Welcome to our 36th healthy eating thread, where we will renew any healthy eating resolutions with all the viguor that the Christmas munchies require...

We chat, keep each other on track, and monitor our goals together- some on the thread have lost shed loads of weight, some are running ridiculous distances. Some, of course (like myself and Shiney, our dubious leader) have been a bit, er, remiss really. But that can all change with a New Year!

Come and introduce yourself, old and new, and let's get Mumsnet's famous Shiney Healthy Eating Thread kicked off for 2010...

Well school is out, am relieved to be honest, it was hard yesterday doing 2 mammoth school runs in the snow and will be more dangerous today. My thighs felt it though, so that is good.

Not sure if DS2 will go to CM later on or not.
If he goes then DS1 will have to go to, which is extra expense, they love the CM (she is fab)and DS1 would be v upset at being left out.

Norma at toast, am South Beaching it honey, no nasty carbs for me , not the weather for it though, not really Beach like in Lancs.

Reality, my skin is bad too (detoxing as well), would love an extraction facial. Have you been drinking lots of water?

Both boys off to CM's, not told DH yet but hey ho, I need to get some work done so needs must.

More hill walking for me then...am sure once menstrual bloat has gone that I will have lost some weight, like you, Hells, I feel lighter somehow. That could just be all in my head as am finding it hard not to have toast

I went back to sleep for a while, ds1 came in about 7am and said the roads were terrible and the motorways even worse, a lorry had jack-knifed on the m62, so i went back to sleep, got up about 9 and phoned work

They said they were expecting me to call and knew i wouldnt be able to make it anyway, i am an hours commute by motorway so nobody expects me to do that journey in this weather

I did 30 mins on the wii fit last night, planning to do some more today, just had cinnamon porridge for brekke

VinegarTits · 05/01/2010 09:35

oh and i found an old inhaler with some gas in it so will keep me going until i can get repeat perscription, will phone for it today and pick up tomorrow when the snow (hopefully) clears

Lizzylou · 05/01/2010 09:44

Vinny, you stay in the warm. When even the motorways are bad then there's no point in flogging yourself to get to work.

DH took 2 hours to get to the North Manchester office, he said his car was the last one off the slip road from the M60 before they shut the slip road. He has his credit card so can get a room if he can't get home!
We are going nowhere, boys are playing DS/Cbeebies and then we are off sledging and building a snowman in the back garden (must be bigger than the one DH made in the front garden).

It is still snowing here, so roads will be blocked/impassable.

Not sure much will be going on in the Northwest legal world anyway!

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 05/01/2010 09:44

Vinny, the cold make asthma much worse as the cold causes airways to narrow, which makes it harder to breathe. its harder for everyone to breathe in the cold but even for those with asthma and respiratory disorders.

So i took ds to school, read the sign, and brought him home again. we've had over 12cm snow and its still going. The snow is shocking. Not sure what is going to happen about the conference i am supposed to be going on or the essay that has a deadline for friday. WHat if i cant get in for friday to submit it? Goodness knows what the policy is for that.

awastingamanger · 05/01/2010 09:50

Morning!

Glad u found an inhaler Vin, nohing worse han running out.

yank, glad the got to u. fingers crossed the come back!

DH is on his wa back from work, ver dangerous driving conditions. HAlf wa there and turned back.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 05/01/2010 09:53

Morning all.

No snow here yet.

Just written shitty letter to the bank, waiting for HV's to phone back regarding non sleeping DD, which is just getting worse and about to tackle the mahoosive laundry pile.

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 05/01/2010 09:56

Five - you can have ours! But aparently you'll get it either tonight or tomorrow. Enjoy.

SqueezyIsStartinAResolution · 05/01/2010 10:01

Morning ladies

What a morning, DHs car stuck on the drive again so he is off work. The snow is gorgeous, lovely and soft......but underneath it is lethal, pure thick ice. I have a cold and have had a nose bleed this morning, ears blocked, sore throat, blah, blah.

Glad you found your inhaler VT, can't risk being stuck in without it especially in this weather! Hope you are having a nice day off

Yank, hope you get your pipe fixed, am glad they discovered the origin before it got worse, whew! Fingers crossed you get it fixed today.

Am interested in this south beach diet, off to Google

FiveGoMadInDorset · 05/01/2010 10:05

yay snow, well a few ittsy bittsy flakes.

HV just phoned and very emarrasingly I urst into tears on her just getting all too much. She is coming out today to talk to us about DD.

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 05/01/2010 10:09

Apparantly policy is safety first. dont think will be getting to the conference on thursday though

MyCatIsABiggerBastardThanYours · 05/01/2010 10:13

MOrning everyone. I'm v pleased to say I'm back to 13st 2lb my pre christmas weight. Hooray!

