Bloody hell thank goodness for mumsnet....have been following this since spooky first posted and cannot believe how it escalated and how spookys symptoms changed but only the fellow mumsnetters took her seriously-not her GP or the hospital....am very for her and that something this serious could have gone undiagnosed if it wasn't for the support spooky received on here. Am sending lots of positive thoughts to Spooky (don't do the God thing!) and am thinking about her and hoping all goes okay and I am just grateful she posted in the first place and got amazing support and advice from the mn contingent...I will do anything I can to support a campaign to raise awareness of EP xx

ClaireDeLoon · 21/04/2010 14:37

Just scanned through the thread and am and at her treatment (or lack of) at the hospital, to not scan her when they admitted they were suspecting eptopic is appalling, yes 5 weeks is too early for a heartbeat but surely it's about seeing where the sac is?

Charlotte just wanted to say I hope you're feeling OK now and getting proper pain relief. And I'm very sorry you're going through such an awful experience, am thinking of you.

BosomsByTheSea · 21/04/2010 14:47

So pleased she is getting the care she needs now.

Well done to Aitch and all those others who were here to advise and support SC.

I would also support a campaign.

Alambil · 21/04/2010 14:48

on the school run - will update if and when

BlackYellowRed · 21/04/2010 15:00

Gosh. I went to A&E with similar symptoms a few months ago and first thing they did was rule out ectopic pregnancy and appendicitis.

Hope she's ok.

flamingtoaster · 21/04/2010 15:02

Have been following this thread. Thoughts and prayers are with you spookycharlotte121.

chimchar · 21/04/2010 15:03

thanks for the update girls.

charlotte...sorry you're going through this, but glad that finally a diagnosis seems close.

a big huge clap for the very clever mners on here who were so knew what they were talking about (sadly for the wrong reasons). but...good on you girls.

hope you are feeling more comfortable soon charlotte. x

CMOTdibbler · 21/04/2010 15:05

Spooky - will be holding you in my thoughts this afternoon.

Am so, so, horrified to think what might have happened here if Spooky hadn't been on here

It makes me want to start a thread with a big 'oi, journos - I know you're out there, so heres a real story about MN' to get publicity about EP out there

cheesebaby · 21/04/2010 15:06

Just come back to this - sorry to see it seems like the wise ones on here were right, and that it is an EP.

I hope I didn't confuse Spooky earlier on blathering on about fibroids.

I also agree that this should prob be a campaign - when I went in to my GP with pain in early preg (~6 weeks), I had to push for a referral to the epu. When I got there, however, I was immediately scanned. They found a pregnancy (my DD) in my uterus, and another mass somewhere near my ovary. This turned out to be a (somewhat atypical) fibroid, however I was monitored increadibly closely, as they were concerned about the - albeit remote - possibility of a twin preg with one being ectopic.

So... what I'm trying to say is; some hospitals obviously know how to deal properly with these situations, and to take the most cautious route - why on earth was Spooky sent home with no scan??! It beggars belief.

dorothybunny · 21/04/2010 15:07

Have been following this thread since yesterday and can't believe the debacle the Dr's have made in diagnosing (or not!) SC's condition. Surely this must be classic medical school stuff? I thank God that the Dr's were more switched on at my local hospital when they quickly diagnosed my ectopic 6 yrs ago. Best wishes to you Spooky Charlotte. Hope you get back on track soon. Thank goodness for these threads - they really can be life savers. Good job everyone!

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 21/04/2010 15:16

Just checking back in - Spooky, so glad they are finally taking things seriously, and my thoughts are with you. We are here for hand holding/ranting etc when the time comes.

Thank goodness for MN , and by the sound of it, a mum and sis just as assertive!

AuntieMaggie · 21/04/2010 15:19

Thinking of you Spooky Charlotte x

Jackbauer · 21/04/2010 15:30

MrsMills · 21/04/2010 15:44

Charlotte has just let a message on Fb,

'Oh god! They are prepping theatre. Slightly pooing my pants. It will be ok tho im sure'

She's being soooo brave

PrivetDancer · 21/04/2010 15:49

well at least she'll know she wasn't just being a nuisance now!
hope all goes well, spooky, and you are home again soon.

MmeLindt · 21/04/2010 15:50

Thinking of you, Charlotte. Sorry that it turned out to be a EP after all, but so glad that the wonderful women of MN nagged encouraged you to demand the scan.

To Charlotte's mum and sister: Well done, give them doctors hell from us too please.

Brollyflower · 21/04/2010 15:52

So this is an emergency op then? They're not waiting to starve her? Somehow it doesn't come as a surprise does it. Poor thing. I hope she's not too scared and it's done soon. Wish I could send her a card or some cake.

ShowOfHands · 21/04/2010 15:53

The theatre bit, though it sounds ridiculously crass, is the easy bit and may help her process it a little more. Hopefully, she'll feel like somebody is taking charge and taking her seriously. And diagnosis and treatment are what she needed all along. I hope that makes sense.

Even though I was scanned and a gestational sac found in my uterus, they still monitored closely as- and I didn't realise this at all- the sac being in the uterus doesn't mean it isn't ectopic. I'm not too clear on the medical explanation but they said a sac can just develop there as expected but the actual pregnancy can be elsewhere. I thank God I had a hospital that seemed to have heard of ectopic pregnancies and took the time to rule it out definitively.

poor Charlotte, incredible how much the NHS varies, up here in Liverpool the AN care was brilliant, both GP and hospital were v. much on the ball when I had a suspected ep with less symptoms than Charlotte.

Thank god Aitch and other ladies were here who spotted what the medics didn't

TheInvisibleManDidIt · 21/04/2010 16:01
