For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Attila...shame Derby is a bit to far...would have loved to meet you When we were lookng for a house we originally looked in and around Derby...but went for Corby instead...

Pink, you are not the only one scared of driving in the snow....I nearly was crapping myself last Monday...when I was sliding all over the place...and have already arranged to go to the local clinic rather than the Rushden one, should weather be crap on Monday still....
and rofl at you knowing that franny is a nutjob

And wow at that list of all them there veggie recipes...
Another good veggie one (well, for non vegetarians that eat eggs, lol) is Omelette with lots of vegetables ....

Anyhow...

Guadalupe · 06/02/2009 17:56

I read some of it but got sidetracked by my own crapness!

Dinner is sweet potato and chickpea curry with broccoli, turmeric onion fritters and coriander and cucumber yoghurt. I think it smells nice. There have been no chip evacuations yet.

Dh is in the pub. I would quite like a drink myself.

Guadalupe · 06/02/2009 17:57

How many portions do you get for veg curry then?

TooTicky · 06/02/2009 18:01

What the hell can I feed my children? It has to be quick. If they had noodles at lunch, can they have pasta now?

Guadalupe · 06/02/2009 18:02

Of course they can. They won't morph into wheat.

TooTicky · 06/02/2009 18:03

Okay thanks.

FairLadyRantALot · 06/02/2009 18:11

of course..if they like it they won't care

Guad...as for how many protions of v in a curry....depends, doesn't it...

Guadalupe · 06/02/2009 18:35

Yes, I meant is there a limited amount of portion regardless of how much you eat, like juice.

FairLadyRantALot · 06/02/2009 18:41

hmmm...not if it isn't mashed....surely a curry/casserole is no different than having any other cooked veg...

obviously if it is cooke d down, than it probably would be counting a bit less...iykwim...

mollyroger · 06/02/2009 19:08

well, my exercise today has been 2 hours chipping away with snow poles at the glacier which is our slopey road, after watching in helpless horror as all the cars went into slidey freefall. Me and 2 neighbours did it (and then we all had a sledge down the bits we hadn't managed to crack) Bloody ace!

Veggie bolognaise for dinner - carrot, quorn, mushroom, onion, celery, tomatoes, peppers.

cherry cake

Apple
Oj

littlerach · 06/02/2009 19:34

Muelsi
Banana
ERice with peppers, tomatoes, carrots, mange tout and baby corn.

Red grapes

Leek soup

Green grapes

Fruit cake

That's about 10, isn't it?

I think so.

No exercise at all today, ave barely moved. I feel rather housebound.

We're supposed ot be going to Ikea tomorrow....we shall see WE desperately need light bulbs for the kitchen, soon we will be in darkness.

PollyannaNutjob · 06/02/2009 19:39

fark
ing
hell

HOW MUCH did you all talk today?

Guadalupe · 06/02/2009 20:00

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 06/02/2009 20:09

Oh, and where is SB?

littlerach · 06/02/2009 20:12

I'v been wondering that, Lemur.

Tell me more about JO baked granola please.

FairLadyRantALot · 06/02/2009 20:18

well...had that casserole...and I think it was nearer 4 portions made up of carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and leek....

so, 9 so far....may I coulnt 1 portion of red grape , because that is what this bottle of red is made from ...surely wine is full of good antioxidants, etc...

PollyannaNutjob · 06/02/2009 20:18

right
100
we get a big veg box AND i shop AND most weeks do a vast internet shop also
i mean you would not believe the amount of fruit that enters this house
i fill the trolley on wheels thing when i shop
and get eg 6 bags of apples from internet
ds1 eats scads of it
and ds2 flings it about
dc not big enough to raid the fridge so yes in effect i do hide fruit in there
i sometimes say though eg "this is my treat, you had ice cream with daddy, so i'm going to give you a bit but the rest is for me"
we spend too much on food also but tbh i would rather cut down on other things - good fresh food a priority for me, not much more important to spend your money on really

attila "Not being difficult franny, but why? That should be enough to sustain me."
sorry don't know what you are talking about?

100 3 children 3 adults
why don't i know who else is living with you? do you have 2 husbands like tilda thingamy? oh [disappointed]
nothing wrong with them eating a loaf is there? good cheap food imo. cereal also good, or dried fruit and nuts - buy whopping bags from wholesalers eg suma

lol at no-one knowing portions
guad oh no not sou[p again! soup has got all its fibre in - juice hasn't, which is why it counts one
unless you are straining the soup or something

lol @ i am a bit [awe]

wombling oh no, poor ds
my ds2 scratches up against things also, baloo the bear will make me laugh now instead of

100 will do muesli recipe in a minute

i fancy the apple stew v much indeed
although i don't think i can have quorn saus they have milk proteins in

"what have we been DOING for 3 years?" [offended]
SOME of us have been counting portions and encouraging people and writing bulk cooking documents and eating a fuck load of veg
and SOME of us have lived off brie and coasted in here for the roleplay nights [huff]

PollyannaNutjob · 06/02/2009 20:21

Homemade baked muesli: (from Lucy Burney's Optimum Nutrition)

3 cups oats
1 cup wheatgerm
1/4 cup sesame seeds
1/4 cup linseeds
1/4 cup sunflower seeds
4 tbsp ground almonds
1 tbsp barley malt (dissolve in a little warm water as v sticky otherwise)
1 tbsp blackstrap molasses (ditto)
1/4 cup olive oil
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp ground cinnamon
2 cups raisins
1/2 cup desiccated coconut

Mix all ingredients up to almonds in a bowl. In a separate bowl, mix malt, molasses, oil, vanilla, and cinnamon. Mix wet with dry. Spread on 2 baking trays and bake for 20 mins until golden brown, stirring after 10 mins. Add the raisins and coconut and allow to cool. Once cooled store in an airtight jar or tin in the fridge. Really tasty served with milk and fresh fruit if you like. Requires a bit of cash outlay to get all the ingredients but will make tons of batches and save you money on processed cereals.

PollyannaNutjob · 06/02/2009 20:22
