Please get yourself down there

I know it isn't the most enjoyable or exciting 10 minutes of your life, but hey, once you do it then it 3 years before you have to do that 10 minutes again.

Don't put it off. Things get in the way, but just get it done.

I am speaking from bitter experience so humour me please.

Thank you

As you were

Max - I don't think you can have one when pg. I let you off the hook until some months after the birth

Congrats by the way Smile

Maxpower - at least 4 months post-natal for the test please. The difference in hormone levels makes the cells more difficult to read.

oh poo.

Casmama · 21/08/2010 23:25

Oh bugger - I had my last smear at my six week postnatal check - do I need to have it again Bela?

BelaLugosiNoir · 21/08/2010 23:42

Have you had your result through Casmama? They're not impossible to read, just a bit more tricky and take a bit longer to look at because the cells tend to be smaller. So we prefer to get them more post natal IYSWIM.

Casmama · 21/08/2010 23:57

Sorry just saw your response - yes ds will be one next week. I don't remember getting results but assume that I did and it was all clear - will check though thanks.

Just bumping this to remind people.

I had mine on Monday at the fpc. Cheeky mare of a doc had to get a 'bigger speculum'. She assures me it was because she was removing my coil at the same time and needed a better view. I think she was being disparaging personally but I was half naked with a speculum up me, wasn't about to start arguing the toss.

Anyway, all over in 30 seconds, results back in 2-4 weeks.

Get yours booked if you haven't.

Whoamireally · 08/09/2010 15:29

LoL at needing a bigger speculum Grin

Do FPC's still exist?

Anyway, guilty as charged. And I should know better as have had to have loop diathermy in the past. I'm on yearly checks - presumably for life. I manage to stretch each one out to about 18 months Grin I'll get booked in.

Tippychoocks · 08/09/2010 18:01

Had my first one at the grannd ol' age of 31 a couple of weeks ago. Didn't hurt, took seconds. Letter came through saying all was well within a week and a bit.
It's nowhere near as bad as you might think.

BelaLugosiNoir · 08/09/2010 21:23

SoH - the screening programme is supposed to have a 14 day turnaround time by the end of 2010 and many areas have already achieved this, so don't be worried if you get it back quicker than 4 weeks!

A1980 · 08/09/2010 23:56

I can't beleive anyone avoids them.... there's nothing to it.

AnxiousLand · 09/09/2010 00:08

i have hada letter to go about 3 weeks ago.
The last time was about 6 months ago because the time before that i had abnormal cells that had to quarterised.
It takes about 40 minuted as i am soo tight lol

AnxiousLand · 09/09/2010 00:09

and a tilted pelvis doent help either

SweetBeadieRussell · 09/09/2010 10:05

Me. Had a letter through a few months ago and thought 'really better get on to it, although I don't want to.' I don't like the nurse at the surgery, either. She's always really couldn't give a shit when the dds have their jabs, and i don't really fancy having her treating my fanjo the same way. But i will book it. I know I have to.

BelaLugosiNoir · 09/09/2010 21:24

SBR - you can also have one at the FPC, GU or a well woman clinic if there's one in your area.

lostmyreligion · 09/09/2010 22:55

hi, i've been lurking here for a while now. Finally went for smear. Had cin 3. Totally freaked out. had treatment need to go back, or rather should of done 2 months ago but scared. Will go soon tho. just wanted to ask anyone had loop treatment and gone on to have children? Can you carry a baby after loop excision? Thanks x
