Glad she's geting that scan, awful it took so long but not at all surprised for bristol. never hear anything good about serviecs there (everything Riven posts, poor bloke with LD in papers today who lived with a corpse for a decade)

Sooooooo glad we didn't take the option to move there when it presented.

SC.

LilRedWG · 21/04/2010 12:26

Thank God she's finally had her scan. I hope she is okay.

JustAnotherManicMummy · 21/04/2010 12:26

Bloody hell if they still weren't suspicious of it being ectopic after all those other symptoms that's appalling!

Hopefully there'll be some progress now. Am so that it's taken 2 days, nearly 600 posts, two trips to hospital, numerous consultations with doctors and the intervention of the OP's mother and sister to get a bloody scan!

AitchTwoZone · 21/04/2010 12:26

oh dear, the poor love.

toccatanfudge · 21/04/2010 12:26

Clarissimo - I saw that about the man with LD and that corpse. Felt so sorry for the poor man, was pleased to see that no attempt was made to prosecute him though

Clarissimo · 21/04/2010 12:26

X posts Toc

thank goodness for MN

Katz · 21/04/2010 12:26

its crazy that a group of mums over the internet without seeing her could diagnose EP but a doctor stood looking at her wouldn't even consider the idea

Pikelit · 21/04/2010 12:32

What Katz said. Thankfully, there was that group of mums who could persevere and give SC the strength to insist on a scan. Well done to you, this could turn out to be life saving intervention.

toccatanfudge · 21/04/2010 12:42

think even if it does turn out to be something less serious than an EP she is relieved that there is something not right and reassured she's not being a nuiscane - low selfesteem/self belief can be a real fucker

hazeyjane · 21/04/2010 12:54

Glad that sc finally got a scan. Sorry to hear it may be ectopic, I hope she is feeling better for having some stronger painkillers.

I know it seems odd, but often people who have had something like an ectopic or molar pregnancy, do know more about the conditions than some medical staff.

I think the very fact that symptoms can vary so much, and there can be different sorts of ep and mp, means that it would be difficult for all medical staff to receive the necessary training. Which is why some sort of central hospital/s that are specialised in ectopics may be a good idea. Sorry to bang on about it! But the cure rate for molar pregnancies is 100% even if they go on to become cancerous - and I think this is because patients are so closely monitered, and staff are so well versed on all the different symptoms, effects etc, as soon as the drs at my local hospital had a vague notion that I had a mp, they were able to contact Charing X (the specialist centre for South of England), who took control of my care and advised the drs at every turn. This all happened to me 7 years ago, and I am still able to phone the people at Charing X, if I have any concerns, and they have ensured that I received extra scans in subsequent pregnancies-it is an amazing system, probably costs a fortune - but considering the numbers and seriousness of ectopic pregnancies, surely something that should be considered.

Sorry if that went on a bit, but a focused campaign on something like this does seem like a good idea.

giraffesCANdriveAcar · 21/04/2010 12:56

Thinking of charlotte.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 21/04/2010 13:03

Poor Charlotte but thank goodness she has now been scanned and something is happening finally. It is quite chilling to think of what might have happened without her having access to MN and I think a campaign is an absolutely brilliant idea.

How glad am I that I've moved and am not having to deal with the Bristol hospitals anymore, plus that my Mum moved close to us and doesn't either. My Dad is still there though.

MiniMarmite · 21/04/2010 13:05

Glad SC is finally getting that scan - only 2.5 days later than it should have been , hope she is ok, poor love.

I like your list of starting points for the proposed campaign MmeL

scratchmyback · 21/04/2010 13:08

I can't believe they have only just taken poor Charlotte seriously enough to discover that some of her symptoms are EP. If it does turn out to be that (and I really hope it doesn't) that is disgusting.

I am glad that at last they are taking care of Charlotte and hope she is ok.

toccatanfudge · 21/04/2010 13:17

bless her - just sent me a message on FB to say that they are saying ectopic now, have asked her if she's eaten recently, so she's guessing that they're considering surgery. Sounds pretty scared........and made worse by the fact that she doesn't want her family to know if it is that because of it being her ex........

Am going out in a while - but ahve told her that I'll still have my phone with me - so if she updates me while I'm out I'll update around 6pm (presuming she hasn't managed to post on here herself or on FB).

mamsnet · 21/04/2010 13:18

I stand in awe of all you ladies who know so much about this, (sadly for all the wrong reasons in many cases) and I would actively encourage you to start an information campaign.

I, for one, feel I have learned a lot.

Best wishes to OP!

toccatanfudge · 21/04/2010 13:18

this sort of thread is "MN as it used to be"........

Mongolia · 21/04/2010 13:23

Gosh, I really don't get it, a woman shows in hospital showing all the signs of an ectopic pregnancy and they still take almost a day to scan her???

Why do the best course of action for ectopic pregnancies is not to act until a falopian tube has bursted? IMO it is unreasonable to tell the woman to wait and see, as the effects may be unretrievable or fatal.

Wonder if this might be Mumsnet's next campaign...

Bicnod · 21/04/2010 13:25

So glad to read that OP is now being taken seriously - thinking of you Charlotte.

Thank god for MN and all who sail in her.

Conundrumish · 21/04/2010 13:28

Bloody hell. Let's hope this one does make the Daily Mail.

maduggar · 21/04/2010 13:28

Oh I am so glad they are finally taking her seriously! What a crock of shit though, thats its taken thsi long and this amount of demanding to get it

MN can be such a fab community to be a part of. Well done ladies.

PatsyStone · 21/04/2010 13:30

Been following this since yesterday, unbelievable

I hope Spookycharlotte gets the care she's needed now, and recovers soon.

Best wishes.

TheCrackFox · 21/04/2010 13:32

Just read the entire thread.

Spooky I am keeping my fingers crossed for you and well done for standing up for yourself. I hope you feel better soon.

It is shocking about the general lack of knowledge within the medical community regarding Eptopic pregnancies. I reckon this thread, alone, will save lives in the future. I was quite ignorant about some of the symptoms.

flier · 21/04/2010 13:33

Thank goodness she went back in yesterday. Unbelievable that it has taken so long to get to where she is now with the docs. Thinking of you Charlotte.

ItsAllaBitNoisy · 21/04/2010 13:33

Charlotte first contacted the NHS Sunday night/Monday morning. It's now Wednesday afternoon and she has finally been diagnosed...

I'm glad that's not my local hospital.

Best wishes to Charlotte.
