Welcome to our 36th healthy eating thread, where we will renew any healthy eating resolutions with all the viguor that the Christmas munchies require...

We chat, keep each other on track, and monitor our goals together- some on the thread have lost shed loads of weight, some are running ridiculous distances. Some, of course (like myself and Shiney, our dubious leader) have been a bit, er, remiss really. But that can all change with a New Year!

Come and introduce yourself, old and new, and let's get Mumsnet's famous Shiney Healthy Eating Thread kicked off for 2010...

I think I will order it too then, olives make my life complete.

Lizzylou · 01/01/2010 17:20

They do that, if you can have smoked salmon as well, it's a goer in my book.
It is very strict for 2 weeks and then you go onto phase 2, where more foods are intro'd, think you can then have small amounts of wholemeal pasta etc.
We need Hells!
Or the bloody book........

DidEinsteinsMum · 01/01/2010 17:25

If i remember correctly that smoke samon was banned in the first phase due to the curing process.

Lizzylou · 01/01/2010 17:26

Bugger, can you have it after 2 weeks?

DingDongBinaryOnHigh · 01/01/2010 18:02

Evening

I'm hoping the book will arrived tomorrow, but suspect it will be Monday.

My friend from LA is over to stay with us shortly, so I won't be online for a while. Will have to catch up whilst in work

DidEinsteinsMum · 01/01/2010 18:14

think so, can't remember as i was a student when i did it and smoked salmon wasnt high on the priority list. I do know ti freezes ok though.

TinselianAstra · 01/01/2010 18:15

Hi all. Went back to bed for a bit. Now up again. Making a trifle with some of my vodka-ed cherries.

Sausage and mash for dinner tonight, I think. I took a lovely honey-and-mustard-ham to a friend's house last night to eat before we went to the pub, wish I still had it, it was yummm.

Shiney I use to do slatterns cleaning (not Fly) where the point was to write things down so that at the end of the day you could feel you had achieved something, even if your list looked like this:
get up
get dressed
eat breakfast
wash hair
etc

DidEinsteinsMum · 01/01/2010 18:16

you'll be missed, hope you have alovely time with your friend!

Lizzylou · 01/01/2010 18:19

DEM, smoked salmon wouldn't normally be on the menu here, but now I have found LIdl's fab £2 pack, I have been craving smoked salmon salad........

Have fun, DIB

Hope you feel OK Trills, trifle sounds lovely

TinselianAstra · 01/01/2010 18:23

Mm, smoked salmon. (Trills doesn't actually like fishy stuff but like the idea of smoked salmon)

What's the idea behind this south beach diet you're dong anyway? Is it just a 'restrict certain types of food' or do you have limits as to how much you can eat, or things that you have to eat?

DidEinsteinsMum · 01/01/2010 18:31

The south beach is a bit like the aktins diet for the first 2 weeks and then you add in whole grain foods eg brown pasta, brown rice, oats. the whole point is to cut out the high glycemic food which are generally those loaded in sugar and carbohydrate. You arent even supposed to eat carrots the first 2 weeks!

SazzlesOnASled · 01/01/2010 18:32

DH has just started curing and smoking his own salmon. I must say i am beginning to get sick of the sight of it now , although it is delicious

DIB - have a great time with your visitor

Trills, very of sausage and mash, but i have eaten too much already today to be able to fit any in

I cannot do 'restricting' diets as i start craving what i cant't have (even if i don't really like it ) and get all arsey with the 'dictatorship'

The Lord is my friend. In a diet way

KissingUnderTheMittsletoe · 01/01/2010 18:38

So....

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

I missed nuzzling BoF's bosom.

I'm not the only one not getting any sex.......

Reality is doing a detox, esp fags and booze, and as I partake of neither, I will join you but detox from refined sugars and carbs.

There is an ongoing debate about 'fly ladies'. A friend said of my list, and I quote, 'rip the bastard up, it'll only make you fecking depressed'.
And then said make a list with only one manageable thing to do on it so you always feel as if you have achieved something.

DC's are at their Dad's and I have been painting all afternoon.

I have been to the Julian Grave's sale and stocked up on fruit and nuts for my balanced healthy eating thingy.

Love to you all, gonna paint some more and say hi again before bedtime....

xxx

DidEinsteinsMum · 01/01/2010 18:54

Hope today was a good day mitts! I make a rule that my list is allowed no more then 5 things to do on it at anyone time.

awastingamanger · 01/01/2010 19:09

DEM, yes... I'm 21...

Started snowing here now. It's very pretty etc. but I hate walking in it.

I love lists. Trills is bang on with the Slatterns thread, I can see what I've done with my day. It's also helping me develop routines, plus I nick stuff off Flylady.

Off for DS bath and bed.
May be back on after Miss Marple and knitting.
Did I mention that I'm not old at all, oh no.

rushing in before a game of minataurus with DS (actually quite fun!)

I haven't got my book here (ordered another but won't get till Mon/Tues). I have done a few searches and it seems to suggest all fish and shellfish is allowed. I can't remember about smoked salmon - and don't want to say yes when it's a no ! But it does say 'all fish' on most of the links I've found.

Will be back later and try and find more info out.

I just had steak, grilled tomatoes (drizzled with garlic olive oil) and lots of green beans for supper.. Actually feeling quite full!

hellsbelles · 01/01/2010 19:27

oh Lizzy- good news - I just found my very old book and there is a recipe for a phase 1 (which is what we are doing!)....smoked salmon frittata....so it must be fine.

Enjoy the smoked salmon Lizzy. I'll try and get back later.

bellavita · 01/01/2010 19:36

Hiya Mitts - sounds like you have had a lovely day

Cherry vodka trifle Trills - yum!

Have a lovely time with your friend DIB.

Hells - your tea sounds fab.

I have just brushed my teeth in the hope that I will not want to shove anything down my mouth in the near future,

DS2 has been out to measure the snow - 3 and a half inches has fallen!

Lizzylou · 01/01/2010 19:40

Sorry Bella, but

Hells, thank you! I will be purchasing some smoked salmon tomorrow, fab. Tonight's dinner (trout, steamed asparagus and tenderstem brocolli) was lovely.

Feel very clean and lighter inside, less sluggish (though still a lot to undo).

traceybath · 01/01/2010 19:44

Well started well today on diet front but found left over lemon tart in fridge so finished that for lunch.

Am going to weigh myself tomorrow as I know thats the only thing that will make me be good.

Have had a good day of sorting out old clothes though.

Going to watch Doctor Who in a minute and fear I may cry.

We've no snow (am near Bath) but I don't want any as we get cut off too easily and I need to go and buy food tomorrow.

bellavita · 01/01/2010 19:45
  • I probably wouldn't get the chance anyway Lizzy
bellavita · 01/01/2010 19:46

Tracey - we have got the Dr on in our house - I don't see the attaction to the programme myself but DH and the boys are glued to the tv.

traceybath · 01/01/2010 19:48

Oh I love Dr Who and especially love David Tennant - I even listened twice to him on desert island discs

Lizzylou · 01/01/2010 19:49

Aw Bella, you never know! Don't shave your legs/armpits/bikini line and you'll be well away, you know, when you least expect it.

Mitts, enjoy your painting, am so at you being so talented.

We had snow for ages, but mainly just on the hills now, Tracey. It did lose it's appeal after a while tbh.
