It Ain't Nece-celery So - 10 / 10 thread - with new ADDED FOCUS

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

AtillaTheMmmmSweetAsHoney · 11/02/2009 00:23

I am afraid I succumbed to docs BBBee.

Tried cutting as much sugar from diet as possible, and yeasty based foods, eating live yoghurt and drinking lots of water. But in the end I think I was just generally run down and needed the AB's.

this is quite informative

Not selfish....these things cloud life a bit.

stuffitllama · 11/02/2009 03:34

ok I am going to have to ask for some time out from the added focus as I'm finding it really difficult but getting there.. and not listing in the uber competitive world means I lose track of you all despite lurking

I'm trying but it's taking some getting used to as I have to sterilise all my vegetables and fruit and it's really taking some organising

all the stuff I used to snack to boost intake like blueberries and strawberries are either not here or frankly when you've sterilised three punnets of strawberries for 30 minutes they're not worth eating

have been eating stuff from the garden without sterilising it (even though the soil's been sterilised you're supposed to) but last night the dog followed me out to cut some coriander and blow me if she didn't squat down and wee in the broccoli so now I have to sterilise all that stuff too

it sounds ridiculous, i live in a world of veg but i'm finding it so hard to access!

TooTicky · 11/02/2009 06:42

Oh blimey Stuff that sounds exhausting!
But of course you must stay.

AtillaTheMmmmSweetAsHoney · 11/02/2009 06:52

Well, I'm with Toot....I think these are extenuating circumstances.

We also now have a lighthearted 'yurt thread' for general banter and support if you feel you can do little more than lurk. It isn't as well populated, but all are welcome and it is for the sake of the good company of people we have got to know on this thread without the focus. (any focus a lot of the time but you can come and indulge your forbidden hearts desires).

Sorry it is such hard work for you and not something that is easy to overcome...take care....x

pollycazalet · 11/02/2009 08:57

ds is ill today so am at home - am on a mission to sort out finances a la money saving expert.

REALLY poor day yesterday, have to get my act together.

spinach
tomato
canellini beans
carrots
onions
mushrooms

Do baked beans count?

This thread is really showing me that my diet is not half as healthy as I think it is.

Did anyone see my question yesterday about whether your kids eat similar amounts/ the same meals as you?

Lully I would go and talk to the teachers if I were you - completely counter-productive at that age to lose playtime - they need to be able to get out of the classroom and release a bit of the pressure. They can surely come up with strategies that don't impact on playtime?

stuffitllama · 11/02/2009 09:02

two bananas
yes beans do I think
gavel required but I think they do

Boco · 11/02/2009 09:18

I have shouted at everyone today, and herded them to school like an angry sheepdog. [grumpy] Everyone woke up in the night, several times, and dp kicked me in the ankle during one of his sleep disordered wrestling matches, and I couldn't get back to sleep because I was furious, even though it wasn't his fault.

Someone is coming round now to get me to do CRB checks for working with children, seems like the wrong time.

bbee, have you tried that canasten tablet you can get over the counter? I've always found that works pretty much instantly.

stuffitllama · 11/02/2009 09:23

Not fun Boco. Hope the CRB checks go ok, can you go and thump some pillows before she turns up.

Toot and Attila thanks.. it's not an issue as such it's just a pain in the arse. At the age of humpty ding dong I outght to be able to sterilise a few veg.

stuffitllama · 11/02/2009 09:26

I mean, it's mroe than a pain in the arse, it's a sort of I don't know completely different way of doing things. And I have to work out totally new routines and such. But god I should be able to.

Had such high hopes that veg would dominate the diet here and they're just NOT.

BBBee · 11/02/2009 09:29

oh boco - there are days like that aren't there. Sometimes the world conspires against you and turns everyone in temporary bastards.

thanks for link At - wsa really useful. I think I will cut down on sugar, butnot fruit - um, maybe it was the fruit... okay i think i will try that tablet - if it goes instantly that will be good.

Okay NEW FOCUS is good for me - I didn;t list yesterday but when i did it in my head it was 6 - which for a bad day is good IYSWIM (and I forgot to take any money to the library so only had enough money for coffee and got home at 5.30)

and I have lost 2lbs - which is good becuase I have been eating loads - so yeah for NEW FOCUS

Franny: I have been obsessing thinking about the ex-man

"I am really gald to see you - I have missed you. You know I am really upfront about stuff and I won't be able to not ask you - was there a reason why I didn't hear from you for so long? Did something upset you? I understand if you don't want to talk about it but I am just so glad we are back in touch and would hate to think it was something I did / said."

then throw a drink over him.

That is what I would say if I was in touch with any of my exes but i have had them all killed.

Okay - more focus.

Hurrah.

stuffitllama · 11/02/2009 10:55

one apple
one carrot

OsmosisBanana · 11/02/2009 11:31

2 oranges
a fairly substantial amount of salady items in a s/wich

3

yowzers. not exactly steaming ahead.

Right, off to find out what the hell the individual organelles of a cell are before seminar this arvo. I suspect I will not be very successful.

TigerFeet · 11/02/2009 12:54

Thanks for all the birthday wishes lovely veggers

Lully, poor ds, sounds like what he needs most is to get out and play. DD rarely eats all her lunch at school. One of the highlights of my day is to peel half eaten sandwiches from her drink bottle of an evening.

OsBa your posts are making me have horrid cold sweaty flashbacks of my student days

I am mostly eating toddler party food. Dairlylea sandwiches and crackers. I think perhaps I ought to stay on t'other thread for a bit

TooTicky · 11/02/2009 14:19

Bee and Boco, you both made me smile.

Stuffit, I would find that hard work. Life doesn't need to be any more complicated, does it?

TF, peeling sandwiches off water bottles - oh yes. And banana strings out of every corner.

FrannyandZooey · 11/02/2009 14:21

yes baked beans count

stuffit how do you sterilise them? i would be living off pot noodles in that situation i think
yes do stay of course, focus is (kind of ) optional

bee do canesten to shift it in the short term, long term, take probiotics (proper ones not yogurt things) and cut out sugar

the river has gone berserk! photos later
we are still ok here though

OP posts:
Boco · 11/02/2009 14:42

We have flooding too - tried to take dd for a walk but the lane is now a lake - all the fields are a lake too, it was quite odd, just the other side of my road, hope it doesn't get any closer. There's a half sunk tractor like an island. We stood and stared for ages, and then went home.

I've not got focus today. I've had focus for a while, I think that's how it goes with me - all or nothing, no moderation, it's either carrot and kale or fags and wine. Today is a bacon sandwich and misery day. Is probably a come down from the vegetable speed.

raisins.
