I know it's Sunday morning an d all that but I have been up all night and my symptoms are freaking me out.

I had piles when I was pregnant, they were painful and bled a little, but that was almost 3 years ago.

Last night I had nasty stomach cramps, diarrhoea and then massive amounts of bleeding from my bottom, including clots . I felt really weak and went to bed. I woke up at about 3am and more lower back pain and cramps, lots more blood loss and no poo, at this point I thought I was going to pass out.

This morning, more blood although less of it, lots of lower back pain, no poo.

I dont think I have external piles, and I was wondering if this sounds "normal" for piles?

Im sorry its so early but really could do with some advice. As you can imagine...a trip to the docs if its not necessary is the last thing I want to do.

Don't forget to use a straw ellymae, it goes down without touching the sides!

ellymae · 08/06/2009 13:33

i wont!! am going through the book shelves to get a good book and have lined up baby wipes and loo roll etc.....

TimeForMe · 08/06/2009 13:42

I didn't find it too bad. I hope it all goes ok for you.

MoreSpamThanGlam · 08/06/2009 19:17

Evening all.

Ok, well that wasnt so bad. Im still really groggy though.

I had the endoscopy first (the camera down the throat) I was given the sedative and spray. I thought it would be dire, it actually wasnt that bad and I remember a fair bit about it. I was laid on my side and given a kind of mouth guard, the sedative kicked in and the spray made my throat really numb. I remember it going in and not much after that.

The colonoscopy was next and all I remember from that was being in quite a bit of pain and hearing the doctor saying to the aneasthetist to give me some more sedation. I remember something about an ulcer being said to me and biopsies. Thats all really.

When I "came round" I was blowing off quite a bit but everyone does that apparantly.

So, from what I can gather I have had a few biopsies taken from my bowel and I have an ulcer (that is almost healed) in my stomach and a few raw bits in my stomach.

My results are due on Thursday but I have exams Thursday and I am away this weekend so its now next Monday at 5. Nothing was mentioned about my x-ray so I assume a round up of everything and will be discussed on Monday, no?

I I definitely dont have piles inside or out. Not sure if thats a good or bad thing.

Anyway - Im off for a nap. Good luck ellymae...it'll be fine x

Thanks for the update MSTG, I'm pleased it wasn't so bad for you. Yes, I do believe a stomach ulcer can cause bleeding, so can Ulcerative colitis. I guess we just have to be patient and wait for the results.

So ladies, operation bottom watch continues.....

ellymae · 08/06/2009 20:01

MSTG, glad everything went as well as it did today and I've everything crossed that the biopsies come back with nothing sinister

your post has given me some confidence about tomorrow - I took the lovely picolax an hour ago so just waiting for something to happen! Worse thing is going to be sitting watching DH having a curry and a beer when I'm on liquids only. Might just have to stay on MN instead!

Have a good nap and hope you feel fine in the morning

MoreSpamThanGlam · 08/06/2009 20:02

Oh lordy...Im so sorry.

Off to Google Ulcerative colitis...thanks TFM x

It's far nicer not having piles Well done for getting through it all with so much dignity! I was howling in pain when they were doing things to me and shoving cameras up my bum. They also hadn't fed me for days and days.

I had biopsies taken too. I think it is part of the course. They test for everything they can think of!

piprabbit · 08/06/2009 20:43

Morespam - glad today went Okay and that you'll be getting some answers soon. Assomeone whose been diagnosed with all sorts of things, I'd recommend NOT googling anything at the moment - leave it until after your appt. on Monday . Best of luck.

MoreSpamThanGlam · 08/06/2009 21:50

I keep on getting 3 types of response from frinds and family

  1. Oh, so its ok then? Just a little ulcer thats cleared up. Thats alright then.
  1. What the hell has that got to do with your shadow on your lung and why havent they sorted that?
  1. If it was anything bad they would have told you today.

oh sorry and 4...BIOPSIES!!!!

Fuck 'em, MSTG. Glad it wasn't too horrible and I hope the final results are OK.

