Welcome to our 36th healthy eating thread, where we will renew any healthy eating resolutions with all the viguor that the Christmas munchies require...

We chat, keep each other on track, and monitor our goals together- some on the thread have lost shed loads of weight, some are running ridiculous distances. Some, of course (like myself and Shiney, our dubious leader) have been a bit, er, remiss really. But that can all change with a New Year!

Come and introduce yourself, old and new, and let's get Mumsnet's famous Shiney Healthy Eating Thread kicked off for 2010...

Oh Flam, I do interact/play with them, and I do enjoy playing with them, I just need the break that Kerwhizz or whatever provides.
They don't seem to be able to just go and play upstairs nicely without constant supervision.
With no 1/2hour break I think I will be found rocking on the kitchen floor come 11am

They are like caged tigers if they are in all day.

TrillianAstra · 04/01/2010 08:06

Morning all, hope you got your thread sorted Jet and that you got some helpful advice out of it.

The thermometer says it's -3.2 outside, and I have t go out in it. Brrrrr.

FlamingoCrimbo · 04/01/2010 08:07

Only teasing Lizzy

bellavita · 04/01/2010 08:37

Morning all.

you are right Trills, it is cold.

I have to leave for work at 11.20 so I need to get moving (have only just got up).

No 0% yog left, so I am going to have porridge. Ham sandwich for lunch and spag bol for tea (must remember to give myself a half portion.

Lizzy - it does get better the kids being upstairs and not needing constant supervision (sort of) . Mine go off into their rooms to play music/dvds or whatever and then a little while later it is "Muuuuuuuuuum tell him to get out of my room he is annoying me".

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 04/01/2010 08:45

Morning. Off to a running start this morning. Not sure how much i shall be about until the peace of the february half term. Will do my best but dont worry if aowl. Life is now in full flow and just about to leave for school. Have a good one folks.

Jet - hope you get sorted soon.

MitsubishiWarrioress · 04/01/2010 08:46

Hello!

DS is at school and DD is asleep.

Jet...anything we can do at all just say. It might seem insurmountable at the moment but it can be resolved and you will feel so much better when it is. This is your life and you deserve the best from it so come on lady....lets kick some ass and get you back to a good place. A big hug... What are your initials on FB?

MitsubishiWarrioress · 04/01/2010 09:00

It's OK Jet...I know your initials..{duh}

bellavita · 04/01/2010 09:05

Mitts - I have sent a friend suggestion for jet to you.

Alicehasamincepieintheoven · 04/01/2010 09:14

Morning

I haven't had a chance to catch up because you all talk so much i have been busy

DH is in a grump this morning and pissing me off. He said "i'm sorry i am such an arse" i replied "you are not an arse, you are just acting like one, therefore you can do something about it" seemed to work anyhow

Off to Dr's for antenatal/booking appointment this morning and my precise, military style plan for this morning has gone tits up (of course!) so am having a MN catch up instead

Have a good day all

Alicehasamincepieintheoven · 04/01/2010 09:31

Someone in active convos has just linked this which states that women who have a waist measurement of 31.5inches (80cms) or above are at increased risk of heart disease and diabetes. I had no idea it was that small!! i can't believe that is right. I am just out of petite sizing and average 12 and my waist is 32

MyCatIsABiggerBastardThanYours · 04/01/2010 09:41

MOrning all. Hope your all warm and toasty at homes.

Jet - read your thread last night (was going to comment but DS decided he wanted some company ). Hope you get it all sorted out soon. I'd be happy to phone for you, or write you a letter if that helps. I'm a very good complainer (or so DH tells me!)

I was reading the Sunday Times and they had a really good article on emotional eating. which I have linked for us here. Basically it was saying what we probably all know, that unless we sort out the emotional reasons why we eat we may not keep weight off in the long term. It has some links to websites that help with that (not had a chance to look at those yet).

Thought some of you might be interested.

MyCatIsABiggerBastardThanYours · 04/01/2010 09:44

Alice - I thought the risk was heightened if your hip to waist ratio was over a certain amount (don't know what though). Basically hour glass or pear shaped less risk than apple shaped. Or something like that.

