Yoou have to have some sandwiches on display to make the parents happy, but really they just want to eat crisps and cake.

One of my nigella books has a whole section on doing kids party food, do you want me to dig it out?

bellavita · 13/09/2009 15:16

Don't do too much shiney, it will go to waste.

Okay, Nigella's tips for kids party food (paraphrased by Trill):

*kids will be excited, won't eat much, don't bother with a million different things
*icing is more important than the quality of the cake underneath
*once you know how to do a couple of things, do them every time
*don't try to make parents happy, try to make your child happy
*don't worry about the massive amounts of sugar/salt/artificial colours - it's a party

Rocky Road choc bars always go down well

Mini sauseages, crisps, cherry tomatoes, pizza slices.

TrillianAstra · 13/09/2009 15:26

Do a million cocktail sausages.

Crisps in the shape of bacon slices apparently.

For making lots and lots of sandwiches, mix the butter and filling so you don't have to spread everything twice.

I assume you don't actually want any recipes that involve flour and stuff like that.

TrillianAstra · 13/09/2009 15:27

Cold pizza is a good one.

Hi... wow this thread moves REALLY fast! Thank you.. Shiney.. I think it was... for welcoming me and did I pick up that someone thought they had a conversation with me about duck eggs?? [there isn't a confused smiley!!]

TrillianAstra · 13/09/2009 15:32

Cheese and pineapple is quite fiddly and annoying to do. You need the cheapest cheddar for it, the rubbery sort. Nicer cheddar is too crumbly.

Cheese and little pickled onions on sticks is good too.

TrillianAstra · 13/09/2009 15:32

Hi chickandduck - I assume it's a Friends reference?

TrillianAstra · 13/09/2009 15:42

FiveGoMadInDorset · 13/09/2009 15:43

TrillianAstra · 13/09/2009 15:43

Greetings, just got out of bed after 2 day sickness (labyrinthitis - need to get sick with something I can spell next time). And have now read about 40 pages of this thread, so need to go back to bed! Is being sick an excuse for eating chocolate spread on toast, I wonder??
