Welcome to our 36th healthy eating thread, where we will renew any healthy eating resolutions with all the viguor that the Christmas munchies require...

We chat, keep each other on track, and monitor our goals together- some on the thread have lost shed loads of weight, some are running ridiculous distances. Some, of course (like myself and Shiney, our dubious leader) have been a bit, er, remiss really. But that can all change with a New Year!

Come and introduce yourself, old and new, and let's get Mumsnet's famous Shiney Healthy Eating Thread kicked off for 2010...

I don't know the context DEM, but at a guess I'd say on the wagon?

DidEinsteinsMum · 01/01/2010 01:09

apparently its one to watch mn code for potentional bun fight. someone was brave enough to ask on the thread. it was made in comment to a post i made in jest.

IggiBurns · 01/01/2010 01:21

Ah, see there's me with my mind on drink as usual

DidEinsteinsMum · 01/01/2010 01:23

nought wrong with that could have been the case in some contexts. My mind is stuck on one thing at the mo too but its not the drink

IggiBurns · 01/01/2010 01:33

Whoops. Just remember the thoughts are often better than the reality!

jaquelinehydeThePresents · 01/01/2010 01:39

HAPPY NEWY YEAR

HAPPY NEW YEAR

HAPPY NEW YEAR

BOF and I were playing isketch until a few mins before the bells. I'm glad she noticed because I nearly didnt

DS came own stairs just as the countdown was on, DP and I had a big kiss and cuddle and I started crying like a baby. I don't know why New Year does that to me.

Here is to a fan-bloody-tastic 2010.

DidEinsteinsMum · 01/01/2010 01:41

depends on the reality iggi

Happy new year to you Jaq!

hellsbelles · 01/01/2010 08:16

Oh shucks, I missed the bosom (but I have now seen it about 4,000 times so will just do some memory recall to get me in the new year spirit!)

So this is going to be a lucky year for the shiney brigade - I just feel it in my bones (well - my bones under my ample coverage....soon to be size 10)

Had lots of champagne while wearing loungewear- watched the Wire (this thing goes on and on but is brilliant) and ate lots and lots of chocolate - rather like a squirrel hoarding for the cold two weeks ahead

JollyPirate · 01/01/2010 08:28

Hello - am adding myself here and thanking Shiney for the tip about this thread. HAVE to do this as I think my bathroom scales are becoming afraid of me. It's the nervous twitch and the shrinking into the corner they do when I go into the bathroom. Honestly - the nerve of them as I am sometimes only going for a bath!

Have a big dinner at Mums today (roast beef and all the trimmings for those interested) and then tomorrow the healthy eating will start in earnest.

Georgimama · 01/01/2010 08:32

Happy New Year shining ones. Am facing alarming prospect of a weigh in, but have realised have no scales (possibly the reason I have ended up such a lard arse). Will have to purchase some tomorrow (or later today if I can drag DH to Ikea).

I can guarantee I will never be a size 10, it would be nice at the moment if my size 16 jeans didn't have ample spillage of muffin top spilling over the sides . Am actually concerned about what to wear to work on Monday as wardrobe is full of clothes that don't fit. Could anyone suggest means of DIY lipo? We have a well equipped toolshed....

Georgimama · 01/01/2010 08:34

Just realised that sounded a bit rude

Georgimama · 01/01/2010 08:36

BoF a friend of mine got it into her head a couple of years ago that the answer to her financial problems was either to start a marjuina (sp) farm (which was a joke) in her attic or win a gameshow. We made the usual noises of "be sensible, cut back etc". Within six months she'd won £11,000 on deal or no deal.

bellavita · 01/01/2010 08:42

Morning - have got my yogga brekka at the ready.

Hello Jolly Pirate - roast beef dinner with all the trimmings sounds lovely.

Have got loads to do today and need to get my arse in gear.

awastingamanger · 01/01/2010 09:17

Good morning!
I'm excited about this shiney new year. (pardon the pun )

DEM What's involved in the Sleep Diet? I googled, but got two versions. I'm presuming it's not the one that involves eating poached eggs on toast before bed.

I told DH about the No S diet and he said 'so it's just like how I eat anyway' so I may give that a go as he is trim and I love my meal out on a Sunday.

georgimama - sounds like your friend did a spot of Noel Edmonds styley 'cosmic ordering'.

But while I snurk a little at cosmic ordering I am a firm believer in the idea of goals. And have consistantly found that when I do get practical and plan - it works.

And I'm not prone to having modest goals DH & I used to walk down the road we live in now and wonder how lovely it would be live here (and how impossible it seemed that we ever would).

And for a while did nothing about it. Then inspired by some US guru (can't remember which one - I think it was 'think and grow rich'!!) wrote a plan - and did it. It did take 10 years though! Now planning how to get to the next stage!

Enough new year self help bollocks from me - I'm off for a piece of cheese

I had my lovely yoghurt and strawbs for breakfast but I am still hungry

DH is winding me up today just looking at him. I can just see the way today is going to go - him sat on his arse on his laptop, me getting all het up about it and banging about and muttering to myself. The house needs a good tidy and clean - tree coming down today and furniture going back to where it should be. Floor needs mopping yada yada yada and no one seems to be making a bloody effort. Btw I am on my second load of washing, had a bath, made our bed...

hellsbelles · 01/01/2010 10:15

I am indeed, just started this morning- I haven't seen India Knight's (though I love reading her columns) - will have a look - thanks for the tip

(was it the smell of eggs that alerted you to my south beach tendencies )

Lizzylou · 01/01/2010 10:26

Happy New Year everyone!

Have had a lovely breakfast of low fat yog with walnuts (wasn't sure what else I could have as no South Beach diet book as of yet, hopefully soon though). Don't like eggs and ham and cheese for breakfast just seemed wrong.

Off to the seaside for the day to try and get a walk in without falling over too much, sooo much ice. Taking some low fat baby bels (sandwiches for the boys and DH). Luckily am still full of chocolate and cheese from the last week or so.

Hells, my mate did that, always said that she'd live in a particular road, and she did.
I need to think more positvely and do something instead of just moaning and sitting on my fat ass!

Have great days.

DidEinsteinsMum · 01/01/2010 11:24

morninng folks.

Shiney:i made a comment that could have caused a bun if the more hunny people were about. thankfully it was only the tougher more sensible mnners about last night so it materialised to nothing. But coud have done with your unemotional cold logic and kick up the ass sytle advice last night as got mysef into a pickle else where.

I have only just about woken up. goodness know what time it was when i kicked ds out of my bed this morning. but it would appear he is now house trained and set himself up to watch tv having fixed his own breakfast, although but the sounds of something mum said when she walked through i believe he is naked but wrapped in a duvet. Will have to draw enough strength to surface.

The sleep diet is basically what most people know and put down to coomon sense. I have just looked at my bookshelf and the book is actally called the duvet diet so if you google that it might be more helpful. It goes through why you put on weight if yuo dont sleep weel and it takes you through steps to getting better more restful sleep. I only got about 3 or 4 chapters in last time but it still made a big difference and i was less likely to be up at the godawful time i appear to have been posting last night. Threads i'm on is bloody full this morning

It makes sense DEM. I feel lighter when I've had a good night's sleep.

Have fun at the seaside Lizzy. Hope it's not too bracing.

I've been reading through No S this morning, while suffering from my modest hangover, it's looking v. 2010.
