For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I miss eating lots of nuts. One brazil nut is half a point and I had about three cashews on my chicken stir fry this evening.

Guadalupe · 27/04/2009 19:08

In fact I am considering skipping WW tomorrow so I don't have to acknowledge a weight gain for the first time.

pointydog · 27/04/2009 19:10

Just caught up on your portion advice, thanks all. I don't list garnish either. That does seem wrong. I think I am best just listing what I have eaten, as long as it wasn't teensy portions, otherwise I'll end up as anal as the rest of you . No, otherwise I'll spend too long working it out and that won't be good for me.

And yes, I understand about the curry thing, I'll bear it in mind.

pointydog · 27/04/2009 19:11

Do nuts count for hundreds of calories? I thought this thread was about boosting self-esteem

Guadalupe · 27/04/2009 19:14

No, no, no, nuts are GOOD for you

they just count them as a lot of points in WW because of the [good] fat. Same with avocado and olive oil.

WW not very healthy eating really, I actually eat less fruit and good fat and eat things like point free rhubarb and custards which are no doubt full of neurotoxins and the like.

Probably shouldn't mention it on here really!

pointydog · 27/04/2009 19:16

rhubarb and custard chews?

TigerFeet · 27/04/2009 19:18

Oh I remember those from my brief foray into WW... I think they are made of sorbitol and E numbers but they scratch an itch when you're craving sweets

MMM I fancy some rhubarb crumble and custard now

Guadalupe · 27/04/2009 19:19

Yes, little sweets. They are quite nice as are the toffee bars but the rest of it is pretty shit. It works though, have lost 20lb in 9? weeks, have another half a stone to go.

Guadalupe · 27/04/2009 19:20

Probably, TF. I haven't looked at the ingredients but I now they are bad.

Guadalupe · 27/04/2009 19:22

know even

but ANYWAY, I had the most enormous stir fry of vcabbage spinach mushrooms beansprouts peppers and carrot for dinner and vegi sushi for lunch and berries and stuff for breakfast so I reckon it's okay.

FrannyandZooey · 27/04/2009 19:30

Guadalupe · 27/04/2009 19:34

Now you are taking the piss aren't you! I did report in too much detail maybe.

nickytwotimes · 27/04/2009 19:36

Hi all.
Not doen much listing the last few days, but I have been munching away.
Today I have had

dried mixed fruit
pear
apple
banana
salad
peas
grapes

will have some mango later so 7.

I am not quite making the 10, but I am still pleased because it is a big improvement on before!

I have been 10ing for about a month or so now and haven't noticed any change in how I feel at all. AM I being impatient? I guess my motives are to feel less exhausted and to set a good example to ds.

pointydog · 27/04/2009 19:38

All those nuts are lying heavy on my stomach now.

Wish I'd had some rhubarb and custard chews.

FrannyandZooey · 27/04/2009 19:39

no i loved it! i really was waiting for you to turn up yesterday because i knew it would be a good vicarious meal

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 27/04/2009 19:41

nicky sorry you don't feel any change
are you getting your 10 of f+v plus exercise most days?

OP posts:
Guadalupe · 27/04/2009 19:43

oh, ok.

Pointy - buy yourself some tomorrow but the fat kind. There is no need for these mean little versions anyway. Like TF says, they are useful but hardly a great enjoyment.

I like those French bonbons that come in a little white paper. They can't get them atm in my local chocolate shop. Very annoying.

SuperBunny · 27/04/2009 19:43

nicky, I don't think I felt any better either, nor did I lose weight even when I did 10/10 properly. However, I know it is better for my body so that is some consolation...

Guadalupe · 27/04/2009 19:45

I feel better for eating lots of fruit and veg, DEFINITELY, but it does help to combine it with some exercise and a whistle. I mean, if everything's a bit shit then having eaten many mangoes won't help but it can't hurt you to eat more and is almost certainly doing you some good.

nickytwotimes · 27/04/2009 20:00

Well, I generally manage the 10 plus 10, yes.
I don't feel such a greedy bastard glutton as I am no longer eating piles of choccie, but I had rather hoped for something more dramatic.

Yes, I do console myself with te fact that it is good for my body in general, so I shal content myslef with that.

It is quite addictive, the old fruit munching, isn't it? Very pleasant.

Btw, what's the whistle for?

FrannyandZooey · 27/04/2009 20:04

well i would give it a bit longer
if you feel exhausted all the time what else is happening? what about sleep?
if you want the lovely endorphins thing from exercise you really need to be doing cardio stuff for about half an hour at a time IME

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 27/04/2009 20:09

I don't think you lose weight just by upping your fruit and veg intake, but you will if you drop other things from your diet as well?

I am jealous of Guad's WW fruit chews.

Also - serious question - is this thread for boosting self esteem then? Is that the point of it?

I might put in a complaint to the management if that's the case. One month Nicky! I've been here for ages, and my self esteem hasn't been improved by anybody. I've mostly been insulted imo.

In the OP it says this 'Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling' :

I've never seen that before.

My name is 100 and I'd like to sign up. I'm getting on okay thanks for asking, and I'm feeling, well, a little dreamy today and a bit slow, but also hopeful and optimistic.

FrannyandZooey · 27/04/2009 20:12

the point of the thread is what it says in the OP
to improve our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being

thassit
you cheeky lot
