Hi everyone - can I join?

I've seen these threads for ages but been too scared to join in

I'd like to lose about half a stone, ora stone ideally. I'm 5'3 and would like to weigh 8 stone, i think i'm lurking around the 9 stone mark at the moment. The battery on my scales has died, which reminds me... must buy a new one to chart my failure progress!

I've recently lost my job and so I'm now at home most days while looking for other work/trying to go freelance, meaning my routine of walking four miles a day and having work to distract me from food has gone. Now I have no distractions and a kitchen-load of food to tempt myself with.

So I need some discipline back again, and think this thread could help me. I'm also hoping to start running again, when the snow and ice clears , to get me out of the house in the morning to start my day.

So hi everyone!

TrillianAstra · 10/01/2010 13:04

Hi Cheese.

Pnce you've got over the loss of orutine being at home could be a good thing. You don't have to make a packed lunch or be dependent on sandwich shops - you have your whole fridge/cupboards kitchen and so can choose the best combination of healthiness/tastiness/what you feel like at the time you want ot eat. Also you don't have to stick to set tiems to eat whether you're hungry or not, you can wait until you actually feel hunger rather than thinking 'I 'd better eat it now or else I won't get the chance for another 3 hours'.

VinegarTits · 10/01/2010 13:18

Hi Trillian

You make some very good points! Although I find it hard cooking one portion, instead of meal-sized dinners for DP and I. For eg on Friday I had loads of veg and thought I'd do a stir fry for my lunch, so had cabbage carrots brocolli onion garlic and chilli then I added egg noodles... and the end result was absolutely massive. But I still ate it all as I didnt want to waste it! And then I had a big, normal dinner with DP later. I think portion control is a downfall of mine too.

But yes hopefully the new routine (or lack of) will be a good thing.

And sandwich sarnies etc are ridiculous, both in calories and in price! I have spent a grand total of £1.50 since last weekend, so it's also helping with the purse strings!

Any ideas on nice healthy lunches, that you can cook at home? I love pasta but tend to eat it in evenings quite a lot and can't have it twice in one day. Maybe things like bean and rice salads, that kind of thing?

CheeeseOnToast · 10/01/2010 13:23

And so far today I've had two cups of tea, no sugar, with two slices of toast with peanut butter. So not exactly a great start to the day! (only got up at 12...oops )

VinegarTits · 10/01/2010 13:26

Shiney you do get some nobbers on there, she can set up her own room to play with her friends and that would avoid the swears coming on, but generally, if someone is being abusive or swearing they get kicked off it pretty quickly

VinegarTits · 10/01/2010 13:27

Cheese we have a recipe thread somewhere (trills will know where it is?) you might find some ideas for lunches, there are some nice soup recipes on it

I posted on the other thread not realising a new one had started.

I am bella - need to lose a stone now rather than the 10lb before xmas. Although I have since new years day lost 1.5lb.

I have copied and pasted my post.

Have been into town with DH and DS2. Bought myself a gorgeous long flowing grey cardigan with longer bits at the sides and a tunic top which looked nice with the only decent pair of skinny jeans I had on which were tucked into my long boots - I felt quite glam for once blush. I could also wear it over leggings.

On the way back to the car, DH and DS2 stopped at the Hogg Roast shop which do the most amazing hot sarnies. DS2 had roast lamb with stuffing, mint sauce and gravy. DH had a plate of roast potatoes and gravy. I didn't have anything. Have just made myself some lovely scrambled eggs on ww toast.

Brilliant DEM smile

Oooh Trills, a pet.... DS2 would love one, but I would end up looking after it so it is a no no.

Goes off to read the thread.

VinegarTits · 10/01/2010 13:36

what room you in shiney? i am in UK 5

VinegarTits · 10/01/2010 13:40

Bella you are so good for resisting those hot sandwiches, its making me hungry just thinking about them

jaquelinehyde · 10/01/2010 13:40

Afternooooon one and all. My laptop appears to be having a revival and is working fine. I'm hoping it was just a blip and that I can get my Uni stuff done over the next few weeks and then worry about it.

I looooooove isketch, we should have a competition night, various games and the winner gets sent a piece of fruit or veg from every other player. Great fun and a healthy boost to any diet

I am still not on any proper diet as we are still snowed in, I am seriously eating the crappiest food going. Tesco have cancelled my delivery and refunded my money, and won't take any other orders for the area. We have about 10inches of lying snow at the moment and more expected today. The bloody kids are driving me mad!!!

Also the front of my house is filthy as a snow plough has just flown up our road at stupid speeds and covered my house from top to bottom in sludge! I'm furious, next door has had a window cracked with the force of the slufge hitting it! Bloody listed buildings as well, you would think more care would be taken!!

bellavita · 10/01/2010 13:41

Vinny - they are bloody gorgeous and I could have so eaten the hot roast pork one with stuffing, apple sauce, gravy and crackling

jaquelinehyde · 10/01/2010 13:43

Oh and sadly my weight has piled back on so quickly since I stopped dieting that, my back pain has started up and I am unable to stand for more than a few mins at a time or walk further than 100meters without collapsing. the things we do to ourselves

Bella well done on lunch that's really impressive.

I want my bloody Tesco delivery!!!!!!

VinegarTits · 10/01/2010 13:46

right thats it, im off to peel some spuds and do myself a little roast dinner

bellavita · 10/01/2010 13:51

I said to DH, so if you are having roasties at lunchtime you won't want them tonight - we can have mash instead (my fave) but he has insisted on roasties. We are having roast beef, roasties, mashed swede, carrots, brocs and cabbage with loads of lovely gravy.

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 10/01/2010 13:52

Oh jaq that's carp. Back ache is the worst. and yes i would expect a snow plough to go at a reasonable speed when working in close proximity to houses but doubt it would have crossed their minds that the house is listed.

CheeeseOnToast · 10/01/2010 13:53

oooh Vinny roast dinner... i think i'll do the same. Have some chicken breasts in the freezer, will do with loads of veg i think. yuummm.

Is there a lower cal way to do a roast? I think I'll grill the chicken and steam the veg, but the best bit is roast potatoes... but i tend to use loads of oil - is there a better way thats still reasonably tasty but not as bad?

bellavita · 10/01/2010 13:55

Ooh no jaq for your back.

CheeeseOnToast · 10/01/2010 13:59

sorry to hear about your back jaq - back pain is the worst. hot water bottle might help a teeny bit?
