Welcome to our 36th healthy eating thread, where we will renew any healthy eating resolutions with all the viguor that the Christmas munchies require...

We chat, keep each other on track, and monitor our goals together- some on the thread have lost shed loads of weight, some are running ridiculous distances. Some, of course (like myself and Shiney, our dubious leader) have been a bit, er, remiss really. But that can all change with a New Year!

Come and introduce yourself, old and new, and let's get Mumsnet's famous Shiney Healthy Eating Thread kicked off for 2010...

OP posts:
MitsubishiWarrioress · 03/01/2010 09:27

Oh, I feel so good I hardly dare believe it. I really feel like my old self. Sorry to go on about it but I want this to be the end of my depression and the start of a new stage in my life.

It is like someone has been pressing down on my shoulders for a very long time and has suddenly stopped.

Oh fingers crossed........

FlamingoCrimbo · 03/01/2010 09:32

Good morning. Just had a fun, getting hotter than I expected, session on wii table tennis. I got rather cross though when I kept losing

We're driving down to my real dad's later this morning - eek! First visit with him since we went down to tell him I was pg with DD1.

Lizzylou · 03/01/2010 09:39

Fingers crossed indeed, Mitts, must be you nurturing your inner child (how was the luge run?).

Hells, no Waitrose nearby, but we do have Ocado deliveries and also Booths (like a Northern Waitrose, some would say nicer), so will have an investigation........I love squeaky Halloumi

Been awake nearly all night, period pains, ache all over and have developed constant sneezing (you know what I am worried about here) and a runny nose, fab.

But didn't succumb to chocolate, took DH off to bed to watch War of the Worlds on TV. Was OK, but more importantly it was a long way from the kitchen

hellsbelles · 03/01/2010 09:39

Mitts - enjoy the feeling! What a wonderful post to read. But sorry to hear DS was sick. Hopefully it's that 12 hr thing that's doing the rounds? Horrible but it does go soon enough.

Re nosebleeds - yes he does and it does scare me a bit (though he is a chronic nose picker - inherited skill from his mother which I'm sure aggravates it). I've googled it so many times but couldn't find any suggestion of underlying causes. What other symptoms are there for sinus issues? DS is pretty healthy and robust apart from this

Anyone heard of club penguin? DS is obsessed. He has seriously suggested I try it. He said he imagines it's a lot like mumsnet and therefore I would like it.

Mitts, I'm so excited for you that you are feeling so good about yourself

I'm feeling similar. Just keep exercising and doing good things and, while you're well, build up a stock of ideas so you can cope with a depressive episode if you get another one. And as soon as you see any signs, leap into action with them.

We'll have to keep eachother's chins up.

Lizzylou · 03/01/2010 09:43

Hells, DS1 loves Club Penguin as well, he waits around trying to challenge other Penguins to Connect 4, he gets very competitive

My Brother and my Mom both suffered from nose bleeds a lot, no real reason for it as far as i know. It could be him picking his nose, perhaps go to GP and have a chat? Can't they cauterise a vein or something to stop them, or have I completely dreamt that?

Mitts, have never heard of an abdominal migraine, but if it is anything like a "normal" migraine, poor lad, hope he is OK.

FlamingoCrimbo · 03/01/2010 09:44

Shiney, step away from the cheese!

Or, even better, get on Food Focus, plan your eating for the day, and work out how you can 'afford' the cheese and wotsits.

Lizzylou · 03/01/2010 09:44

Have you re-logged into Lord Ford, Shiney?
You can then have your wotsits and cheese (but very little else unless you run 10km).

We need to kick ass again. Very definitely.

Lizzylou · 03/01/2010 09:45

I type so bloody slowly!
Great minds, eh, Flam?

FlamingoCrimbo · 03/01/2010 09:45

DD1 plays club penguin. It's ok, but I do object to paying for membership and refuse to do so - she just has to play the free version. What is annoying is that she and her friends arrange to 'meet up' in penguin world whenver they get home from seeing eachother, and that involves long phone calls where all I can hear is 'are you in the plaza?, I'm in the snowdome' ad nauseum.

Georgimama · 03/01/2010 09:50

Come and eat like a French woman with me Shiney on the no s diet. Have the cheese at lunchtime (just a very tiny piece, extravagently presented with lavish care with tablecloth and napkins) and then spend all afternoon shagging. Bin the wotsits, they're just salty puff and you don't really want them.

Last of the Christmas cake is going in the bin in a mo.

shiney you could join the dark side (the south beach dieters) - we are allowed cheese in it's low fat variety which is actually not as bad as I imagined.

But you will get very farty for a bit. I am at the moment

Lizzy - I think you are right - they can do that but at the moment it's not enough of a problem (it's probably once a month) so I'll just double check with the dr. He's (DS) is very good about it. He sits there pinching his nostrils for about 10 mins - not getting too upset by all the gushing blood.

Only 2 more lazy days then work - really really have enjoyed this christmas and can't wait for the next one.

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 03/01/2010 10:02

morning folks.

thanks for the enegery pills mitts. Much a preciated. And very glad to hear you are feeling a bit chirpier.

