Just seen this - it is terrible how Charlotte is bening treated.

I really hope they sort things out for her soon.

toccatanfudge · 21/04/2010 10:50

just got back from the Drs and texted her.

She's replied to say she's got a lovely nurse who seems to be taking her seriously and someone mentioned a scan earlier.

toccatanfudge · 21/04/2010 10:54

oh and slightly more recent update (as my BF rang me just after SC texted me) from FB

"Not sure what is happening. Noone seems to know anything. They saying they might send me for a scan but it never happens. They have given me some strong pain killers but im still a bit uncomfortable. Hopefully they will know more when they get my clones back."

Brollyflower · 21/04/2010 10:54

I'm so glad someone is caring for her as a person at last. Do tell her how many people are thinking of her.

Brollyflower · 21/04/2010 10:55

clones?

toccatanfudge · 21/04/2010 10:56

haven't got a clue - just c&p from her facebook lol

AitchTwoZone · 21/04/2010 10:56

yes, definitely tell her that, toc. ep or not, miscarriage or not, pregnant or not, whatever it is she has our full support, she is IMPORTANT and valued and we are here for her in the coming days.

JodieO · 21/04/2010 10:57

Clones will be bloods, predictive text can do that.

AitchTwoZone · 21/04/2010 10:57

no idea about clones. they should have been in a position to do some more bloods today, it's two days since her last.

AitchTwoZone · 21/04/2010 10:58

oh right, lol. i am always surprised that nun is a more popular word than mum in predictive text.

bluecardi · 21/04/2010 10:58

Contact the local mp (what area is spooky in?)- seeing it's the election. Why isn't she getting the diagnosis & treatment needed.

toccatanfudge · 21/04/2010 11:01

yay - some good news at last - she's just this minute sent me a text to say that she is apparently having a scan now dr coming to see her in a bit - and she says thanks for all the support

AitchTwoZone · 21/04/2010 11:02

well actually imo what they're doing now is fair enough, tbh. so long as she's in hospital and being monitored, nothing too bad should happen. it was when they were sending her home to her children while in chronic pain and no diagnosis that i was .

they'll probably wait for bloods and then scan. or if, for example, her bloods are well down they might take the view that it is either a misc or a self-resolving ep, and do nothing other than continue to do bloods, but i would still prefer to have a scan myself to check for internal bleeds. just so you'd know if you were likelier to have another ep because of the now-damaged tube.

toccatanfudge · 21/04/2010 11:03

ahh thanks for the clones clarification - been a while since I had a phone with predictive text had forgotten some of the stuff it comes up with

JustAnotherManicMummy · 21/04/2010 11:23

That's good news. Thanks for the updates toccata

Brollyflower · 21/04/2010 11:24

Yes, I agree Aitch. Drs aren't gods (phew!), they do make mistakes and not all conditions/diagnoses are straightforward. All of that is excusable, provided mistakes are infrequent and swiftly rectified. What is inexcusable is sending someone home alone in lots of pain with no diagnosis and a still potentially life-threatening set of symptoms (especially when this can be readily established using google!). Particularly when it's several drs on several occasions. And even worse when the patient goes home feeling like a nuisance and not wanting to bother anyone again.

I really hope they figure out what's wrong soon and are able to do something to help.

I think it's important to remember that EP is sometimes hard to diagnose even with a scan - the stories here tell us that. The issues (I think) is that so many medical professionals are waiting for possible EP to be definately indicated by symptoms rather than proceeding on the basis that an unwell patient with pain in early pregnancy is an EP till proved otherwise and therefore they should follow a pathway characterised by active monitoring and adopt a treatment plan that will enable women who do become acutely unwell to be treated with despatch.

EXACTLY

This should be our basis for a campaign.

  1. Patients with pain in early pregnancy to be treated as possible EP with active monitoring.
  1. Patients who are being monitored should be fasttracked through A&E if their condition worsened
  1. Training for all medical staff, both in GP surgeries and in hospitals on the dangers of EP
  1. Raise awareness in the general public. Does anyone know if there is a warning printed on the pregnancy tests about the dangers of EP? That would be a good start.

Someone said there were about 11 deaths a year from EP, was that number confirmed? That is a lot, considering that with early diagnosis and treatment it is avoidable. (which to be fair the NHS does provide in most cases)

AitchTwoZone · 21/04/2010 11:44

lol at was that number confirmed? you think i'm making it up?

MmeLindt · 21/04/2010 11:51

No, Aitch. You wrote:

well, in a way it's a good story as the figure is quite low. 11, 12, 13, that sort of number in england and wales.

I thought that you meant you were not sure of the figures, but reading it back it is obvious that you meant on average.

addictedisinthesecondtrimester · 21/04/2010 11:52

thank goodnes she is actually getting scanned at last!!

i am shocked at the treatment she has recieved, and will totally be behind the campain.

spooky, i hope you get some answers soon and hope you start to feel more comfortable.

and btw YOU ARE NOT A NUSANCE. and you are most certantly NOT in the way

OmicronPersei8 · 21/04/2010 11:59

Glad to hear that SC's being seen and hopefully scanned now. That initial wait in hospital before they'll consider giving stronger painkillers and seem to be waiting themselves to see what's wrong can be very stressful (and painful). Once you've made the decision to go in, things are usually pretty bad and the last thing you want is a long wait while in pain etc.

I hope SC gets all the treatment and care she needs now.

AitchTwoZone · 21/04/2010 12:01

sure, i was only joking, mmel. yes it's that sort of number year on year, not going up, not going down. but i don't know the figs for up here and wales etc.

JustMooching · 21/04/2010 12:06

Glad to hear SC is finally (!!!!!!!!!!) getting a scan.

blinks · 21/04/2010 12:11

glad to hear she's getting somewhere in finding out what's going on.

toccatanfudge · 21/04/2010 12:22

just had a text from SC

"just had internal scan which picked something up which has made them suspicious of it being ectopic. I think they are going to send the results straight to the dr to look at. "

(and then asked me to pass on the messsage to you lot)
