Welcome to our 36th healthy eating thread, where we will renew any healthy eating resolutions with all the viguor that the Christmas munchies require...

We chat, keep each other on track, and monitor our goals together- some on the thread have lost shed loads of weight, some are running ridiculous distances. Some, of course (like myself and Shiney, our dubious leader) have been a bit, er, remiss really. But that can all change with a New Year!

Come and introduce yourself, old and new, and let's get Mumsnet's famous Shiney Healthy Eating Thread kicked off for 2010...

Secret - do it on FB then. Pretend we are a FB group of healthy eaters adn we've all got so skinny that we need extra warmth that is no longer provided by our layers of fat. Or something.

NormaSknockers · 04/01/2010 21:17

Cheers girls

Will try & keep up as much as I can - back on the diet wagon today as fell off for a long time but thankfully the weight gain wasn't to awful! I have 2 stone 4 lbs to lose & I must do it this year!

YanknCock · 04/01/2010 21:26

Fanny, how awful, but nice that you got a good day out the next day.

Nice work Mamazon, always feels good when you resist temptation!

Trillian, fab news on the very small gain!

Georgi, metformin? Have you got PCOS too? I used to take it, would like to go back on but not sure I can with breastfeeding.

I have waited in all day for this fucking contractor the home insurance emergency service is supposedly sending....first it was 8-1, then it was 12-6 (but promised nearer noon than 6). Then at 4:30 phoned up again to be told we'd 'slipped off the system'. In my most withering tone I said 'is that a technical term? How exactly does one just "slip off" your system?' I'm so angry and frustrated, I actually started crying on the phone when the guy said 'we can try to get an emergency appointment for tonight' to which I said, 'that would have been nice, YESTERDAY!' and DH had to take it off me.

Ooh, someone driving past very slowly....maybe??????

TrillianAstra · 04/01/2010 21:28

fingers crossed yank

NormaSknockers · 04/01/2010 21:32

Oh Yank what a PITA! Fingers crossed they're with you soon!

nope...no one here. They have another 18 minutes before I phone up and start bitching. Initially we were told to turn the heating and water off, but then on the most recent call to them they said to turn it back on!

I was querying their outgoing message which stated that freezing pipes were not covered....what if my pipes freeze as a result of me turning everything off as directed by them???

Still not clear on whether our hotel stay is definitely covered, but they are going to have a fight on their hands if not. House is taking forever to warm up again. We are huddled in the lounge still with the electric fireplace thing.

bellavita · 04/01/2010 21:44

Yank - I hope it is the man that can for you

Night Mitts.

SqueezyIsStartinAResolution · 04/01/2010 21:56

Hiya Norma

Yank - that is crap. Call them up and give them what for! They are the same shower of shits (Homeserve?) that we had bother with when the mice attacked the pipes. I know because I had to call them today to chase up an invoice and they had a recorded message about frozen pipes not being covered. Grrr for you! To be fair though, when the guy did eventually turn up, he was very good so fingers are crossed for you.

Ask Homeserve for the number of whoever it is they are using to organise the engineer....for us it was a company called DAS, then call them and demand they tell you when the engineer is coming, tell them you have no heating, no water and no toilet. I feel your pain.

NormaSknockers · 04/01/2010 21:58

Oh Yank that's so not on, fingers crossed they cover the hotel stay for you.

Night all catch up soon

YanknCock · 04/01/2010 22:12

Squeezy, yeah they are rubbish! Apparently they handle loads of different insurers, so they have no idea what I'm talking about half the time as far as my policy (through Leeds Building Society). Waiting on hold for them now. They did give me the number of the contractor, but the contractor was just as useless.

The heat is back on as is the water, god knows what damage it's causing, but the dipshit on the phone said to turn it back on when I complained last time, so I hold them responsible for whatever happens!

YanknCock · 04/01/2010 22:29

argggghghhhhh....while I was on hold, HomeServe phoned my mobile to say they couldn't get to us tonight....I was appreciative of someone actually calling me back (after many times promised and never done).

So I bitched a lot and now apparently we are the next appointment on the list and the guy is supposed to turn up between 11 and midnight

And I'm the Queen of fucking Sheba.

PhaseolusLunatus · 04/01/2010 22:31

Thanks all for the welcome A good first day today, but I am hungry, and I've eaten a lot. My stomach will adjust, won't it??? [Look of slight panic emoticon...]

FiveGoMadInDorset · 04/01/2010 22:32

Oh Yank - good luck

I watched Generation XXL - the amount of food and oil that mother used and she didn't do anything about it. Will be interesting to see what she is like in a years time.

PhaseolusLunatus · 04/01/2010 22:35

That is rubbish, Yank - sorry to x-post with trivia about my stomach; at least it is a warm stomach...

Hope they turn up Yank.

Shiney, chin up for tomorrow - you will be fab

Am going to bed now ladies.

YanknCock · 04/01/2010 23:49

They are here and cutting a hole in my kitchen ceiling. I can hear plaster falling. I hate this house and wish we'd never bought it! Should have just stayed renting, it's been nothing but grief.

YanknCock · 05/01/2010 00:44

Turns out the kitchen ceiling would have collapsed of its own accord within a few days if we'd left it. There has been a leak from one of the heating pipes, probably for some time now, soaking into the fibreboard ceiling, and it finally cracked and started leaking through. They can't get at the pipe to replace it from underneath, so we have to rip up the laminate upstairs and they will cut through the floor panels (newer build, no proper floorboards).

We thought it was more sensible to let the guys go on to their next job rather than start something very very noisy that will take at least 3 hours at midnight! I don't want DS to wake up, and as long as we know what the problem is now and can have the heat and water on, we can wait till the morning.

We had chinese for dinner. Healthy eating completely out the window. Will see what I can do tomorrow (or rather today as it's past midnight).

VinegarTits · 05/01/2010 05:37

Is anyone awake?

I can sleep, bloody gas has run out of my inhaler and i am wheezing due to some allergy to something, bloody fresh air so it seems, have been like this all christmas, puffing on my 3rd lung like a heavy smoker

It has snowed here too, thick snow so getting to work will be a nightmare, bloody car has been playing up (again) and doesnt seem to want to go anywhere fast when its cold

So should i take a holiday and not go to work today?

Do you think i could be allergic to snow?

Lizzylou · 05/01/2010 07:08

Vinny, duvet day, definitely. I have just packed off DH with a flask and some snacks for the journey, felt very 50s housewife
I wouldn't bother going in if you feel unwell and it is treacherous anyway.

Yank, so hope that you are all sorted, how frustrating for you.

Yank and Squeezy, Homeserve are the biggest pile of shit ever, we used them to fix our dishwasher and they were useless. Ruined our worktop, couldn't speak to anyone Customer Service was shite. I spent many an hour on the phone to them shouting my head off in the end.
We chose to use them as we couldn't find anyone to repair dishwasher, would never do that again (nor Repaircare who they use as well).

Just listening to Radio Lancashire to see if school is open or not.

jinglejet · 05/01/2010 07:53

morning all - wow you guys talked some last night

Yank - i really hope you get sorted today - what a nightmare!

Vinny, it has snowed here too I would def have a holiday day. I am actually grateful that i dont have a car at the moment, as i would be tempted to drive in it, and that is just scary

Good luck with the chopped fruit shiney

NormaSknockers · 05/01/2010 07:57

Morning all, catch up with you all later
