Revolutionaries of The Shiney Path - The Gorillas In Our Midst Eat Healthily

1007 replies

BitOfFun · 02/10/2009 19:59

Welcome to our 22nd Healthy Eating thread under the auspicious eye of Shiney the Cult Leader. She is vegetarian (like a gorilla), but you don't have to be! Or hairy!

I may be getting distracted by my over-cryptic thread title (it is hard when all the obvious ones have been done- fwiw The Shining Path are a South American guerrilla group and I'm looking at watching Che on dvd later, what can I say...), but I have been appointed Tsar With Authority for Titles, and starting this on a Friday night may be ill-judged, BUT...

We are here with the aim of eating healthily, losing weight in varying amounts if that is what we wish, and most of all posting as often as we're able to support each other. We have a good laugh too. Allegedly. But we're no trouble, no siree...

New-comers very welcome, just introduce yourselves and pile in!

Mmmm, I love carrot cake with frosting on top.

Salsavita · 03/10/2009 16:27

Trill, I have used bottled lemon juice when I don't have fresh lemons. Yes, it is me that makes stuff for DH's work, but cannot take any credit for doing it just recently though.

TrillianSlasher · 03/10/2009 16:29

Maybe a lemon drizzle cake then...

I wish I could make neautiful cakes, I am essentially an adequate but not distinguished or decorative cakemaker. Luckily most of my friends don't make any kind of cake, so they are impressed and appreciative when I do.

Someone posted a recipe for jaffa cake flavoured muffins the other day (not on this thread, would be very naughty) but we don't have any marmalade.

TrillianSlasher · 03/10/2009 17:05

Lemon drizzle cake now in oven.

I'd like to remind you all that I am maintianing weight not losing, so I am allowed cake. Plus going to work and then to friend's in the evening means I cycled nearly 10 miles yesterday.

TheMitsubishiWarrioress · 03/10/2009 17:16

Lemon Drizzle cake is, in my opinion almost as divine as home made apple pie....

I think trolling of an emotional nature is unbearably cruel, the 'poly' one made my brain melt though...

I have used MN for some emotional issues (and am doing now) but try to use it as objectively as possible. I find I can write my fears and thoughts where I can not speak them in RL, which is why I am i the bloody mess that I am. And the advice and encouragement I have received is one of the things that is encouraging me to go for counselling. I didn't name change because firstly I mess it up and secondly some of the stuff I wanted advice on seems so odd in my head I thought I might be accused of trolling.

Some peoples arrogance and judgementalism makes me want to spit or choke with indignation though. Especially where affairs of the heart are concerned..

3 hrs gardening this morning at DD's school...very invigorating. Just can't apply myself in my own garden lol. Offset the 3 bacon butties I had that the kitchen were supplying

SqueezyCheese · 03/10/2009 17:20

I tried to make scones once and they turned out like really hard concrete pancakes Don't know what I did wrong. I do make mean shortbread though, the smell is insanely gorgeous.

I haven't been able to catch up with X Factor properly due to my connection being crap, constantly buffering, Grrr. Can anyone tell me who got which groups?

TrillianSlasher · 03/10/2009 17:24

Mmm, bacon butties + gardening is a great combo. You need the protein to build strong muscles.

Don't do X-factor here, sorry.

TheMitsubishiWarrioress · 03/10/2009 17:46

I used to cook in a residential home and the ressies used to say that they used my dumplings to sink the Bismark...

Salsavita · 03/10/2009 17:55

Squeezy - I am pretty certain it is Louis Walsh.

BewareTheFullMoon · 03/10/2009 18:07

Are they plain cheese scones or cheese and basil? loooovve cheese and basil scons but that doesnt really fit with the no dairy diet requirement cheese scones or painful joints? not really a choice is it.

Mum's pasty is so heavy it would break your foot if you dropped it.

My kicthen diaster this week was....

...drum roll....

...burnt hard boiled eggs.

it has not been a good week.

TheMitsubishiWarrioress · 03/10/2009 18:13

'burnt hard boiled eggs...'

BewareTheFullMoon · 03/10/2009 18:20

I can assure you that it is one smell that you dont want to be smelling

But it doesnt beat my ultimate kitchen disater - charcoaled golden syrup. It was literally a lump of black charcoal in the bottom of the pan and the smoke was thick black and acrid.

I am like the little girl with the curl in the kitchen. When i'm good i am very good, when I am bad it is a disater!

TrillianSlasher · 03/10/2009 18:22

Boiled dry?

BewareTheFullMoon · 03/10/2009 18:25

The eggs? yep til the inside egg white had gone black where it was in contact with the pan.

StrictlySazz · 03/10/2009 18:25

You are in good company FullMoon - i burnt boiled eggs last week too . I can still smell the buggers

DH is currently creating in the kitchen. Goodness only knows what we are having for dinner. Hopefully taste is directly prportional to taste, in which case we should be ok

TrillianSlasher · 03/10/2009 18:26

Eww, yuck.

(by the way who are you in this Halloween disguise?)

StrictlySazz · 03/10/2009 18:27

or even proportional to 'mess'

one handed typing is my excuse

BewareTheFullMoon · 03/10/2009 18:37

me? i is DEM and have been hiding out recently too.

Salsavita · 03/10/2009 18:38

Blimey burnt boiled eggs and golden syrup

I once put the pressure cooker on and forgot to put the water in the bottom! Now that was burnt.

Just had chicken and king prawn stir fry with noodles. Yum.

hellsbelles · 03/10/2009 18:49

I see this is possibly a diet thread - yet reading through it is making me starving and ready to go and eat a big cake? Is this is a special new type of dieting that I haven't heard of yet? It sounds like one I could definitely do - can I join in?

I've just ordered a thai takeaway and poured out a nice glass of wine so I think/hope I might be doing well already?

That should put you off the cake

hellsbelles · 03/10/2009 19:04

slimeoncrazydemon - the name may seem familiar because I have become addicted to MN over the last few weeks and have been posting too much a lot (rather boringly though - I seem to morph into a bit of a nerd type on MN - though of course in RL I'm wildly entertaining )

Right - takeaway has just arrived - better go.

Salsavita · 03/10/2009 19:09

May have to leave you in favour of the quick step girlies... back later x