MadamAnt · 09/06/2009 08:59

Glad it was bearable! Must be a relief to know you'll be getting some answers soon. And I can't help but think they would have told you there and then if they had seen something truly dreadful up your bottom . I had biopsies taken when I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease, and that was with a pretty healthy looking bowel.

Good luck to EllaMae!

Plonketyplonk · 09/06/2009 09:48

Please don't start googling things until you have a diagnosis! I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. There are lots of different kinds of colitis, depending where in the colon it is, and it affects people in different ways. Crohns is the same sort of thing, but a different part of the bowel.

If you have a good consultant they will tell you everything you need to know.

ellymae · 09/06/2009 18:26

don't want to hijack your thread MSTG but just thought I'd give a quick update on how my endoscopy and colonoscopy went today.

Well the saga continues... I had the gastro consultant do the deed and it turns out he couldn't remove the duodenal polyp (which needs to be removed as its one of those that if it grew big enough over the years could turn nasty)and so now he's referring me to another hospital where apparently they have more instruments and should be able to get it out! So endoscopy no 3 to look forward to.

When it came to the other end apparently I have a very twisty colon - a bit like a cork screw and so he couldnt get the endoscope more than 1/3 way round without causing loads of pain. So after having me lying in every different position going to see if that would help, he gave up and is now referring me for a barium enema! This should show up any polyps but obviously to remove them I'll have to have another colonoscopy. Maybe I could have that done under a GA?

anyway, back home now and still feeling a little light headed but looking forward to my first proper meal in a couple of days...

ThingOne · 09/06/2009 20:03

Poor you ellymae. A third endoscopy for the same thing sound very grim.

You might as well push for the colonoscopy under GA. They'll say they need your co-operation with breathing etc but I'm sure they can give your More Drugs.

MadamAnt · 09/06/2009 20:03

Gah ellymae, that's a pain that you have to have another procedure. Hope you're enjoying some well-deserved nosh!

TimeForMe · 10/06/2009 08:33

Ooh Ellymae. You have my sympathy. I hope you are feeling ok today. Keep us updated won't you

ellymae · 10/06/2009 11:27

thanks all. Feeling OK today altho a little feeble probably due to lack of food!

I've no idea why the consultant couldn't remove the polyp as he came to see me whilst I was sounding off in the loo (!) and he never came back so hopefully the next hospital will tell me more.

one of my problems seems to be the sedation doesn't work very well. I've sort of blanked out the memories of the endoscopy but can remember everything of the colonoscopy including watching the pictures on the monitor so I guess I just need to ask for industrial strength sedatives (or a GA if it comes to that!) if I have to go through it all again.

will let you know what happens next!

TimeForMe · 10/06/2009 11:37

Oooh Ellymae, I didn't want to frighten either you or MSTG but the sedation wore off for me too during the colonoscopy. I came round, saw the screen displaying my colon and shouted "what the hell is that!!" then I told the poor guy performing the task to "get that damned thing out of me right now!" I told him he was being too rough when he went round the corners I wasn't at all dignified. But it did hurt They gave me another dose of sedation to shut me up!

He came to see me afterwards to check I was ok, I think he was worried I might be going to sue him.

So I'm so sorry you are going to have to go through it all again. Make sure they give you enough sedation to see the job through next time

ellymae · 10/06/2009 13:01

I know I shouldn't laugh timeforme but that's hysterical!! Not sure I would have been laughing yesterday morning so thanks for keeping it to yourself until now!

TimeForMe · 10/06/2009 13:28

That's ok, I don't mind you laughing. I can laugh about it now. I left out the bit where I tried to sit up and get off the bed, the nurse was trying to hold me down while shouting at me not to move. I am normally such a good patient but there's something about having a camera shoved up your bum that brings out the bad in a person

ellymae · 10/06/2009 13:46

now I feel a bit of a woos (?) for just lying there and going ow ow ow when it hurt. Think I should have put up more of a fight!

TimeForMe · 10/06/2009 14:09

Yes! Clench those cheeks and make the job difficult for them! LOL!
