For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

LR - another firepit owner here. It is seriously the nicest, most used present I ever had

I'm back, as youcan see
I' have never, ever been more terrified by a situation in all my life.

I think DH and I can sleep soundly knowing we have done our utmost. If we don't get it, it won't be for lack of trying.

Guadalupe · 11/05/2009 12:36

When will you find out, Molly?

littlerach · 11/05/2009 13:25

Fingers and all crossed for you Molly.

So what do you all burn on your fire pits then?

We used charcoal BbQ stuff but I guess you can burn anyhting
Do yuo cook on them?

All the ash is now whirling round the garden as it is so damned windy here.

Poor TT's fur is all of a flutter. He deosn't suit the windswept look

Boco · 11/05/2009 13:31

Good luck Molly!

Caramelised onion hummus is the best thing in the whole weld ever.

Guadalupe · 11/05/2009 13:54

I don't like that one, I find it too sickly. Lemon and coriander is nice.

The builder has cemented the entire fireplace in and I don't like it. The green spacer tiles that he chose and I agreed looked okay colourwise when looking at the two side by side, do not look okay in a column together as the green looks stripey when repeated next to the main flower one and not right At All. It must be uncemented and started all over again.

I think he might want to cement me in there actually but honestly, surely you would wait to check that it looks okay before fixing it in? Duh. I expect I am paying for his time too.

Another man is coming to enamel the bath and a french polisher is coming for the floors and in a week EDF are moving their stuff and the plumber is going to crack on and maybe, just maybe, we might start to move in before the end of May.

Boco · 11/05/2009 13:57

Lol Guad. You should perhaps email one of us the address so that if you disappear from 10/10 we can send help to try and get you unplastered.

Boco · 11/05/2009 14:03

You don't have floors french polished though do you?

SuperBunny · 11/05/2009 14:05

OOo, a badger, how exciting! I used to go badger watching [nerd] They are very interesting animals.

I want a fire pit. It won't work in a 7th floor studio though.

Boco · 11/05/2009 14:15

Have you ever stuffed one SB? Wasn't it you who is the amateur taxidermist? [shields cat]

SuperBunny · 11/05/2009 14:23

Yes, that's me! Never done a badger though.

SuperBunny · 11/05/2009 14:33

It was for conservation/ education purposes though - your pets are safe!

FrannyandZooey · 11/05/2009 14:40

we burn wood just for fun (ds collects sticks everywhere we go, to have a bit of a blaze to sit around on a winter afternoon or something, and then when cooking we use the bbq coals stuff

ds2 likes quinoa [proud]
well he ate some, anyway

You. Have. Stuffed. A. Dead. Animal?

Just the thought of it makes me feel a bit queer.

FrannyandZooey · 11/05/2009 15:07

have you ever stuffed a lemur?

OP posts:
TheMitsubishiWarrioress · 11/05/2009 15:17

I was gently interrogating DS because he has an interesting concept of truth somwtimes, but he said to look in the little woody bit near our house and at our fence and there are definately large animal indications...

Lol at Lemur....come and jump in my pocket. I can think of one or two paople I might like to have stuffed for entertainment purposes.... evil ......

Anyone get nightmares?
Nearly every night and even if I fall asleep during the day (as I just have), and the feeling is horrible. They are those real life ones that are hard to shake.

Have an image of Guad being cemented into the fireplace and just her arms and legs flapping about....lol

Sorry Guad. Not awake properly yet.......

mollyroger · 11/05/2009 16:13

Guad we find out the day before my birthday at end of May. so that's nice...

Annnyhooo.

wE use BBQ charocal to cook on and collect bits of wood when we are out and about to burn for fun...(we get thru' a lot of marshmallows )
And when our cherry tree gets pruned down each year, I chop up bits to keep. Takes about a year for it to season but smells lovely when it burns.
I am a total pyromaniac and i wish we had more places outdoors where it was 'acceptable' to have a wee fire.

Ninjacat · 11/05/2009 16:17

Really trying now but still finding this difficult. Three days no chocolate though so that has to be plus.

Apple
Beetroot
lettuce
Cucumber
spring onion

Still one more meal to go......

PS. another fire pit owner here.

littlerach · 11/05/2009 16:25

NiNja, that's v good eating.
You can always snack on fruit, or dried fruit also.

My mum and sd are always having fires. he chops, she burns. They have a lot of trees in their garden, fortunatley
I can remember making fires when a yoof, probably v illegally so.

Raisins
tomatoes

Off to work in a bit. Boo.

FrayedKnot · 11/05/2009 17:07

Ooh, LR what a lovely present

Molly, well done mate

Does anyone here take or has taken St John's Wort? Someone has recommended it to me for PMS.

Guadalupe · 11/05/2009 17:07

Well, I would look better than this ghastly tile combination, MW, that's for sure. It reminds me of some stripey mint. Is it an everton?

Boco - I don't think he's going to french polish the floors but he is/was a french polisher according to dh and now he does floors so he's coming. I don't really know what a french polish is tbh, other than the rude type, so it amused me to say it.

I am eating sugar loaf pineapple and it's bloody delicious. Much sweeter than the normal type. It's white and more pitted.

Guadalupe · 11/05/2009 17:09

I had some in a tincture from a herbalist once, FK, but it was mixed up with other stuff. Seemed to help. Bizarrely a bush grew in the back garden of it's own accord shortly afterwards but I suspect this is not connected.

mollyroger · 11/05/2009 17:23

FK I have taken it the past and it worked for me. (mild depression)
It is also supposed to be good for menopaulsal symptoms.
You do need to
a) make sure you are not on pill and not on any other antidepressant.
b) Be careful in very sunny weather - it can, rarely, cause photosensitivity. Ie if you get a rash, stop taking the St John;s wort.
c) Give it a couple of weeks to 'kick in'
d) Make sure you don't take it on an empty stomach as it made fee feel incredibly queasy,

If it is PMT type hormones which are causing you grief, look into a good vitamin B complex as this can alleviate some of the physical and mental symptoms associated with pmt.

TheMitsubishiWarrioress · 11/05/2009 17:55

Rofl at Guad's post...'bizarrely a bush grew in the back grden of it's own accord.....'

FK, have used it to good effect from time to time. Molly speaks good words on it though. Hiding works for me also, about 3 0r 4 days, with emergency supplies and a big 'LEAVE ME ALONE' sign.

Also, or alternatively, strong dose oill of evening primrose/starflower oil.

SuperBunny · 11/05/2009 18:05

Actually, I didn't stuff the animal. I removed the innards and mounted it on a board so you could bee what it looks like and touch the fur. It's no worse than stuffing a chicken or something.

Tortellini soup (but DS ate the tortellini so I just had the soupy bit) [2 perhaps]
