'flipping' organs!!

chelseamorning · 01/01/2010 19:29

Now you're probably thinking I'm off my rocker here but bear with me!

My DS is 3. Since I gave birth, I sometimes get a weird sensation in my chest/stomach which when I bend right over. The only way to describe it is that it feels like an organ or something is 'flipping'. It takes my breath away and I have to stand up carefully. Then I feel it 'flip' back into place. Usually there are no other after effects. Sometimes it leaves me a tiny bit tender in the area for a day or so.

Please, is there anyone else who has this sensation???!!!

Been on this path for a while now finally found some drs and DOs with guidance. Currently looking into POTS (can be looked at as a set of symptoms that came on due to injury, etc many reasons) like issues aka these symptoms are nerve related and/or posture/structure related but 100% nerves invcolved even though it feels like muscles and organs moving. Just started working with a neuro musc. Osteopath and a sports med dr who enlightened me and agrees it’s nerve based as in CNS, not your standard ouch nerve pain, and that’s it’s more internal physical distress pain. Also POTS is basically anpoatural intolerance that affects your nerves and or blood flow etc. continueing treatment with the osteopath and about to start acupuncture. These may be “nerve knots”. Unless you get an MRNeurography (mri if your nerves) no normal radiology will show a complete picture of your nerves location and function. Will keep all posted. I advise you talk to an OMM DO, google it.

I too have had this happen a few times over last few years. (I am 56) It has happened again a few weeks ago when sitting down and leaning over to put shoe on and then last week while doing Pilates (just started these classes) came on left side whilst standing and bending over into a stretch. Has always previously been on the left side just under the ribs but has recently been tender on the right (same place) but not the same sharp twist that comes on the left. Hoping someone gets some answers soon.

I have had this for a very long time. Can't remember when it started.
Sometimes it really scares me.
I am 64, have always been of normal weight, have 4 kids and can't explain it.
On occasion I'll sit on the bed, put my knee up quickly and WOW. What is that? Takes my breath away. I stand up slowly and wait for it to slide back, or whatever it does. Feels like a muscle or organ gets tangled.
What a weird feeling. Sometimes happens if I put knee into chest.
Is there a name for this? Should i bring it up at my physical?

Birdwatcher60 · 22/12/2018 18:59

I'm 60 years fairly fit but have flabby stomach due to 3 children and could stand to lose 25 lbs. 😕
In 2008 I had a Hysterectomy (tah) (from navel down slice) including removal of appendix, then later gallbladder removal, and then last surgery done in 2010 for partial removal of left kidney because of a cancerous tumor which was found by catscan when trying to diagnose my gallbladder pain, etc. I'm so thankful I'm alive!! 😊❤️
So now, and these recent years, when I bend over- whatever it is would roll, get stuck and give me the panicked feeling of "hurry and do something quick!"
I have to stand up and raise my arms high and twist my torso some until it goes back in place. I can even see it when I raise my shirt and see it move around til it goes back in place. LEFT SIDE only. It's frustrating and a bit scary!
I was told that my stomach muscles split on my last pregnancy during my last trimester. I carried all my 8 lb plus babies out front.
Im now wondering if it is as mentioned above...fat getting through muscles. Although it feels like organs or my stomach or intestines are twisting and getting stuck.
I see that a lot of us has similar past issues.
I definitely feel I hardly have stomach muscle strength. I used to run and work out with Jillian Michael video's before 2008. But never could get that core strength back. I am afraid to do a sit up now! If I did I would be scared whatever it is would get stuck permanently!
My problem has gotten worse lately because I gained 10 lbs recently, etc.
So this is all food for thought.
I live on a farm going into winter with 3 grown sons and hubby there for me. They can lift that bale of hay or troubled baby calf from now on for me. I've proved myself enough times for many years...lol !
But I plan to do a walking regime in spring or sooner and lose at least part of the excess stomach fat.
Wish you all the best! Glad I finally found this thread!

Ive been experiencing the same thing left hand side when I bend over. Got to straighten for it to be back in place. About 4 weeks ago it happened and it didn't go in. Then since then feel like a little pressure. I do get lots of wind and bloating.

