Welcome to our 36th healthy eating thread, where we will renew any healthy eating resolutions with all the viguor that the Christmas munchies require...

We chat, keep each other on track, and monitor our goals together- some on the thread have lost shed loads of weight, some are running ridiculous distances. Some, of course (like myself and Shiney, our dubious leader) have been a bit, er, remiss really. But that can all change with a New Year!

Come and introduce yourself, old and new, and let's get Mumsnet's famous Shiney Healthy Eating Thread kicked off for 2010...

fgs - DH has got a piece of christmas cake - all fondanted and marzipanned. I can hear every bloody chew of every mouthful. It is getting on my bloody nerves.

traceybath · 01/01/2010 20:18

You see I hate any dried fruit so christmas cake has no appeal.

Luckily all treats seem to have gone now so tomorrow I should find it easier to be good. I just have no willpower if there is yummy food in the house.

Georgimama · 01/01/2010 20:36

I've just had roast beef, roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, peas and gravy. Yum.

KissingUnderTheMittsletoe · 01/01/2010 20:41

I dunno if I am talented Lizzy, but I do love it, and thank you.

I kind of like Dr Who, and usually like the big fat quiz of the year but am not really a telly fan, so I am unlikely to switch it on myself.

Hullo TraceyBath, I don't think we have met. I have lemon Tart

I haven't done too well today as it is cold and I tend to eat more, I don't think I have been BAD, just not GOOD IYSWIM.

I don't think I mentioned, I suspect I am going through early pre-menopausal symptoms..which is a big bummer, hair loss, really irregular AFing, hot flushes, tearful, sleep disturbance..
Joy of joys! anyway, in lieu of seeing a doctor I got a supplement and have felt a little better for the last couple of days than I have felt for a while.

I sort of felt better about things because it made stuff I was feeling make sense. Don't give a fig about when I go through it really, but it is nice to have a reason for turning into a shrieking, leaking,(tears, NOT incontinence) batty middle aged woman.

Any way, off for a prune and pilchard toastie...

Sazz...I love salmon..

Georgimama · 01/01/2010 20:43

I think DH is after brownie points, he's just put on a play list he made for me on Spotify, which started with Barbara Streisand "Woman in Love" and culminated with this which is just blub worthy. Wonder what he's done....

awastingamanger · 01/01/2010 20:57

Just weighed myself. 3lbs ON in the last month. Haven't been good so no surprise, but wanted to know where I was to start the year off. I shall be doing a Friday weigh-in from now on.

Got to go...

MyCatIsABiggerBastardThanYours · 01/01/2010 20:59

Evening all and Happy New Year.

I went to bed at 10:30 last night. I think that is the first time since I was about 8 that I haven't seen in the new year. I was so bloody knackered and new I would have CC fun and games with DS I just couldn't be doing with another late night.

Was meant to start the diet today but got up and forgot, ate peanut butter on toast for breaky followed by KFC for lunch (treat of DD and me).

BUT, I have stood on the scales tonight and it's not too scary (about 3lb on) so I'm starting tomorrow with avengence.

KissingUnderTheMittsletoe · 01/01/2010 20:59

Oh god Georgia....that's quite a track

Georgimama · 01/01/2010 21:05

I could put three pounds on just by looking in my fridge and inhaling deeply. Fret not.

DidEinsteinsMum · 01/01/2010 21:16

Right am off to bed, not making the same mistake tonight as ast night . If anyone trips over my mobile could you leave it somewhere obvious as i have lost it again. The damm thing spends more time lost then found IME.

Maybe he is just hoping to drag you into the bedroom early?

Night all!

BitOfFun · 01/01/2010 21:46

God, me too DEM! Come and help me please!

OP posts:
bellavita · 01/01/2010 21:49

Mine just lurks in the bottom of my handbag - sometimes it is dead!

hellsbelles · 01/01/2010 22:25

lizzy - you are doing so well at not moaning about the diet (unlike me) and your supper sounds lovely. I have just remembered that I get the most awful headache the first few days of south beach but I'm holding out in the knowledge it goes soon enough. I guess it must be the lack of coffee? I also got rather bad constipation last time for a day or two. URghhhh.

Trills & Georgia. It's an easier sort of atkins. I tried it as a friend of mine lost weight quickly and recommended it - and then I found the same when I did it. I love food and cannot bear the counting types of diets as it makes me too obsessive over it (though I know they are great for other people)...so this is a kind that suits me - as you just get a list of things you need to avoid (only counting is how many nuts ) which my brain can manage. Also I love olive oil on everything and I'm allowed that.

I also know from last time round that once you've done phase 1 - phase 2 (where you can start having wholemeal bread, rice, WINE, is actually really easy.

Now must go and read to try and distract my attention from my sore head.

Night everyone.

bellavita · 01/01/2010 22:27

Night hells

DidEinsteinsMum · 01/01/2010 22:30

sorry that feels better. i might be having to leave my fly thread due to a newbie. not a happy bunny.

Georgimama · 01/01/2010 22:31

Ooh, OTW? Where? I love a good kicking off. Promise to play nicely.

DidEinsteinsMum · 01/01/2010 22:36

Dutifully playing nicely. might not kick off thought my sis might have turned up to haunt me. we dont get on and have a habbit of winding each other up. Will see, waiting to find out if is case. then ther might need to be some name changing and hiding out done if necessary. Not really doing the early night thing am i tonight sucked in again. This is how it started last night.

IggiBurns · 01/01/2010 22:38

Hullo
Off to research what fly means. A new year, a new mumsnet term for me.
Hope everyone is happy and ready to take on the year..

MyCatIsABiggerBastardThanYours · 01/01/2010 22:39

Just watched Dr Who on I player. V good, although did drag on a bit. New guy's an ugly bugger though.

Kissing - I hear starflower oil is pretty good for pre-menopausal and menopausal issues. My mum swears by evening primrose oil too (and she gives it to my dad to stop him being a miserable bugger).

Georgimama · 01/01/2010 22:40

I meant me. Is it misspemberley? Or commuter?

jaquelinehyde · 01/01/2010 22:40

DEM - just makes sure you log your name change through FB and we shall all be aware and won't have to refer to it here ever.

IggiBurns · 01/01/2010 22:42

Have just followed a MN link to a youtube video of lots of David Tennant's screen kisses. Feeling all fuzzy

Georgimama · 01/01/2010 22:42

Is there a FB group? I suppose I must prove my worth before being admitted to the inner sanctum...

DidEinsteinsMum · 01/01/2010 22:51

Cat you have just made me rofl at the miserable bugger comment.

Tis cool and resolved, just a bleary-eyed not thinking straight moment. would be very odd as sis has no kids, prefers to play fb games and dont even think she knows i hang out here (although the folks do so might have to tell her to go find the huns if she gets up duff)

Have you met the thread mascott georgimama

Jaq you make a good point and i may well do that when i am feeling the need for one of my regular name changes. I do bore far to easily but always seem to come back to this. I think cos i like the shortened DEM bit. got a few geeky ones reserved so might have to play about with those.

Iggy fly is an approach to tidying and cleaning.

DidEinsteinsMum · 01/01/2010 22:53

jaq - in my tired state can you see why i got a bit weirded out here if not sure check out fb.