I'm too scared to even measure my waist now. Just happy to be in size 16/18 now, not 20/22.

jinglejet · 04/01/2010 09:46

thanks guys, and mits, have added you.

Mini is at school nursery I have peace and quietpgrin] She was so excited bless her, stopped to talk to the lollipop men on the way, explaining that she would see them every day now (as opposed to just on fridays) as she was starting her big school nursery She wouldnt shut up!!

Think she may struggle with her name though, they are calling her her full name, where as we call her a shortened version, so have been trying to teach her the spelling - its fun, as she keeps shaking her head and shouting, "thats not my name!"

Am feeling a little better today though and feel kind of ready to tackle things

Alice - thats the kind of thing i say to junior, that i know she isnt really as daft as she seems, so why does she insist on trying to prove me wrong

jinglejet · 04/01/2010 09:47

i too am not measuring my waist, but at least i can sort of see one now

VinegarTits · 04/01/2010 10:02

Bloody hell its freezing today, minus bloody 8 in this hellhole of a town i work in brrrrr

Morning people

Lizzylou · 04/01/2010 10:08

Just back from a 2 hour school run, 20 mins of which was defrosting the car! Well, I did have to pop to Tesco to get the boy's Poo Crumbs (Shreddies) for Breakfast as we may be snowed in again this week as well.

I have done lots of walking, mostly up hill (skating down hill, think I may qualify for Dancing on Ice this year ), so all good, more of the same for pick up!

Bella, I live for that day, they had got really good but recently just fight whenever they are upstairs, so it is just a massive pita to even bother.

Hope everyone is OK and not too cold.

Jet, hope you are OK and are sorted, you can do it, we are all behind you.

Flam, sorry, I forgot to ask how it had gone with your Dad? And yes, I knew you were teasing, but it is a wake up call when you have an actual panic attack due to no TV!

Alicehasamincepieintheoven · 04/01/2010 11:01

Just back from my Dr's appointment. Bloody receptionist didn't book me a double app despite me asking so have to go back next week. Dr has ordered me to go for blood tests asap and has booked me an app at the cardiology department to check my heart (bit scared tbh) so fun

Don't really feel like eating anything now.

awastingamanger · 04/01/2010 11:04

Morning! the other ctrl kee works, so I can cop and paste t and y when needed. :-D

Lizz, phew! that school run doesn't sound fun.

Jet, I've nothing practical I can offer, but you are such a lovely person. Anything we can do, don't hesitate to ask.

I'll have a read of that later Mycat.

Got windows open to help condensaion, so am freeeeezing.

I have not snacked so far this morning. :-)

bellavita · 04/01/2010 11:05

I am just trying to defrost my car.... the ice and snow is not budging.

LollipopViolet · 04/01/2010 12:27

Hi everyone!

Mind if I join you?

I'm trying to be healthy, finding it hard with being on the go on a demanding university course though

Went to the gym Saturday and wanted to go today, but ,ast night/this morning have had awful indigestion, stomach pain, was sick in the early hours etc etc so not a hope of me venturing out today!

Will go as soon as I feel 100% though. I've had toast and a dry cracker so far today, and some sugar free fizzy drinks to try and help make me burp!

Hopefully a low food intake day should help.

SqueezinAroundTheXmasTree · 04/01/2010 12:32

Hiya lollipop All are welcome, the more the merrier!

I was wondering if any of you have any plans for the chocolate that's in the house from Christmas? Are we locking it away or giving it away to someone skinnier, or something else? I have 5 boxes of chocs left and 2 boxes of mince pies, a box of those Cadburys cakes, 6 bags of crisps..... Knowing that they are in the cupboard is very tempting.....maybe I can get DH to take some into his work today?

Hope everyone is having a good day so far

LollipopViolet · 04/01/2010 12:50

Well, I'm lucky, still living with my family. I don't personally get given chocs, and I find when I'm home I can take or leave them. Uni for some reason, brings out the worst in my snacking so I'm glad I'm off til next week!

awastingamanger · 04/01/2010 13:04

Squeeze, I've areadee eaten mi share of chocs. DH share will get fed to DS graduallee.
