Leg Pains at night..... Dr is testing for Bone and Prostate Cancer......Am very scared

RTKangaMummy · 29/04/2005 22:59

DH has been having leg pain and lower back pain for last 2 weeks.

Dr thought it was Sciatica and slipped disc. But not now.

But as DH has the pain worse at night it is a symptom of cancer.

So today saw GP again and he immediatley sent him for blood tests at hospital

We are going again to GP on Tuesday.

I am really scared that he has prostate cancer and it has spread to bones in pelvis and left leg. So therefore has secondary bone cancer.

He doesn't have the back pain any more just in the leg.

Has anybody had any experiance of this?

Please help me?

Oh, darling, how did I miss this? As if you don't have enough to worry about.

There's nothing I can add to anything that's already, but if there is anything I can do, please, please please let me know.

Thinking of you and sending lots and lots of hugs

RTKM, haven't read all this thread, so sorry if I'm repeating someone else, but sciatica is defined as pain in the LEG. It commonly does not associate with back pain though it can, and it's common for the back pain to go away. It is also common for pain to be experienced worse at night, as the sufferer has nothing to distract him. Your GP is right to do the blood tests, but don't panic yet. What your DH needs is an MRI scan of his back, first and foremost, even if his blood tests come up psitive, and especially if they don't.

btw, "prolapsed" means the same as "slipped". There is no difference.

Oh - DH's GP told him there was a difference, that a slipped disc was sort of the start of a full prolapse and could be corrected with physio but the prolapsed disc needed surgery.

docincognito · 02/05/2005 18:47

sorry, skimming down the thread...you cannot be sure he hasn't a slipped disc unless he has had an MRI.

docincognito · 02/05/2005 18:48

that's bollox, SG, but don't worry, GP's often get it wrong!

Report
SaintGeorge · 02/05/2005 18:51

Ah well, either way he had the surgery and is pretty much ok now. Will never be spot on now he has a disc (or is it just part of a disc?) missing but at least no more pain.

Hope they get an MRI rushed through soon RTKM.

RTK -sorry I've missed this thread. Sending positive wishes to you both and a ((((((((hug))))))))

Don't worry about the excessive tiredness - if he's having such disturbed nights he's bound to be feeling exhausted and the additional worry of what might be causing it won't be helping him either. Don't worry about the 6 month wait they say there is for an MRI scan - if they're concerned about him then it'll be done within weeks not months. More than anything you need to know what you're dealing with.

On a positive note my neighbour had months of pain in her left side with dreadful liver function tests etc. Her GP said he couldn't rule out liver cancer and arranged a very rapid scan - it turned out to be gall stones but her symptoms were not typical of this at all which is why they were ruled out initially. I know her symptoms were not the same as your DH but just trying to say there can be many reasons for symptoms not matching what doctors think they should - the human body is a funny thing and behaves oddly at times.

Hope it goes well tomorrow.
