should NEVER be sending people home in a state of ignorance about their condition and feeling they can't go back. Better informed women and fully informed medics is not an unachievable goal.

Cadelaide · 21/04/2010 22:24

Poor, poor you Charlotte.

I'll be sending you good vibes for a speedy recovery.

ADuckCalledBill · 21/04/2010 22:25
