Welcome to our 36th healthy eating thread, where we will renew any healthy eating resolutions with all the viguor that the Christmas munchies require...

We chat, keep each other on track, and monitor our goals together- some on the thread have lost shed loads of weight, some are running ridiculous distances. Some, of course (like myself and Shiney, our dubious leader) have been a bit, er, remiss really. But that can all change with a New Year!

Come and introduce yourself, old and new, and let's get Mumsnet's famous Shiney Healthy Eating Thread kicked off for 2010...

I'm off to bed now shiney (feel much tireder with no wine inside me ), glad you had a good day.

Night all.

FlamingoCrimbo · 02/01/2010 21:07

Hello shiney

Talking about height (or lack of it!), I quite like being short. I only don't like it when tall people are rude about my height or when DH puts things out of my reach by mistake.

MitsubishiWarrioress · 02/01/2010 21:11

Hey you lot, you are nice and chatty.

Good healthy eating talk as well.

You are an inspiration Sazzles...

I feel better this year already. I am not sure if it is the supplements I am taking or reducing refined crap foods already working but for the first time in so long I am up at this time, with energy, and I have done SO much today.

Glad you are back and mostly OK Vinny....

Lovely dresses to look at.

Lizzy, I am glad you are OK also.
We have had big snow. We made two lovely snowmen and by the time we had fetched coffees and drinks someone had kicked them down.., I just don't understand some people.

I am 5' 9''ish, and big boned. When I put weight on, I seem to just inflate all over so I get bigger everywhere.

Is Ted better Shiney? I haven't seen much of you these past few days.

DS has an abdominal migraine..he is miserable and I just don't know what to do for him.

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 02/01/2010 21:14

where as i hate my height. Have done since i had a huge growth spurt at 16 and went from 5 ft4 to nearly 5 ft7 in one summer. Complicated by the fact until my chest expanded, i am short in the body, i could buy all my tops in the kids section if i wanted but couldnt buy any trousers the right lenght anywhere. Am lucky that i carry the weight well but not lucky as that is when it is a silent killer. Cant wait to shift this weight but working on something else at the mo and sticking to my resolution of no resolutions til monday when i shall start properally having demolished anything that requires it before hand today and tomorrow.

traceybath · 02/01/2010 21:34

Chaos - 5ft7 is a lovely height and it sounds like you're leggy with it.

So - have noticed that some people weigh themselves at night. Lordy I am a strictly first thing in the morning after a wee weigher - I'm at least 2lbs heavier at night!

Although when I'm being really obsessed (which is not a good thing) I do sometimes weigh myself in the morning and evening .

jinglejet · 02/01/2010 21:39

I am 5ft 5, which i think is prob just right for me, though i do need to find a weight that suits that height

Jac, i know its daunting, but we will do it! I think you made a fab start, and like you say, things happened you werent prepared for. Good luck and we will all support each other

I seem to have stuck, am now 15st4, and desperately wanted to be 14st something for xmas, but i guess it will be a belated xmas pressie to myself to do it this month

Little one starts school nursery on monday (i will try and figure out a way to put a very cute pic of her in her tiny little uniform onto my profile, but i dont think i know how to do it on the desktop - god i need the laptop back!) and i am aiming to use those couple of hours on a morning to get some serious exercise done. May even brave swimming...

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 02/01/2010 22:06

Tracey - i think i have never adapted from the shock of suddenly being one of the tallest from being one of the smallest. It was a big jump - especially as i had always been tiny before that. Oh to be 3 inches smaller. But then again its not so bad these days as the youngsters all seem to be giants so i dont stick out so badly

MyCatIsABiggerBastardThanYours · 02/01/2010 22:20

Evening ladies. Just thought I'd pop in before having a flirt with Chat, Relationships and AIBU (Yes, usually) then bed for another night of DS yelling and me quietly praying to any deity listening for him to just go to sleep.

Lizzy - thanks for the nice comment on that other thread earlier. She annoyed me with such a sweeping statement on diets that she had clearly never looked into or tried (and I think she does the Low GI diet so was a bit out of order to claim others were no good).

FOr anyone interested I'm 5'7" and have fluctuated from 9st 2lb up to 17st 5lb (5 weeks post DS birth - god knows what I was at the end of 9 1/2 mths pregnancy). Now about 13st 4lb. I like to think I'm an hourglass shape, but tbh, the bottom half is more 2hrs than 1hr .

