For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I have eaten slimy vacuum packed banana. They are quite unusual.

Guadalupe · 26/05/2009 19:07

Pointy - Although I think that lady was just thrilled that her child's excema was cured, it must be hideous to keep trying things for years and listen to every other bugger exclaiming their miracle cure. I really hope your dd gets some relief from it soon.

pointydog · 26/05/2009 19:10

oh they are slimy? I thought they might have gone a bit crispy.

FrannyandZooey · 26/05/2009 19:11

ds2's problem quite minor now and still it is tricky when very well meaning and helpful people recommend things for you to try
it's fine if they just say "oh we used this and it helped", but usually they tell you and then next time you mention the eczema they say "did you not try the....?"
i can see why they do this of course, but we have spent literally hundreds of pounds now on different things and as i say a lot of them made it worse
people suggest new things to me every week, i am not going to try them all (probably might if it hadn't have improved though )

FrannyandZooey · 26/05/2009 19:13

yes, fran. That's what it's like. We muddle along fine most of the time, it's not a big deal at all in teh scheme of things. I just like to know the science, I like to know why something might work.

SuperBunny · 26/05/2009 20:24

The vacuum fried bananas aren't slimy - they're crisp and crunchy but more puffy than banana chips. They're really delicious.

Molly so sorry it didn;t work out...hope telling DS goes OK.

I do quite vividly remember Tenpole Tudor on TOTP and have donned my velvet breeches and big floppy white shirt in homage.

The Born Slippy title is genius though and we must rip it off pay Each Peach large royalties in teh form of vacuumy slimed bananas or whatever they are.

Stuffit I do hope you can join us

Not sure how it is 10 o' clock already...but I have a day off tomorrow hurrah

FrannyandZooey · 26/05/2009 22:25

i've got 26 people signed up

pink i checked bfn website for ibuprofen the other day and it is fine

about the eczema cures - don't getme wrong, i am really grateful when people suggest things
a lurker suggested the barrier spray that has worked the best so far, and when lemur suggested cavelon and i read about it, i thought we would cure it for sure! except we didn't...anyway, the suggestions are fab - it is people's insistence that this is the cure and you must try it

FrannyandZooey · 26/05/2009 22:26

littlerach i think they might suss you have already registered your address
try it though and tell us

TooTicky · 26/05/2009 22:34

Tatties · 26/05/2009 23:06

Right Pink you've got me signed up now

Guadalupe · 26/05/2009 23:14

Fk - You do make me laugh!

Mmm, I had shiki bento box with prawn and seaweed salad, miso soup, sushi and sashimi, tempura veg, calamari and teriyaki salmon and lots of little salads with delicious dressings.

I actually went to weightwatchers first and dominated the meeting with my tips and guffaws about how the leaders tips don't work (to her annoyance) and had only lost half a pound and I expect that is gone after the dinner anyway.

List list, I have a long list I think. Too tired to do it though.

SuperBunny · 27/05/2009 00:42

Strawberries
2 Kiwis (1)
Juice
Apple & Pear
Raisins
Veg soup
Banana thingies

FrannyandZooey · 27/05/2009 08:18

i am off to work
on subject of weightloss i seem to be stuck again and there is a pair of trousers i would really like to fit into without the sizeable muffin top i have now
i suspect bakery products are to blame
i am 10/10ing for all i am worth but also managing to fit in quite a lot of extra curriculars

Buda · 27/05/2009 08:40

Morning all!

Thank you for the links to wild tortoises! Hmm. Speedy is not like that. He is nice and calm. Am about to ask DH's long suffering secretary to translate a note into Hungarian for me so I can pop it in neighbours' letterboxes. It will give her a giggle anyway!

Didn't do too well yesterday:

strawberries
apple
cherry tomatoes
salad
peppers
spring onion

And then I had too much wine many grapes so am feeling a bit fragile this morning to say the least. Book club night always involves a hangover the next day.

Mind you I am not as bad as DH who is still in bed having missed a presentation by his boss this morning - he got home around 4am. He is in shock. In the 22 years I have known him he has NEVER not made it into work. His secretary rang looking for him and when I tried to wake him he was totally confused and thought it was Saturday!

franny - I can imagine it must be soul-destroying to not be able to do something about your DS. My DS had excema as a baby but we were able to quickly figure out that in his case it was a dairy allergy. He is now nearly 8 and eats dairy with no problems but does occasionally get itchy skin. I have a friend in UK whose DS had it badly as a baby but grew out of it but her DD had problems for much longer and she used to get angry at people touting cures. The one thing they did notice that helped her DD was when they went up to Scotland on holidays and it eased a lot then so I think environmental factors played a part with her. She is now 12 and her skin is much improved. I think it is amazing really how little is known about excema and its causes. It can be caused by so many different things and what works wonders for one person may exacerbate things for another as you have found.

I am now finally able to face breakfast I think but it may have to be peanut butter on toast. I will make up a bowl of fruit salad later.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 27/05/2009 09:08

MORNING BUDA, HOW'S THE HEAD?! Sorry, was I shouting?

Ah, the eternal battle of losing weight. I do seem to be (very) slowly losing weight, and I don't think it's a coincidence that Baby Lemur doesn't feed as much. My body seems to do everything a different way round to most people. I lose weight when pg, then put on weight when bf'ing (aided my mass cake consumption whilst stuck on sofa for hours on end), then lose weight when I'm not feeding as much.

I could kick myself for putting on weight again, but now Baby Lemur only has a few feeds a day I've got no excuse to shift the lard.

Buda · 27/05/2009 09:16

That's not nice! Headache gone now actually. So there!
