Welcome to our 36th healthy eating thread, where we will renew any healthy eating resolutions with all the viguor that the Christmas munchies require...

We chat, keep each other on track, and monitor our goals together- some on the thread have lost shed loads of weight, some are running ridiculous distances. Some, of course (like myself and Shiney, our dubious leader) have been a bit, er, remiss really. But that can all change with a New Year!

Come and introduce yourself, old and new, and let's get Mumsnet's famous Shiney Healthy Eating Thread kicked off for 2010...

DH has just got me a low cal tonic with a slice of lemon and lime. I have gin, baileys, advocaat, wine, chocs, biscuits, mince pies, xmas cake... but I am going to ignore it all for at least 10 days.

I got some different sized clip it boxes in a pack from Lakeland and I will use them for work and put some cut up pepper/carrots and cherry toms in to snack on. It feels like I have been away from work for weeks and weeks (tis only two).

Lizzylou · 02/01/2010 20:13

Hells, have had some walnuts, they are nice, but they are not chocolate!
Your dinner sounds fab

VinegarTinselTits · 02/01/2010 20:14

ds1 has just talked me into sharing a chinese with him and his gf

I am starting a diet on Monday, i have got so fat that i cant breathe i am wheezing all the time and forever puffing on my third lung (inhaler)

traceybath · 02/01/2010 20:17

Haven't been too bad today - made pizzas for dinner but just margarita so not too unhealthy I hope.

I do agree - portion size is key. I'm small (only 5ft and quite small boned) and find every pound really shows.

Am in massive sorting out mood at the moment - have filled 6 boxes of stuff to carboot/ebay/charity shop.

No snow here yet and DH off to do a mountain bike race tomorrow.

bellavita · 02/01/2010 20:18

tracey - you are the same height as me!

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 02/01/2010 20:20

i forgot about roast vegetables. one of my favourite bits of sb diet.

FlamingoCrimbo · 02/01/2010 20:20

I'm 5' 1" - are we a thread of short arses?

TrillianAstra · 02/01/2010 20:24

Me too with the gin and tonic.

Making pork with cashew nuts (and lots of veg-type things) for dinner. There's porbably tons of fat in cashew nuts but nut-fat is healthy fat, or so I believe.

Lizzylou · 02/01/2010 20:24

Oh no, I am 5ft 9" and built like a brick shithouse door (though v ladylike ).

Will see if I can find any half fat Halloumi, if I can have cheese, I can (almost)survive the lack of wine!

TrillianAstra · 02/01/2010 20:26

I'm 5'7, Lizzy is taller. GetOrf is a giant (is she around?) Mamazon came on once or twice, she's as tall as her name suggests.

traceybath · 02/01/2010 20:29

I'd love to be taller and hence always wear heels.

DH is 6ft4 so hope dc's inherit his height rather than mine.

When pregnant I seriously looked like a weeble as gained 50% of my normal weight!

Lizzylou · 02/01/2010 20:32

See Tracey, I always wanted to be petite and feel all little and protected.
Instead of looking like Danny La Rue.

traceybath · 02/01/2010 20:34

But 5ft9 is model height! I'm more munchkin height.

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 02/01/2010 20:36

lizzy - i used to use low fat cheddar but there are cheeses that are ok. can a small piece can be used as a snack.

Lizzylou · 02/01/2010 20:40

I think that Hells is model height and model build, I am built big (big, wide feet, broad back and hips), not willowy in the least and then fat on top.
Not a good look!

Low fat cheddar, thanks DEM, Tesco do a very tasty low fat cheddar!

Georgimama · 02/01/2010 20:47

Snap Lizzy, I am five nine, which is fortunate considering how much I currently weigh. When fighting weight I am an hourglass, at the moment my saddlebags have saddlebags.

Lizzylou · 02/01/2010 20:50

Georgi, I am an hourglass too, well I used to be.
I honestly couldn't say at the moment!
HOw much do you want to lose, Georgi?

I'd like at least 1.5stone off, but also to tone up and keep fit and healthy.

jaquelinehyde · 02/01/2010 20:53

Evening ladies

well today I managed to change all the bedrooms around and clean each one from top to bottom.

I have tidied half of the Christmas clutter away, and,

have given a double bed away on freecycle, advertised, emailed about, and collected.

Now I am sat, having had a lovely hot bath, 3 dc's tucked up in bed, thinking about what needs to be done tomorrow.

  1. Other half of the Christmas stuff
  2. Clean and tidy kitchen
  3. Clear all washing and ironing (6 loads)
  4. Begin uni work

I know, I know we are not a fly thread.

So diet wise, I weghed myself to day, in preparation for when my diet will start (next Thursday) and I am back up to 24st 10lb possibly a bit more but I have mechanical scales and can't see it properly. Anyway I'm happy I'm not back up to, and over my original weight of 25st 5lb.

Yes I know I lost 2 stone originally, but shit happened and I wasn't prepared for it. I'm sure that must sound like a cop out, but I'm stil coming to terms with my food demons. I'm just amazed that my resolve has remained so in tact.

This will be done, I will be healthy. I will fit into normal clothes and not the shit that shops think fat people want to wear.

Georgimama · 02/01/2010 20:53

The amount I want to lose sounds scary. Fighting weight (which I haven't been for about 8 years tbh) is eleven and a half. It's not skinny, far from it, but at 11.5 I have no muffin top, flat stomach and lean thighs.

That's nearly four stone though (gulp). How do I even begin to lose four stone?

Lizzylou · 02/01/2010 20:55

Jac, I have lost 10lbs, gained 10lbs, lost 10lbs again and gained 10lbs again since being on this thread.
Why 10lbs is my magical figure I don't know

YOu'll do it lovely, I think we need some of Syc's therapeutic talkings to, she always made such sense!

jaquelinehyde · 02/01/2010 20:56

Oh and I am 5'6 so just average. Can you imagine how my figure looks

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 02/01/2010 20:56

just like how you would eat an elephant a small bit at the time. make a small goal and get there, make another goal and achieve that. you'll soon be getting big chunks done without realising it

jaquelinehyde · 02/01/2010 20:58

Ahhh yes I do love Sycs wise words. And yes I will do it, I am sure of it. It's just going to take a while to lose a minimum of 10stone.

Lizzylou · 02/01/2010 20:59

Georgi, how do you study law and then train to be a solicitor with a young child?
Because you have willpower and determination, you just need to use that on your diet/fitness.

(Oh and PI ambulance chasers pay our mortgage DH works for a PI firm, nowt wrong with PI at all. Good for you for being kept on, you must be v good, so many trainees are being let go at the moment)

jaquelinehyde · 02/01/2010 20:59

Jet my elephant would be gone in one sitting....that's my problem
