Its six months overdue and I've made an appointment for a week today.

C'mon girls. Anyone else putting it off FOR NO GOOD REASON???

Ages away though so I bet I end up moving it as sod?s law I will be due on.. How on earth am I going to wait 4 weeks to have the test if I am this worked up about it now

Thanks for spurring me on Ladies united, we will all get through this pube pulling, internal scraperthon we are all attempting. Perhaps we should have done a sponsored smearathon and raised some money!!

Thanks to the frumpygrumpy effect (this thread) I've called the surgery because I haven't been in ages and can't remember when I'm supposed to be called back. I am 6 weeks early, how keen !

But at least it's book, all I have to do now is remember!

Thanks madrush and thanks again to frumpy for the thread and to all those who inspired my mad moment to pick up the phone. Gawd what a fuss! Honestly, I am still shaking and despite the almost forgotten and rushed school run.. What am I going to be like in 4 weeks time.. A grown woman who has given birth twice and endured plenty of examinations and a couple of tests in the past. Why such a big deal now???

The Jade effect is definitely happening. The receptionist on the phone asked me if I had just got a reminder and I had to admit I had several in the past.. she clucked and sighed saying "hmmm we have had a lot of women well overdue for a test phone in recently, there is an unusually long waiting list to see the nurse..."

yes yes our surgery was pretty booked up too!

LOl at socks.. I never would have even thought whether to take them off or not.. I'll be leaving mine on! ( makes me feel less exposed )

now more important than the sock issue.. the grand tidy and trimm up before hand.. what style shall I go for??

Mine is overdue by 3 weeks, but booked in for thursday morning. I go to mine religiously and have to until told otherwise every 6 months, due to abnormal cells, which has been going on for over a year now

I can't get one done til i'm 25, but only 6 months to go. My sister rang up to book one in her town, she is 23, they told her they won't do it til she's 28!

I've been having mine since i was 20, I had a letter through the door from my GP. am 26 now! am glad my GP is looking after me tho.

Our lab had 50% - yes 50% more samples in last week - so ladies - you're not alone!

Bella we get told 6 weeks wait time but down south it seems alot faster than that, which is good.

All I can add to this thread is that I once had a smear done the day after my drunkest night of all time - two bottles of champers and six cigarettes (I do not smoke).

Gotta say, smear was not great.

Gotta say, that was due to two bottles of champers and six cigarettes.

Even if it hurt like billy-o (which it doesn't) it's better than the alternative.

But I will say, don't drink two bottles of champers and smoke six fags beforehand.

Also, can people make sure their practice has their current address details? This will make it easier for the screening programme to find you.

I am very thankful I've always had mine as I was diagnosed with stage 1 cervical cancer last may. Dread to think if I'd missed any.

All my friends booked theirs pronto!

Frumpy No idea. My sister told me its something to do with hormone levels but that can't be right surely?

alice it sounds completely bizarre to me!!!!!!! I've been having smears for donkey's years. Not good. I'd try another clinic.....even just phone and ask for the sake of comparing.