Just waiting for the snow to arrive (I'm v excited - I love the snow! We are going sledging if it comes. COuldn't go last time as I was 9mths pregnant).

Sazzles - Hope work is OK and not too much of a shock!

My DS starts his settling in at nursery today. I'm a bit [smile} about it because I'm looking forward to time to myself and getting the freelance work going and a bit (big bit) because I'll worry about him. DD loves it and I know he will because he's such a sociable chap, but it's still hard. Don't have a choice though, need to earn money to pay the mortgage. Wish me and DS luck please.

MyCatIsABiggerBastardThanYours · 05/01/2010 10:15

Five - I hope you feel better soon. I'm glad the HV is coming out. I had so much trouble with DD not sleeping I went to a sleep clinic with her (millpond). Not sure what others think of them, but to be honest, it saved DD's and my life I think. That extra support and understanding. Hope HV can help you.

Lizzylou · 05/01/2010 10:24

Aw Fanny, sleep deprivation is such a bugger, hope you get it sorted.

MyCat, well done on getting to pre-Christmas weight, bet your DS will love nursery.

Help yourself to our snow, it is still falling thick and fast and no sign of stopping. May ring DH and see what he says about trying to get home........Met report says it will stop snowing at midday, so if he left the office at mid-afternoon he may make it back.

If not, he'll be attacking a mini-bar somewhere

MyCatIsABiggerBastardThanYours · 05/01/2010 10:32

Lizzy - I'm just watching the forecast and it's all moving south today so hopefully you wont have so much of it soon. It is fun for a couple of days then it just gets cold and boring (unless your a kid I guess, then it is fantastic).

Lizzylou · 05/01/2010 10:50

MyCat, it's been white here since the Friday before CHristmas, so 18th December, so there was still ice knocking around before we got loads more snow on Saturday.

Am v fed up of it now! Not so bad during the holidays, we had fun, but now with school/work it's a real PITA.

Take it away!

MyCatIsABiggerBastardThanYours · 05/01/2010 11:19

It's proper winter weather this year isn't it. I'm bloody freezing! I'm hoping that all the shivering is in some way burning up calories.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 05/01/2010 11:22

Mycat - well done on the weight. Have just googled Millpond and DH and I managed to answer yes to all the questions which doesn't bode well. Will have a chat with HV about it aswell, there are also other issues with DD which I don't know are related to lack of sleep or something else.

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 05/01/2010 11:40

Five: sleep deprivation is nasty for both parent and child. Ds is boarderline aspergers. he is a whole different child since we got the sleep sorted. His behaviour issues in the day are far less severe when he has slept and his ability to cope is unbelievable. For us sorting the sleep sorted everything else out. Actaully is it possible to say that the sleep deprivation was what was causing him to have aspergers like issues. U reckon that if we got him tested now he would probably come back as being normal and a typical boy with below average social skills but nothing that wasnt possible to be considered normal for a boy. Doesnt explain the hypersensitivity thing though

Hope you get the sleep issues sorted soon for you. It is a real bugger

anyone know anything about vocabulary and learning to read and what kids are supposed to be able to know vocab wise for ks2? Or even suggestions as to were to look?

MyCatIsABiggerBastardThanYours · 05/01/2010 11:43

I found them very helpful. And they'll work with what you feel comfortable doing (if you don't want to do CC they wont make you).

Sleep makes a massive difference to childrens behaviour doesn't it. DD was awful til we got her sleeping properly. She still has her moments but not what it was by any means.

LollipopViolet · 05/01/2010 11:48

Morning all!

Have had a quick skim through last night's posts. I'm feeling better today, didn't get dressed til about 15 minutes ago but I've got nowhere to be and I'd had about 10 beautiful hours sleep! Makes up for the 3 the night/morning before! Stomach now feels like I overdid it at the gym, rather than feeling like there's a lump of rock inside it!

Still going to do a low food day, I've never had a proper stomach bug before and don't want to risk it flaring up again. Mum's and nurse and she said it could've been like a 24 hour version of norovirus, because I was sick (after alkaselzer but still sick).

I want to do SOMETHING today, so will do a bit of uni work and then find a dance yourself fit type thing on Youtube (not got any DVD's yet lol)

YanknCock · 05/01/2010 11:54

MyCat, well done!

I am so surprised, plumber has turned up, even with all the snow! Am hiding in living room with electric heater, listening to sounds of electric saws, hammers, guy running up and down stairs.

Just as he got here I was pulling up the laminate over the leak, and pulled a nail out of the floor--all of a sudden water started spurting out! I was doing my best impression of a little dutch boy at a dam!

Sorr for all the !!!! It is just one of those days.
