For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

TooT I am going have to go to bed, sorry for being a lightweight. I am shattered, and have just got my period so feel drained. Hope you get my mail.

xx

TooTicky · 17/02/2009 23:27

Am just replying to your email

It is harder balancing more than one child's needs/enthusiasms, isn't it?

TooTicky · 17/02/2009 23:28

Sleep well xx

SuperBunny · 18/02/2009 05:34

OOo, that has made my teeth itch - I hate the thought of yarn on my teeth

Toot, I tend to go with the not fussing re DC food. Offer him/ leave food out for him. He'll eat it if he's hungry. But you need to set a good example too (sorry).

Fairlady - hope your MIL is ok.

Yay for LR's mum - send her my way! Actually, I just had a freakily overwhelming urge to clean. I have neat and tidy cupboards now.

Wombling, we are in synch

Um, this may be obvious but I had forgotten - when you actually spend time with children, doing things that they want to do without being rushed and on their terms, it is all quite enjoyable, isn't it? I realise one can't do this all the time but it has been quite a revelation. I actually enjoyed 3 children this afternoon who usually fight and shout and wrestle. That playful parenting book was well worth reading.

Mexican Lasagne (black beans, refried beans, tomatoes, peppers, corn, onions, tomatoes) [2 or 3]
Peas
Grapes
Strawberries
Cranberries
Juice
Bluberries
Broccoli

Eight or so. Vast improvement.

TooTicky · 18/02/2009 06:44

Perhaps I should read that too SB...

AtillaTheHoney · 18/02/2009 07:24

Wombling and SB.....also in synch...and uncharacteristically grumpy and irritable. having to bite my tongue a lot.

DC's have food issues, and I choose to mostly humour them DD would live on crackers and cottage cheese, fishcakes/fingers, and cucumber (and sweets) if she had a choice. I often cook three meals (with a common base like potatoes).

It just happens to be a battle I chose not to fight. Meal times were a nightmare because, and I am not putting him down, H is very strict and having cooked I was getting dispirited at sitting down and feeling sick a the continuing rows.

Inadvertantly, for us it has worked. Because food is no longer an issue and there is less pressure they are increasingly more easy going. We do 'clean plates get puddings'...which helps a little, but as I used to be a cook, doind different meal issues isn't that much of a stress for me.

FairLady....yes I meant phone textable.....I have my phone with me most of a time and me and a good friend text each other through the day to let off steam and talk rubbish and send each other hugs...often find myself giggling despite myself. It drives the DC's mad.

At home today. DS is off on nis course and DD is a sweetie on her own. We will go out for lunch or something.

Re the crocheting....yes Franny, each to their own. I suggested it because my food issues were stress related and comfort eating and doing something was a distraction. With exercise and diet also I lost over 4 stone so it just worked for me. (and people got lots of homemade presents that year!!)

But foodwise......NUTS. Eat a small handfull regularly. I don't even think about food most of the time...or is it you that doesn't much like them?

FrannyandZooey · 18/02/2009 08:21

yes i see, the crocheting would be a good idea for stress eating
i think i have got some blood sugar things going on, or something, or maybe i am just very hungry i don't know! i think over 6 months their milk intake does increase, doesn't it, or at least, it does if they aren't getting purees and stuff. so he is possibly feeding more and leaving me a bit less

anyway i think nuts are the answer but no, i don't like them much
i like seeds though, maybe seeds and dried fruit

MY MUESLI IS HERE
it came in a cute box and it has "Franny's Fruitloop Muesli" printed on it LOL
it is delicious
full of odd chewy pieces of scrumptiousness which i thinkare lemon peel, mulberries and redcurrants
lovely
i am having to rush as working this am but going to have another bowl later and savour it

oh i meant to say Lemur re: playful parenting - dp has started reading it, is it ok if i let him have it next?
i must focus on that as well as food, bunny
like you say you can't do it all the time
and it takes practice - for me anyway

Franny, just don't be afraid to eat when you need to. I know you know all this but uppermost in my mind...
oats. Good and sustaining. I find oatcakes and raisins excellent snacks.
I know a good not-too-sweet flapjack recipe, let me know if you'd like it.
Dried fruit compote with a hint of molasses - even if you are importing iron, a little of the natural stuff doesn't go amiss.
Do you do tahini? I know most people don't but with yeast extract it is good stuff to have on toast. Also v good for calcium.
Actually, are you getting enough calcium?

Guadalupe · 18/02/2009 09:20

I often put a layer of sesame seeds on flapjacks. I haven't found a low sugar recipe that I like quite as much though. I like them syrupy and squidgy.

This muesli sounds delicious.

TigerFeet · 18/02/2009 09:24