Don't know many of you well enough at the moment to comment too much on anything you have said (don't want to piss anyone off just yet ) so sorry, I'm not ignoring you, just lurking a bit til I get to know you better.

hellsbelles · 02/01/2010 22:47

evening all. Head is hurting again from lack of wine! Lizzy - I got my half fat hallumi (sp?) at waitrose....and I've stocked up on light baby bel cheeses for when I need a quick snack!

And while I may have been slim and tall (thank you for saying that Lizzy - lucky you haven't seen me in RL to be disappointed!) at certain stages of my life....I am still tall (i suppose you can't shrink can you!) but I most certainly am not slim anymore

Vinny - how did i not see you return! Welcome back.

Shiney - ...shall try and find your thread

TrillianAstra · 02/01/2010 23:01

Mmm, halloumi. Not cheap, but lovely and squeaky.

bellavita · 02/01/2010 23:09

Oh bugger!

DS1 and his blimmin i-pod touch - he takes it everywhere. Has only gone and dropped it down the effin toilet. Instead of coming to tell us he has dried it with a towel and put it on to charge and tried to hide the fact that it is sopping wet- DH thinks he will have "boned" it by charging it. Should have just gone straight into the airing cupboard to dry off. DS1 is in tears because it no longer works and DS2 is in tears because DS1 is. The blasted thing cost an arm and a leg and has £30 worth of i-tunes vouchers on it plus lots more that DS1 has bought with his pocket money.

You have been busy jaq.

Has someone with the initials LW added me as a friend on fb?

Have just had an Indian takeaway.
And a bottle of wine
And some Ben&Jerry's

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 03/01/2010 01:19

Iggi are you always up at this time of night? I used to be the night owl of the thread but will gladly pass the honor over

BitOfFun · 03/01/2010 01:21

I have Ben&Jerrys lurking in the freezer, but have resisted so far...

IggiBurns · 03/01/2010 01:23

I just can't control myself from having that "I wonder is anyone still on the thread" wee check before I go to bed!! I have no business being up, my turn for the morning and it will start early. But need to drink my pint of water before bed! What are your excuses?!

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 03/01/2010 01:28

ermmmmm dont know where the off switch is?

still trying to relax after ds didnt go to sleep til 10pm?

Know i have to get up early and thus cant sleep?

Reading threads that i really should know better then reading?

Ds has just become house trainined and will play on his own without destroying the house so a lie is possible?

There are tons others but the true is i am just crap.

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 03/01/2010 01:32

oh and ds has just got up. need to go deal. night.

IggiBurns · 03/01/2010 01:32

None of those reasons equal you being crap, you moo
What about, "I'm very socially aware and need to communicate with others"?
"I'm doing research for my latest book"?

IggiBurns · 03/01/2010 01:40

Night night

Georgimama · 03/01/2010 07:27

Sorry I disappeared sharply last night (I'm aware no one probably either noticed or was bothered but got to be conventional) DH had cooked a lovely meal and then got huffy about sitting alone on the sofa.

I've just read every word of the nosdiet.com website. Firstly, I think I'm in love with the author, secondly, that's got to work, right? You can eat anything, just no sweets, snacks or seconds (except a few on Sat/Sun). For me, as soon as a diet says, "you cannot eat this", or even better, "you cannot eat this with this" it's a non starter. I might last a fortnight, or a month, but it's never going to work long term.

On the basis of the nosdiet I am therefore making myself a sausage sandwich.

I am a strange mix of iron will (gave up smoking four years ago by stubbing out a cigarette and simply never lighting another one - having smoked 20 a day for about 12 years) and lilly livered weakness. I just need to make diet and exercise one of my iron will areas of my life.

hellsbelles · 03/01/2010 08:17

morning all,
Georgi - will watch with interest how you get on - sounds like a perfect diet!

I'm on morning duty this morning and it has been eventful already with a dramatic nosebleed from DS.

Iggi & chaos - hope you aren't too knackered this morning.

MitsubishiWarrioress · 03/01/2010 09:16

Lobs energy pills at Chaos and Iggi.

Hi Georgia, I think sometimes you wonder if any body would notice if you died on this thread or if people would just step over you, especially when it is very fast moving but we love each other really.

What did DH cook?

DS was copiously sick last night . I am SO glad I managed to mend my washing machine.

Sausage sandwich sounds really good......yumm...

Does DS get a lot of nosebleeds Helles? We found out DS gets sinus trouble that causes them..