Lizjoseph65 · 03/01/2019 16:51

**look up the muscle called the
psoas muscle. This happens to me also and I am thinking this is the cause of everyone's problem with this. Thanks

Dollyjean · 08/01/2019 22:58

I have had something similar. When I bend over while in a sitting position sometimes I feel something shift only on my right side. It causes a strange feeling and it takes about a minute or so then I slowly feel it shift back. You can actually see movement from the outside of my body when it’s shifting back. I mentioned it to my doctor and she looked at me like I was crazy. When whatever it is shifts back it’s kind of like a spasm feeling. If I sit back up in time I can actually stop it from shifting out of place but I can feel the sensation that it was about to if I stayed in that position. I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s painful but it’s a very uncomfortable feeling until it’s moves back in place. It seems to affect my breathing a little. I have not given birth for more than 29 years and this started a few years ago. I am a heavy set person and I don’t know if that could have anything to do with it. I would sure like to find out what is happening and if this can cause any health issues down the road

Dollyjean · 08/01/2019 23:10

Am I the only one experiencing it on the right side?

FlossyFlara · 09/01/2019 19:00

thanks Lizjoseph65 I looked up psoas muscle and it certainly seems to be in the same area but it can get complicated reading it all and knowing what to do about it. we could do with someone medical or physio on mumsnet who may know more about it. looks like anyone who has been to the doctors doesn't get anywhere.

ShoppingBasket · 18/01/2019 23:34

Oh my goodness I have this too! It just happened me the last few minutes after ages of nothaving it. I've had it since I had a c section 10 years ago. When it happened me there now I actually could feel whatever it was flip and slide back into place. It always takes my breath away. It is the weirdest feeling ever.

Melanie11 · 23/01/2019 05:10

Thank you all so much, this has been happening to me for a few years but I could never find explanations or anyone else that had it too, when i bend forward sometimes it feels like my intestine gets stuck and folded over, and it's incredibly painful and iI have to try to stretch back up so it pops out of whatever. It scares me!

Melanie11 · 23/01/2019 05:13

No I get it under my ribs on my right side

Lozza61 · 03/02/2019 23:45

Wow after all these years I find my problem is a common one! I have had this problem since the birth of my third child, a 10lb 4oz boy, in 1987. I even saw a doctor about it who just thought I was mad. Anyway I call it my 'rolling rib' as that is what it feels like. I am now 57 and only occasionally get the rib roll but it doesn't worry me as I am still alive! :)

bitute · 13/02/2019 11:47

Joined mumsnet, so I can comment on this. I had the exact same thing happening to me, but on the right side. All started after I had my first baby. I must have had it a handful of times, not very often at all. It basically feels as if something is dislocating or as if someone is twisting their hand inside for 30sec or so. The pain is very intense, but goes straight away, when that bulging/flipped thing goes away. Its utterly bizarre. I did mention to my GP and she rolled her eyes and said it sounds like a muscle spasm. Well, no. I have also tried googling stuff, but no such luck. From the previous suggestions in this post, the only thing that closely fits the description of this issue is, where someone mentioned cartilage being disconnected/disattached from the rib. It's no way a hernia of any type, as its far too high for that. And thats what doc suggested too. Its not a cancer, like someone suggested here. Its not pyloris caused inflammation. Its not neurotic, i.e. related to some nerves. Its not a gallbladder either. Floating ribs? Probably not, because if you google images of it, they are at the back, and this is front pain. So it really makes me wonder if its something to do with cartilage (connects sternum to ribs). Maybe during pregnancy, baby pushes everything so high up, that it gets worn and changes shape, moves, disconnects somehow? P.S. i had my second baby recently and I had this pain under rib on my right through entire pregnancy. After the birth, I experienced what everyone describes, maybe, twice, but my rib in that area still tender. O should i call it cartilage, because that's where its sore! Not the actual bone, but cartilage, right at the bottom of it, on the right hand side.

Widget123 · 13/02/2019 12:19

I’ve had this before, I still get it sometimes, last week I got it reaching down to do my shoelace and it took my breath away, it hurts so much for a few seconds I hold my breath and get lightheaded because I freak out. I’ve got a good physio who found it straight away. It’s actually your ribs spasming and it bloody hurts. If you gently but firmly feel between your ribs in that area you will probably find one that’s slightly tender, get your hubby or a hcp to follow that rib right round to where it joins the spine and that joint will be tight and probably sore. Gently push between the vertebrae down your back you’ll find the spot and you just need to loosen it up to stop it all spasming. Immune started after my second daughter and it still scares the crap out of me when it happens!!

