Help! I'm decorating our bedroom. I have crown mellow sage on one wall so far. It's a very small room, but bright and sunny. I was thinking painting it a darkish, but calming colour, would make it feel all cosy and womb-like (except not red!), but it's looking fairly dark on the window wall I've painted it on! I could get a lighter colour for the two long walls, but the lighter colour that crown does that goes with mellow sage, is very, very pale and I don't want it that pale.

Do you think it'll stop it looking too dark if we have cream/natural curtains (our bed is cream metal framed), cream bedding, cream door and cream bookshelves (going to be floor-ish to ceiling)? I was going to put up a few pictures too - they could be in pale frames as well.

I was going to have taupe lampshades.

DidEinsteinsMum · 19/02/2010 14:12

Ime the window wall can be one of the darker walls in the room. I had the window wall and one other a dark coffee, and the other two walls a lighter coffee type colour. The window wall always looked a bit darker then the other walls.

I have painted my room this colour and it looks about 3 shades darker on a dull day.

Can you get a mid tone made up or is that too expensive. Cream curtains, bedding etc will lift the colour a long way and will probably lighten it to the point you were looking for. Also remember the colour looks darker when wet. it might lighten a bit in the drying. I had the omg its too dark moment with the colour i chose.

oh. crap.

Play dates Mum came to pick her up. We were chatting about something that was linked to her Ex (a man for some reason that I really dislike. but couldn't say why, He keeps catching up with me to walk to school, offering lifts and honing in at school events.....)

So play dates Mum says....you'd be better off asking ExH (her) about that, and I said with FAR too much feeling...'No, you're alright I won't bother thanks...'

Oh bummer. Bum Bum Bum....... I never put my foot in my mouth and now I jump in with both size 7's......

ShowOfHands · 19/02/2010 14:19

Is it dry? They do change colour as they dry.

That, imho, is quite a cold colour. But with the right accessories you could warm it up a bit. Taupe is good because it has some brown (mmm chocolate) in it which is warmer than mellow sage which is too grey (steel, rain etc) but will complement it.

I don't think that lightning it with lots of cream will achieve the desired effect alone. Chuck in some stuff to warm it too like the taupe lampshades, maybe a chocolatey throw on the bed.

hellsbelles · 19/02/2010 14:23

wobble - so tricky to tell from the pic. It looks lovely on the wall they ahve it painted on but the actual sample of the colour does look quite dark. Sorry - I'm no help.

Dem - so only bad quality choc! It's the best kind - let's be honest!

Mitts - enjoy the role play

MitsubishiWarrioress · 19/02/2010 14:40

I think that sounds fine to me Wobble, especially as it is a sunny room. And yes to pale light accessories. Maybe with a tiny bit of a darker shade in a cushion or the pictures to make it 'richer'. I rarely find colours 'cooling'. Also could you use texture in materials to add a little something.

I am so sorry about DH SoH.... Poor men. Sometimes society is severely left wanting. The force needs good people like your DH and I hope he finds his place and makes his mark, he sounds like a good man. I like good men.

Not interested in your BiL though, however lovely. I am men phobic at the moment.

I will check which bus I am likely to be catching to Manchester tomorrow when the DC's have gone Dem.

Hello all,

Sorry today was rather more hectic then I'd planned so only just been able to log in to say hi

Shiney - where is this NormasNorks, how dare she have a name so similar to mine

FiveGoMadInDorset · 19/02/2010 16:00

Hello all, having a great day. Lovely walk, friend has turned up, eating brownies and drinking wine and off out to pub this evening.

Update on BIL, he has been sectioned after he was found trying to gas himself (in a car with catakytic converter which means it won't work). FIL is going to have to pay the back rent on their house but after that he has yold SIL that she is on her own and that there are govt agencies out there to help her. The worst thing is is that he set up a bogus company and has yet again conned people out of thousands (one man has given him £6k and that is onloy one we knoe about) but because he is a bankcrupt he can't be a director so he put his step son down as the company director who is only 22 and very socially backward, so he is being taken to court and FIl will have to pay for a solicitor for that.

MrsWobbleTheWaitress · 19/02/2010 16:10

The colour on the website bears irritatingly little resemblance to the real colour, which is much greener. I've decided to go for it with it all being that colour. Cream curtains. Taupe lamps and lampshads. Cream woodwork. Maybe a taupe bedspread...and there's a really nice taupe ottoman in Dunelm I might get when I get the pin for my card through! Didn't have enough cash today. I've got a burnished brass curtain pole to go with the bedknobs. Just got to save enough for the carpet next! (oh, and build the shelves....eek!)

MitsubishiWarrioress · 19/02/2010 16:11

Well, the bus leaves the village and goes through to the central coach station, but as I don't know Manchester at all it will be like placing a kangaroo in the Arctic...

Might be texting you frantically!!

NormaSknockers · 19/02/2010 16:18

How is everyone? Have I missed much?

doubleinstructions · 19/02/2010 16:56

Afternoon everyone, quick glances to catch up.
Five - your BIL sounds horrible!
Not much to report, got out for a walk finally, only 2k but great for clearing the head before the cabin fever took hold.
Met lovely friends for breakfast and gossiped so much only picked at my full Irish.
Salmon and veg for dinner.

NormaSknockers · 19/02/2010 17:03

Anyone else getting a 9 appear under every message?

Hells - the stew sounds lovely, I have a recipe for a beef stew with chocolate but never been brave enough to attempt it.

hellsbelles · 19/02/2010 17:08

Fanny- what a mess. I'm assuming his half hearted 'gassing' attempt was to gain sympathy rather than actually kill himself?

No heating where we are tonight! The oil has run out (though being delivered). What with mice and cold I'm not in a good mood (but trying to pretend)

Good lord - we city dwellers have it easy - I didn't realise.

Mitts - Dem is right - she probably hates him too! Try not to worry too much. I know it's easy to replay stuff again and again and imagine it's far worse than it really is. Maybe she didn't even notice the way you said it.

NormaSknockers · 19/02/2010 17:11

Fanny your BIL sounds an utter delight. Sorry to hear about all that

DidEinsteinsMum · 19/02/2010 17:14

Mitts you might be on your own as i have No idea where the central bus station is... All i know is a i get off train in picadilly, jump on the trams and get off at gmex for the mosi, or walk down to piccadily gardens for the shops i use (primark for ds' trouser, and up the road (noideawhatname) to get up to the fabric shop.

I prefer to go up to the peaks to do most bits and generally avoid manchester at all costs.

Might google and see what can come with... but do not rely on me for directions. you'll end up in southampton or somewhere equally daft.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 19/02/2010 17:15

Hells - hope you are not too cold. When is your oil being delivered.

DidEinsteinsMum · 19/02/2010 17:15

bloody hell five - how on earth did he get away with putting his step son's name on the paperwork. Surely he would have had to sign something for it to be binding. i am glad to live in an innocent world where this sort of thing is beyond my comprehension.

OP posts:
DidEinsteinsMum · 19/02/2010 17:17

is the oil being delivered soon? It must be truely bitter. sending warming thoughts to you

Its it too synical to say that maybe the half arse suicide attempt was so that he could claim mental incompetance in a court?
