For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Poor thing.
I do like the photo you sent me - it lives in the kitchen and always makes me smile.

TooTicky · 04/03/2009 08:24

It is almost snowing.

TooTicky · 04/03/2009 08:26

Somebody has put teenage photos of me on fb
I thought I had successfully hidden from all cameras

mollyroger · 04/03/2009 08:29

Thanks for all words of kindness. I had already done the ''well, if you really want us to appeal, we will, though I think the other school is lovely (plus it is going to have dyslexia money thrown at it soon). ''
I think I have to allow him a couple of days of grief and then pummel his stiff upper lip into place.
100, shiny school is hgs not the religious one I forget you know these things!
Funnily the allocated school does have a climbing wall (he just cried more and said Shiny school's was better...'') No crocodile on the website though
Franny absolutely take your point about seeming to have confidence in the allocated school.

It's just a case of ''come and look at what you could have won'' as Jim Bowen used to say...

mollyroger · 04/03/2009 08:30

And I must stress I ONLY WEAR CROCS FOR BOATING AND CAMPING AND GARDENING AND THEY ARE ACE!
I have never worn them 'normally' (ie in public...)

TooTicky · 04/03/2009 08:35

I tried on a pair of crocs once. Well, fake crocs. They felt like foam boats. My feet felt lighter than when they are bare, almost as if they might float away. Most odd.

Morning everyone,

Crocs - No, No, No, not out in public.

My book hasn't arrived either Toot, unless they have delivered it since I left for work.

TF,

How are you feeling, how is the MS? I remember when I was pg, I just didn't fancy/couldn't stomach anything except carby and sweet foods.

How did you manage to get DD to settle at school TF, in fact anyone who has recently had a school starter?

DD burst into tears in the playground this morning and wailed, "there are too many people mummy!"

She won't let go of me and play when we go to school, and says that she plays on her own, people say she is naughty/too little/they don't want to play with her. When I have checked with her Teacher/the TA, they say although she was very quiet and solitary when she started, she is playing with others now, but she (DD) can't tell me who with.

I am not sure how to make her feel a bit more settled, any tips?

womblingalong · 04/03/2009 11:58

Oh Potato and Pasta does sound odd, but I often make lentils cooked with rice with a potato and onion curry, or potato curry with chapatti, and I suppose a chip butty is carb on carb too and they are all delicious.

I have to say I didn't even know what a chip butty was until I left London

Franny, sorry to hear DS is still suffering, how are you coping with it all?

mollyroger · 04/03/2009 12:12

Wombling,
Ask teacher specifically who she has played with. Then ask dd if she would like Mary or Alice round for tea/play one evening or weekend.
A little one-to-one child bonding outside of school can work wonders with relationships in school.

womblingalong · 04/03/2009 12:26

Thanks Molly, I really agree with you

I thought it might be a good idea to invite a child from her class home to play, to get her to know them a bit better in a smaller group.

When I have suggested this to her, and ask for a name, she thinks of a child, then almost immediately cries and says no, and that she just wants children she knows already to come and play.

I am not sure whther to keep asking or not?

DH says I am getting too anxious and am projecting my insecurities from school onto her (I think that my experiences aren't helping TBH, I don't want her to be the girl with no mates).

He thinks I should just back off, but all she tells me is the unhappy bits of her day, except for the work, she enjoys that.

FrannyandZooey · 04/03/2009 13:33

ooh it is here it is here

bugger must go and do things

You can't DO things now it's here, you have to draw the curtains, fill the fridge and switch off the phone and fully immerse yourself in the story.

Mine is not here yet.

Vegi sushi
curried butternut and pepper soup.

I don't know how many portions that is.

Right, the builders have been asked to move the wall back halfway and move the door to the left so it frees up the space for a bed. Apparently this is having it all my own way but I see it as a compromise. I took them brownies, what more do they want?

littlerach · 04/03/2009 14:55

Wombling, dd2 took a while ot settle.
One thing that worked was an older girl befirended her and "looke after" her at lunchtime (dd2's big worry)
I don't think she really plays with many of her class now, but does play with the older ones more.
I am crap with play dates but must try and sort some out. Also despise the word!!

Cucumber

It is dh's birthday today

Hope everyone is fine...I am o.k., very busy...as for F&V well...I truely need to go shopping ...sigh...so...not great...

womblingalong · 04/03/2009 14:59

Happy Birthday LittleRach DH!

Thanks Rach, I am anxious, so am trying to rein it in and give her time.

I quite like playdates for pre-schoolers, as I only invite the kids of mums I like, so I can have a good chat, although think school playdates are a different kettle of fish!

Boco · 04/03/2009 15:27

Well, I have been on my 'wtf shall I do with life' course. I am giving up illustration and I'm going to retrain as an insurance broker. It was good, but I have a terrible headache behind one eye, I think that's what thinking about life decisions and reassessing your core values does.