Widget123 · 13/02/2019 12:21

Just gently ‘rock’ that vertebrae joint and it should heal it over time... pregnancies leave our backs in such a mess!

tinajw1 · 21/02/2019 22:46

I have also had this weird pain under my ribs that sort of cramps and I can't move, it seems like I have something stuck under them. Anyway today I went to a chiropractor for back problems and he pushed into my back and I felt something pop. He said that I had a rib out of place and he had put it back. I can now turn and bend without the cramp and the weird feelings I had before. I think the other people who have commented on this feeling should see a chiropractor and get it fixed.

Andrea31818 · 31/03/2019 21:24

I have this weird pain on my left side of the belly when I get in the car I have to jump back out because the pain is Unbearable if feels like something flipped inside of my body and thenit goes back into place the pain lasts about 15 minutes but I cannot explain the pain because is like an unnatural pain that I can’t describe. I went to the doctor and he looks at me like I’m crazy and tells me there’s nothing wrong with me I went to the GP and they cannot find anything wrong with me so I don’t know where this pain is coming from but is there if anybody have any diagnosis on days I would I would appreciat I went to the doctor and he looks at me like I’m crazy and tells me there’s nothing wrong with me I went to the GP and they cannot find anything wrong with me so I don’t know where this pain is coming from but is there if anybody have any diagnosis on this please send feedbacks. I would greatly appreciate it thank you

WGSan · 20/06/2019 07:09

Same exact symptoms. Except I’ve never given birth and it’s always on my left side. I’ve googled this until the cows come home. What I’ve settled on is this: Precordial Catch Syndrome. Seems it’s thought to be rare in adults but I’m wondering if it’s in fact fairly common.

cathpants · 22/06/2019 21:47

So glad I found this. I get this weird sensation under my right rib. It feels like something is popping out of place slightly. It doesn't hurt but worrying obviously. I first got it doing the yoga plough pose! It was worse the first time and I got a lot of gas and dodgy tum at the time but it still comes back time to time luckily without the gas. I googled hernia but they seem painful but that's all I can think to explain it. Will Google some of the suggestions on this post. I've never found any other mention of it anywhere else! I'm 48 with 3 kids but not overweight with good stomach muscles

CatchCry · 12/07/2019 14:39

Thankful for this post! Just had a CT scan to work out what has been going on after my second child (who is now 7!!). But sounds like it is the same as most others on this post... left side, and a painful (sometimes excruciating) catch under my rib cage that I have to stretch/massage out. Will quiz the GP about Precordial Catch Syndrome on Monday. At an ultrasound 7 months it was suggested it might be caused by kidney stones....

Jkarosa · 15/07/2019 04:34

Me too! Mine isn’t just on the left either.. it’s all over. And I have had a vaginal birth, so i know it’s not scar tissue from c-sec..
I had wondered if it was from my “s” curve scoliosis.. or if that has something to do with it. Kiddo is nearly 4 now, and I’ve been dealing with this intermittently since she was born. Confused

Jkarosa · 15/07/2019 04:40

No. I also just had it on the right side.. though not exclusively.

Ln618618 · 28/07/2019 04:18

Been working with an sports medicine osteopath in this for a year now since an obscure twisting injury. No Broken bones, no illnesses. It almost feels like something internal is stuck on a floating rib.
I went to a visceral manipulation osteopath + my sports medicine DO and they both feel the “stuckness” abdomenal area in line with my floating ribs and yes pulling on the back vertebret of that floating rib.
Whole thing feels like it’s lulling meninwars to my midline at the core then followed by pulling my hips up and chest down.
Basically learned there are abdomenal muscles that are deep and connect to the pelvis and sternum and it’s as though that muscle or fascia is stuck or twisted literally affecting my rib cage with any movement.
They feel like stuckness right near my lower half ribs 7-12, getting right around T-12 area and literally bunching in ny stomach and midsection.
I’m still working through it with osteopaths bc they have found and felt what I felt and have had their hands far deep under my stomach on the “stuck” and it’s making my ribs sublux (flip over each other or “cross their fingers”). I suggest seeing a DO / osteopath who does visceral manual manipulation. They are great are finding the stuck that is deeper and more complex than what chiropractors and massage therapists and PT can get to and address.