Ds has been surprised to learn that if he jumps and climbs on me i refuse to get up and just throw him out. I on the other hand have enjoyed the resulting lie in and an more feeling guilty as i still have to write my essay. However ds is doing something with grandad which he doesnt normally get the opportunity. Dad working away most of the week and then being on a mission to get stuff done on his days home. He'll be happy.

I am going no s again but not til monday. Monday is doomsday here so just trying to get stright but i think i might have to start the duvet diet first and get this sleep issue (or lack of it) sorted.

On a plus note ds has shifted his cold and seems pretty clear chested so i can shove him back on the sleep meds tonight and get him in bed early. On a minus note i am back to school tomo. so much i should have done is just not done. Need to get more organised. Need a computer ban. but not going to happen this week as i have to use the internet towrite my essay. So i shall be lurking. It has been really nice to be about alot this holiday. But fear this is going to significantly lessen now the new term is amongst us.

MitsubishiWarrioress · 03/01/2010 10:03

hells.....DS sniffs constantly when it is bad, and occasionally 'hawks' which is when I march him off to the doctor GROSS!!

Shiney, perhaps you need to look at the defiant streak in your nature. Where food is concerned it is a double edged sword. Hmm....I suspect you are not a big fan of being 'told' what to do which is exactly what a 'diet' is.... so you need to find one that gives your strong will an opportunity to get it's own way whilst losing the weight that you want to lose.

traceybath · 03/01/2010 10:20

Hells - I used to get lots of nosebleeds as a child but they stopped at puberty only to recur when pregnant.

Shiney - is yoghurt and fruit very filling - not sure that would keep me going till lunchtime. I like special k or branflakes with skimmed milk. Sometimes I even mix the two and have hot milk - I'm wild me.

Am still on clearing out mission but harder today as DH gone off to do a race. He also mentioned he's going on a cycling holiday in feb for a few days - lucky him.

Can't wait till I stop bf and can leave him in charge of dc's whilst I go off on a break. Not cycling though more likely shopping and drinking.

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 03/01/2010 10:25

would never have considered shiney as rebelious mitts. where on earth you you get that impression

Right that is it i have decided as of tomorrow for one week i will be doing the duvet diet at which point i might be awake enough to diet properally. Glad to be back as school as i spend the whole time walking about so shift extra weight more easily. sitting it not allowed. Just need to work on my list to do.
Step one:
rid bed and room of dust mites.
limit evening computer time (amap)
Go for a walk in the morning.
fix my bed and up times and stick to them
cut out the caffine and stimulants from diet.
Sleep diary might be useful too (though as i am carp this will be rather pointless and forgotten about)

specialising in long posts at the mo it helps to write everything done. maybe i need to start a scribble file for this sort of stuff....

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 03/01/2010 10:33

Right need to looks at the old diet next and be honest about what i dont eat and see where i am likely to be deficient and what needs to be done to sort. i love the idea of the roasted veg so i think that might be tea tonight. Will sort that out later.

Can some one give me some inspiration of what i can do with ds. we are actually really engaging at the mo. Partly is the fact that i am being crap, partly is the fact that he has been happy to play on his own, and partly is the fact that he wants to do imagination games which i find almost impossible when tired and in work mode. If i suggest we go out he says no dont want to and it is then pointless taking him out as it will not be fun. He hasnt even wanted to play in the snow. think the novalty has worn off. So any bright ideas folks.

Was hoping to take him to the beach but the weather is not right for such a long trip. So will do that next weekend.

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 03/01/2010 10:40

opps meant to read not actually engaging...

awastingamanger · 03/01/2010 10:46

Morning everone!

DH spill wine on lapop, so essenial kes aren' working.

No S-ing since Frida, wih 3 S das in a row. See how I like i omorrow. :-D

Kissing - 2010 will be a good ear. :-)

MitsubishiWarrioress · 03/01/2010 10:51

I'm like that with DD and her 'imagination' games Chaos, I think I am turning schizophrenic from the multitude of characters that I have take on.

We are about to play 'removals' though so I can get her to help tidy her bedroom again though.

TrillianAstra · 03/01/2010 11:23

Morning all. Everything is moving very fast at the moment, let me know when we get to do more wedding-dress shopping

Drank some pink nearly-champagne last night, it was a present just before Christmas and I didn't want it to hang around too long or else it would go in that mental box that says 'leave for a special occassion' and never get drunk.

TrillianAstra · 03/01/2010 11:52

By the way I recommend you read this thread for a beautiful example of stealth reveal. Don't post until you've read it all, by which point all the things you were going to say probably aren't relevant any more.

Georgimama · 03/01/2010 11:56

I steer away from relationships in terms of posting, I never seem to have anything constructive to say, and unlike AIBU letting a deluded poster have it both barrels is not usually in order. Will read though.

I googled "shovelglove" with great trepidation (as I was someone who didn't need to google dragonbutter to figure it out). Hmm. Not so keen on him now. Also doesn't look very French (can't imagine Madame Sarkozy doing that) so will pass.

Am making huge pan of saintly minestrone soup for lunch. Yum yum.
