For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

200g rolled oats
150g mixed nuts (hazelnuts, almonds, walnuts and brazil nuts)
50g mixed seeds (sunflower, poppy, pumpkin, sesame)
50g desiccated coconut
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
150g dried fruit (raisins, cranberries, apricots)
5 tablespoons maple syrup or runny honey
5 tablespoons olive oil

Preheat oven to 180/350/Gas 4
Put dry ingrediants (but not dried fruit) on a baking tray.
Stir well and smooth out.
Drizzle with the maple syrup and oil and stir.
Place the tray in the pre-heated oven for 25-30 minutes.
Every 5 minutes stir it and smooth it out with the back of a wooden spoon.
While it's roasting chop up the dried fruit.
When the granola is golden, remove it from the oven, mix in the dried fruit and let it cool.

Will last in an airtight container for approx 2 weeks.

Tell me more about flax seed. What is it? What does it taste like? What does it look like?

FrannyandZooey · 06/02/2009 20:28

oh it's the same as linseed
small golden seedy things - lots of omega wotsits
if you grind it up you can make egg replacement for vegan baking

I will be making the granola next week and I will report back when I've tried it.

Granola is about the only was to get some roughage (sp?!) in dh.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 06/02/2009 20:30

I know nothing of linseed either

AtillaTheHoney · 06/02/2009 20:32

So sorry no one is either in or near or free to be in Derby on tuesday, and I really can't change the day. I will have a piece of chocolate and raspberry cheesecake, or traditional apple pie (or both) by myself .My customers are being so so lovely about working around my docs appointments etc I don't want to mess them about. maybe anothertime.

Only kidding

I have a papaya!!!

Had the veg casserole..

Rhubarb
Kiwi,
banana,,
what I listed earlier,

Apple stew sounds lush.

I make flap-jack with honey, it is a bit crumbly but nice. even DS likes it.

I have to start running again. I will take it steady and no time trials, but I think it is partly why things are getting on top of me.....

Snacking for my DC's similar problems...plain biscuits, fruit, bread. raisins,..They help themselves whan I am not looking so it is more like;

Chocolate biscuits, sweets, best pudding fruit, anything they can get their greedy mits on.

Have heaps to do.. g'night all xx

FrannyandZooey · 06/02/2009 20:32

well it's just small seedy stuff
i wouldn't say it was nice but it is not unpleasant and it's good for you

FairLadyRantALot · 06/02/2009 20:35

Attila...which way you are going to Derby....I mean, maybe there is something on the way near me, like...

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 06/02/2009 20:40

Franny - hows blw going with ds2? We're on the countdown to weaning. As each week passes ds interest in food is growing.

FrannyandZooey · 06/02/2009 20:47

oh he enjoys it lemur
it's a lot of fun and you do get to eat your food while they eat theirs
eczema has meant i am nervy about allergies so he gets limited diet, but i am not too worried
so far baked potato and baked apple the biggest hits - he needs something with a skin he can hold on to, but a soft mushy texture he can suck at

his skin is getting LOADS better - you can't see it on his face at all
however nappy area still shocking - i just don't know why
am hoping dermatologist will help - next week
it baffles me and nappy changing is a nightmare - he just tries to scratch and will draw blood if you let your guard down for a moment
thank god he is v right handed and only scratches with that hand, not his left, or it would be completely impossible

OP posts:
BBBee · 06/02/2009 20:50

i am glad to hear his skin is looking better - do you think it is the dairy thing?

how is that all going for you?

FrannyandZooey · 06/02/2009 20:54

i think it is the fact i have really got his skin moisturised - finally got on top of a routine applying the emollient (when it started i could not get my head round it at all - HOW was i going to fit this in?) and it has really calmed down
i still have a hunch it is / was dietary
i don't know if dairy is part of it or whether there is more
it is early days yet i think
done 2 weeks now
it's ok but i do lean heavily on eggs / mayonnaise
that would be the next thing to cut out i guess

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 06/02/2009 21:02

ok
title suggestion
tatties and polly will hopefully approve

That artichoke isn't funny any more

Hello

Not sure it's worth me listing today..

1 kiwi
Rocket pesto (0.5?)
Carrots & celery in stew tonight

Was at wrk all day today in meetings and DH cooked tonight so not an easy day.

And no exercise at all whatsoever

Tomorrow I will visit proper greengrocer in town and buy hoards of stuff. I am addicted to kiwis at the moment.

I have a cunning plan to get more exercise in, as soon as it gets a bit warmer...I am going to try cycling to work.

It's 5 miles...haven;t cycled that far for years and then it was Sunday cycling when you dawdle along country lanes and stop at a pub for lunch. I will have to get in training as I will need to do it in 30 mins.

Is it a stupid idea? Does anyone else cycle ever, apart from Nutjob?

FrayedKnot · 06/02/2009 21:09

Don;t think I am going to stop calling you Nutjob, btw.

Guadalupe · 06/02/2009 21:33

I don't geddit.

Guadalupe · 06/02/2009 21:38

Guadalupe · 06/02/2009 21:56

TooTicky · 06/02/2009 21:57

Guadalupe · 06/02/2009 21:58

What are you up to?

TooTicky · 06/02/2009 22:03

I am in bed thinking I should reallygon down for a wee but procrastinating.

What are you up to?

TooTicky · 06/02/2009 22:05

I'm sure there was another flaky fucker here just now
