For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

3 bed semi built in 1940, in a lovely village (although has been Barrettised into a small town!). I love it. Lovely hall that you can welcome people into - when we were looking at newer houses you had to squeeze past the owner into the living room while they shut the door behind you. We got to this house and the lady opened the door and we all stood in the hall and I loved it already. Lots of space to park and a big garage and a lovely garden which is almost not overlooked, by virtue of the house on the Barratt estate behind being side on, whereas all the others on the street are backed onto our street. All summer our big sycamore tree covers the Barratt houses behind anyway. We have an apple tree and a fishpond and patio doors from the living room.

The bathroom was done beautifully with blue mosaic tiles and taps on the side of the bath and a really nice shower. Our bedroom has tons of built in storage without being too MFI (sorry if anyone has MFI built in storage!) and the smallest bedroom has been knocked through slightly to the 2nd bedroom so both are beautifully proportioned and not too small.

The kitchen is the only slightly awkward thing about the house. Far too small and oddly laid out but I don't know how you would make it better but it's not so bad that I hanker after a new one. Also the neighbours, although lovely, have a penchant for doing up caravans to sell on so there are always 2 or 3 caravans next door but if anyone's coming for the first time at least you tell them to look out for the caravans!

Our first house was wonderful too - the one with the carcenogenic sleepers - and I could write another essay on that but I won't bore you any more!

Banana, apple juice, carrots, peas, tomato, rocket/cuc.

Want to go running but v tired so think that again sleeping would be better for me! Maybe I'll have 10 mins on the trampoline when the dc are in bed. Also went to soft play this morning and ran up to the top of the big slide. A lot.

Thanks SB

at the ghost and bread smell.

Your house sounds lovely Pink, it's a lovely feeling being settled where you live. I feel like that about the house we are in now. Our previous house was a Victorian terrace and suffered from keen diy'ers doing bits here and there, but never doing the whole thing properly. It was also right on the street and opposite a house where a prostitute lived (she entertained her clients at home, mostly taxi drivers), I couldn't wait to move.

pointydog · 28/04/2009 19:16

banana
tomato pasta sauce (but not that much so prob not a portion)
dried apricots
peas (petits pois - I has some)

would have had second banana but need to keep enough for my work snack.

will have one orange (maybe two) tongith

mollyroger · 28/04/2009 19:21

I am really struggling today with eating too much. Although I have no desire to smoke, I fear it is a subconscious substitution. While I am not usually remotely hung-up on weight etc (don't even have scales in the house), I really don't want to end up pigging out on crap and piling on the pounds.
What snacks are sustaining but not massively crap for you?
I like textures (crunch!)

pointydog · 28/04/2009 19:25

nuts and seeds

pointydog · 28/04/2009 19:26

home made granola even better. Try not to put too much olive oil and maple syrup in.

Although from what I've been told, might be very calorific

mollyroger · 28/04/2009 19:26

Shhh! Franny will think you're 'aving a laugh!

Nuts Just not cutting it, I'm afraid.
Anyone know how you toast seeds to get that lovely sort of marmitey-taste?

littlerach · 28/04/2009 19:28

The rice cakes that Guad mentioned are like that, Molly.
Crackers?
Apples?
banaa chipsd?

I have just eaten my own body weight in yoghurt covered banana chips and peanuts.

Guad, the sleepers are dark brown.
Dh cut them ti size.
The steps are about 1.5 m wide and each step is about 10" deep. Dh filled the gap between sleeper and wall with pebbles and it does look v good.
Dh is not usually that handy, so I was v impressed!
But they are sometimes slippy in the rain.

Pink, your house sound slovely
One of the things I don't like about ours is no hall. It is a big porch we use as a utility room, then kitchen then lounge and into dining room.

SB, both mu ILs and SIL have sold their hiouses in CA so are moving back here v soon - eek!
Though Swine Flu may hinder them I guess

ahundredtimes · 28/04/2009 19:28

Lentils
Celery
2 Apples
3 Oranges
1 banana
Raisins
Tomatoes
Cous cous
Green peppers
Carrots
orange juice.

you see what I mean about this diet?

Moll when I give up smoking, which I do from time to time, I like oranges. They take time to peel - good for the fingers - and are strong and orally satisfying Though they don't crunch. Apple? Celery? Rice cake?

I ate two rice cakes today. They're nothing are they? Just nothing.

pointydog · 28/04/2009 19:29

seeds toasted in marmite - har

pointydog · 28/04/2009 19:30

I quite like those seeded ryvita with houmus. Is that too big a snack for you? More like lunch maybe

SuperBunny · 28/04/2009 19:30

Rice cakes, Molly.

pointydog · 28/04/2009 19:31

crunchy carrot sticks with bit of houmus?

ahundredtimes · 28/04/2009 19:31

What's the point in rice cakes though? They're horrid.

Will you sell your house in UK SB? Or hang on to it? I like the sound of your view.

TooTicky · 28/04/2009 19:33

What about roasted seeds Molly?
I have a granola addiction but suspect it is calorific. I must stop buying it.
Dd1 says pistachios.
Um.
Ryvitas'n'hummous?

mollyroger · 28/04/2009 19:33

It's like having the munchies(I imagine.....)

Not hungry, just an intense desire to eat.

Fruit and veg is being consumed as normal but it's not satisfying me IYKWIM. I have no rice cakes in the house - how evil are the dark chocolate-covered ones? I will go and stock up tomorrow.
Could make some popcorn I suppose.
Celery, yes! But need humous....

100 I can't believe you ever smoked, Anne would surely have talked you out of even considering it.

mollyroger · 28/04/2009 19:34

Toot - how do i toast seeds?

nickytwotimes · 28/04/2009 19:34

Twiglets for the marmite taste?

Not exactly healthy but not too bad?

I gave up the fags a few years back.
It is hard going.

House descriptions? Jeezo, don't read mine from yesterday. My house does actually have a lot going for it. It is 200 yrs old, terraced, quite large and a has a huge back garden. These are the things we fell in love with when we first bought it. Sadly, the negatives are greater for us, but they won't be for others. ANyway, not going there tonight.

God, I bloody love looking at houses me. Can't wait to buy a new one.

TooTicky · 28/04/2009 19:35

Molly, do the seeds with tamari. Have never actually done it...but have eaten them..

FrannyandZooey · 28/04/2009 19:35

molly when i gave up smoking i used to freeze grapes and then suck them like boiled sweets
they're very orally satisfying but obviously won't make you porky

bunny we are in 1970s middle of 3
decent sized living room with big window and open plan to dining room and kitchen
3 bedrooms - ours and ds1's a good size but the 3rd is customarily tiny
only little garden, but a patch of grass and enough space to grow a few veg and flowers
i love the feeling of light and space (would be gorgeous if not cluttered with shite) and the fact i can't feel any baggage accumulated here
i have lived in some houses that felt VERY ODD
this one has a peaceful feeling

pointydog · 28/04/2009 19:37

toast 'em as in dry frying or roast 'em in the oven

FrannyandZooey · 28/04/2009 19:37

god that took me ages to type and i hadn't read 100's post about orally satisfying when i wrote it
but that is absolutely what it is about when you are giving up smoking - you need stuff going on in your mouth
