For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Sorry to disappoint TooT

FlappytheBat · 09/05/2009 23:59

ok, think I will just stay as a soft toy bat, now that is definitely cute and cuddly.

don't feel such a failure, might just add grapes onto my list and that will bring my total up to 6!

SuperBunny · 10/05/2009 00:04

I will join you with the grapes.

FlappytheBat · 10/05/2009 00:16

but my grapes have fermented and are now of the liquid variety

really don't think I can count them!

FrannyandZooey · 10/05/2009 07:18

hello flappy
slightly offputting abbreviation to your name isn't it
perhaps i am just projecting my own post natal anxieties though

anyway please make yourself at home except for the weeing thing
and would you be so kind as to READ THE OP including the links
because no-one ever does, then we have hours of 'do nuts count' type questions

I missed Wombling Will you be doing it again?

pointydog · 10/05/2009 10:23

flappy, I struggle to reach 6 portionsbut it doesn't matter because you are only told to fuck off if you reach or exceed the target.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 10/05/2009 10:29

Happy Mommies Day SB

What my children eat:

dd1 - on a sandwich: peanut butter, cheese, no butter on it ever, no meat on a sandwich, no salad either. Will not have steak pie or chicken pie or any savoury pie. Hates mince in anything, so she won't have spag bol, lasagne, mince n tatties, chilli con carne. Hates bananas. Likes a wide enough range of fruit and veg that i never struggle to buy different stuff. Loves omelette. Loves tomatoes. Overall, not that bothered about food.

dd2 - on a sandwich: chicken or ham with cucumber, always butter (Poor these days). Hates peanut butter. Loves steak/chicken pies. Loves mince, spag bol etc. Loves bananas. Likes a wide range of f & v. Not keen on omelettes. Hates tomatoes. Adores food, takes a great interest, loves planning what to have for school dinners, much quicker to like new foods.

Isn't it annoying how one child's loves often clash with another's hates.

Guadalupe · 10/05/2009 10:56

DD won't eat butter and generally moans about something on her plate but mostly eats all of it. Ds1 eats everything except bananas and ds2 eats everything if he feesl like it and nothing if he doesn't. They are fairly easy.

I ate WAY too much last night. There were bilinis with smoked salmon, homemade pizza, Broccoli and Binham blue tarts (from me), the most delicious chilli olives, parma ham, mozarella, artickoke and cherry tomatoes, an enormous cheese board with brie and applewood my favourite, a lamb dish with spinach and a lovely sweet sauce that I thought would have been perfect with a sprinkle of pomegranate seeds but I didn't say this, fresh bread, chocolate cake, wine.

The worst thing is I came home at midnight and ate two chocolate brownies and watched Dracula Prince of Darkness from behind a cushion. I feel I have eaten enough for the next week except I am starving this morning. Dh has been sent out to buy tropical fruits. I wish he would hurry up.

Guadalupe · 10/05/2009 10:59

so eating dinner before I went was a really good idea

mollyroger · 10/05/2009 11:02

I always fdeel especially hungry the morning after a huge meal the night before...

I ate my own bodyweight in spinach and chickpea curry last night, onion bahjis, pickles, and veggie side dishes last night. Followed by fruit tart.

Guadalupe · 10/05/2009 11:07

What have you had this morning?

mollyroger · 10/05/2009 11:08

4 seedy riveta with honey; grapes, melon, banana, raisins....

I want a fry up

Guadalupe · 10/05/2009 11:09

Mmm, I need chickpea and spinach curry and I want it with lime pickle and some yoghurt and a naan bread.

We are having chicken for lunch. I will spit it and do salsa, potatoes, salad and corn on the cob.

Guadalupe · 10/05/2009 11:09

I love ryvita. Never had it with fruit though.

Guadalupe · 10/05/2009 11:11

I have a mean apple and some grapes. I am waiting for ready cut pineapple melon mango and pomegranates to fall through the door.

mollyroger · 10/05/2009 11:12

no no, the fruit was extra. On it own. the riveta was just with butter honey!
I am now addicted to riveta with sunflower seeds and oats.

Guadalupe · 10/05/2009 11:15

Ah. I like ryvita with egg mayo, cress and red onion, or tuna with lemon capers and parsley, or cheese and chutney. I am trying not to eat butter atm.

Guadalupe · 10/05/2009 11:17

but I would enjoy a ryvita spread thickly with butter very much indeed.

It's a lovely day here. We could go out. Thing is I am supposed to be moving in a few weeks and I have done nothing to pack up my house. It is quite overwhelming.

mollyroger · 10/05/2009 11:20

oh, I hate that feeling.

I am MNinng between taking down dictation from DH who has turned into Gerry MGguire, preparing for the school appeal tomorrow. He is pacing with a Handbook and every now and again he shouts ''Aha!!'' and I have to go typey typey.
I am rabbit in headlights scared and unable to contribute anything.

Guadalupe · 10/05/2009 11:20

Oh, fruit delivery is here. Goodbye.

Guadalupe · 10/05/2009 11:21

oh, sorry xposts!

Good luck with your appeal. It sounds very stressful.
