For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

oH, IN th time it took me to write that, everyone else came in with far better suggestions and a discussion on quiche

Guadalupe · 29/04/2009 18:00

Yes, shop bought is the worst. Deep filled wobbly blancmangey pap with a soggy base and a sniff of cheese.

Good quiche is one of my favourite foods. I like goats cheese and sundried tomato, or butternut squash and garlic, or salmon and dill, any flavour really as long as it's done right.

TooTicky · 29/04/2009 18:01

IT IS ONE MINUTE TO SIX AND ALL IHAVE DONE IS OPENED A TIN OF BEANS AND WASHED UP

You are all very very right. Willyou come and organise me?

SuperBunny · 29/04/2009 18:01

TooT, I think I'd cater for the littlies - make whatever they will eat and if the big ones don't want it they can have bread, or toast or make something else. I think DD1 is old enough to make stuff and maybe even DS1.

SuperBunny · 29/04/2009 18:03

Quiche is always the veg option at here. You know, you won't eat our meat so you must eat a great big wobbly pile and room-temperate eggs with orange cheese on soggy pastry. Yes. I once politely declined but then the lady picked up a piece with her fingers and shoved it on my plate anyway and sat and watched while I gipped ate it

Guadalupe · 29/04/2009 18:04

I am afraid, Toot, you will just have to get on and do it yourself. Beans in pan, tip on toast. Throw a tomato at them and send to bed. Wash up. Pour wine. Watch tv.

Guadalupe · 29/04/2009 18:05

Yuk at orange cheese, unless it's the rind of a smoked applewood.

Boco · 29/04/2009 18:05

The deli and cafe in the village does home made brie and herb tart, and garlic and potato pie, and goats cheese and red onion tart, and chocolate and nut pie - and they're all amazing. Guad when we're rich we should go there for lunch you'd like it. But the service is v. basil fawlty as they hate customers, but if you can concentrate on the food is v. nice.

Guadalupe · 29/04/2009 18:05

Though I suppose that is brown. Burnt orange maybe.

Guadalupe · 29/04/2009 18:07

Well, we will go there and ignore them and admire our own charming company and eat everything. It sounds delicious.

FrannyandZooey · 29/04/2009 18:08

i'm eating filthy shop bought quiche
i never learn

Guadalupe · 29/04/2009 18:10

Is it very filthy? If those are the only option then I find overcooking them helps and then you can use them as a sort of scoop for the rest of your nice stuff.

Boco · 29/04/2009 18:10

In a way the service is part of the charm. The old lady who runs it and is amazing cook, looks at you as if to say 'what the FUCK are you doing just walking in and sitting down in my cafe? FUCK OFF!' We sometimes go and chuckle as she slams things down and rolls her eyes.

FrannyandZooey · 29/04/2009 18:11

it is fairly filthy, yes, but i am hungry and there are lots of other things on my plate as well thank god

SuperBunny · 29/04/2009 18:13

Boco, I want to go there!

Will the be quiche at the meetup?

FrannyandZooey · 29/04/2009 18:22

have eaten it
it was kind of congealed bits of wobbly custard separating from the pastry which was soggy and salty, with the world's soggiest tomatoes, like little lumps of hot red water
it was reduced to a pound in M+S
i love a bargain

TooTicky · 29/04/2009 18:22

I am sorry for being useless. Thank you for being kind. Bad day I think. Rollon tomorrow.

SuperBunny · 29/04/2009 18:24

I know we're not meant to do this Toot, but (((hugs)))

roasted tomato and lentil soup (2, maybe 3)

TooTicky · 29/04/2009 18:28

Thanks Sb.

Twosmall chunks of tooth have just fallen out.Now I have sharpbits.

SuperBunny · 29/04/2009 18:29
Shock
Boco · 29/04/2009 18:35

And that is precisely why we don't do hugs, they are v. dangerous and can cause loss of teeth, or parts of teeth.

Ouch Toot, will you go to dentist?

TooTicky · 29/04/2009 18:38

Worth it for the hugs.

No,I shalljust quietly fall tobits.

If I go they might put me on a hug-free diet.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 29/04/2009 18:42

Go and get it filed down Toot, otherwise you'll spend forever running your tongue along the sharp bits.

To avert dinner time disaster, meal plan and only do meals that everyone likes (so you only cook once). If they turn their nose up at it they can only have toast (with beans if you're feeling generous) as an alternative.

This should stop:

the dinnertime oh-shit-what-am-I-going-to-cook feeling.

you cooking multiple meals.

picky kids who are playing you.

When quiche is good it is DIVINE, when it is bad it is just plain nasty.

TooTicky · 29/04/2009 18:47

Meals that everyone likes? Oh dear.

SuperBunny · 29/04/2009 18:59

There must be meals where most people like most of it?

Can you do meals like lots of things in bowls that everyone can help themselves to - olives, crackers, peppers, carrots, hummous etc?

or Pasta and, if you were feeling generous you could offer a choice of sauce or plain with butter & cheese (or vegan equivalents)

Or Jacket spuds with a choice of beans, cheese or butter or all 3.

Or bread or toast on the table with pots of jam, honey and marmite and a bowl of fruit.

So you only have to prepare 1 main thing and everyone can chose how they eat it.
