Please get yourself down there

I know it isn't the most enjoyable or exciting 10 minutes of your life, but hey, once you do it then it 3 years before you have to do that 10 minutes again.

Don't put it off. Things get in the way, but just get it done.

I am speaking from bitter experience so humour me please.

Thank you

As you were

I don't think there's a sexual health clinic near me? I'll just try again with wine

biggirlsdontcry · 25/10/2009 18:44

i haven't had one in 6years , i had a terrible experience the last smear i had & it was a man doing the test & he was very rough , the pain was terrible & the test was ruined as i had a bad bleed , i know i need to get over it though .

jmontan27 · 25/10/2009 20:17

I can empathise with those too scared to have one both for fear of the results and for fear of the pain. I had my first one this year and I'm in my mid 30s with 3 dcs. Had really horrible birth experiences with all dcs so didn't want any more instrumental intrusion in that dept. However, I'm afraid I was influenced by seeing Jade Goody's sons on the front of all the tabloids at the time and didn't want my sons to go through the same thing, so put on a brave face and went.

I am scared of Drs and have health anxiety so I went to my local family planning clinic for it. I made sure I took a neurofen before
hand (think I may have had some alcohol as well ), and tbh it was nowhere near as bad as I thought. Results took 3 months (!!) to come back but that was only because of the huge backlog after the rush post Jade.

Anyway, I guess what I'm trying to say is, even if you're terrified, it isn't as bad as you think

back in the world of internet access bump

TheHappyCamper · 30/10/2009 12:29

Right ladies
I have just had mine. It was dead easy! The nurse was lovely and I told her I was a bit nervous after a bad labour and forceps then emcs. She had a chat with me and it was all done and dusted in about 2 minutes

Hope this helps those who are also nervous xx

NormaBatesFeltcher · 30/10/2009 21:57

Oh well done

NormaStanleyFletcher · 21/08/2010 10:31

Thought I would bump this again.

Just had my follow up results after treatment, and it was clear. Smile

Anybody who has been putting it off - get thyself down there.

I had a letter two months ago and am waiting until DDs are all back at school and nursery so that I can go without an audience.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 21/08/2010 17:23

Hey Reality. Am I to gather that you jumped the broomstick?

I have just returned from holiday in Scotland, but apart from that have been at work (where internet is limited to TFL and the home office Hmm

I may get mobile internet working at some point and mumsnet from the train Grin

Well done Ella, get it re-booked!

NormaStanleyFletcher · 21/08/2010 17:30

Monday. Do it. I will be hassling you Wink

LibertyGibbet · 21/08/2010 17:32

I'm having mine on Monday. I don't worry about the procedure, just the results.

Have always had clear tests so far. Had the last one 2.5 years ago but am about to start ttc and want a smear first.

Am already anxious about it. But I'm going.

CatIsSleepy · 21/08/2010 17:33

oh i am way overdue
have had all sorts of letters

can't bear the nurse at our surgery though and am finding that rather off-putting

NormaStanleyFletcher · 21/08/2010 17:37

Liberty - I had colposcopy [sp] last year after an abnormal smear, and so was dreading this last one, but it came back clear. And if there is a problem it is better to find it sooner rather than later Smile

Cat - there is some advice further up the thread about getting smears done at a sexual health clinic.

Done! Over and done with in 2 mins flat. Seriously.

Everyone - just do it!!!

NormaStanleyFletcher · 21/08/2010 19:46

BelaLugosiNoir · 21/08/2010 20:50

Catissleepy - you can also have a cervical screening test at FPCs or well woman clinics if that would help.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 21/08/2010 21:09

Thanks Bela - I thought that was the case, but didn't want to say so in case I was wrong

OP posts:
maxpower · 21/08/2010 21:12

I am putting it off but only because I'm pg - told the midwife at my booking appt I'd need one booked for after I've had the baby just to make sure I don't miss it.
