For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

eczema...I think....

FrannyandZooey · 02/02/2009 20:10

it's like a wholesale thing
you club together and do a joint order and get really cheap wholefoods

guad i bet yours are really cool and you all stay up all night drinking tequila

actually ours are nice, i am friends with all the ones in ours i have actually met, but it's such an easy target for eye rolling isn't it? because you know it will be all worthy and dull
even if it isn't

sounds like a good idea....which reminds me that dh still hasn't found out more about this reduced food warehouse ( food not matching up to m&s standards and sold dirt cheap....and local to us apparently)

Just looked on school website, it is closed all day tomorrow.

FFS we have about 2 cm of snow and our roads are all clear as we have gritters, are on bus route etc. And I'm supposed to be working, and there is no reason why I can;t get into work. Now I'll have to make up my hours again by working silly times.

In defiance I shall go out and do normal things like shoe shops, the central library, and getting the bus and stuff.

Pah.

FairLadyRantALot · 02/02/2009 20:29

just reminded him to find out more about it(he heard about it from someone at work)

FK what a nightmare...but isn't there more snow expected anyway...and I suppose if the teachers all live in more rural areas, it could mean staffing issues....
don't think I mentioned that ys and ms school was closed down at 11am....the heating broke down....now, this is quite emnbaressing, as this is a partly newbuild build onto a modernised old building, iykwim...surely the heating system build in would be, erm, a good one....hmmm

TinySparklyWhiteFeather · 02/02/2009 20:31

I have heard of those co-operative thingies...apparently with the right people, they are great...

I don't think anyone does them around here.

Because of my infection/meds/being generally run down I am not making saliva properly and my tongue has sort of split, it hurts and nothing tastes very nice apart from apple juice.

Fairlady, that does sound good...don't know if I have ever had ANY M & S FOOD but even so....

With you on school frustration FK, I could do with them at school tomorrow.

FrayedKnot · 02/02/2009 20:41

Lol at rural areas...they concreted over Kent a long time ago

FairLadyRantALot · 02/02/2009 20:42

lol Tiny, I haven't really had M&S food ever....well, not to my knowledge, but I have heard good things about it!

Your tongue sounds extremely painful, you poor thing...I am trying to think of what previous patients used to do in that situation (I worked for a couple of years in Oncology, and our patients had, due to sideeffects of chemo/radiotherapy, a lot of problems in the mouth area)....
but, I suppose it really is a personal thing....I assume you have some kind of mouthwash helping with this? Chamomile tea, cooled down used to rinse is also very good,....but you prob know that...

pinkspottywellies · 02/02/2009 20:53

Feather do you take any supplements? My mum got the tongue split thing a few years ago and was always about vitamins cause she ate a good diet and could get everything she needed from that

pollycazalet · 02/02/2009 20:55

Oh I love the snow.

All snowed in today - transport up the spout, schools closed. The roads were deserted. We went to the park and it was full of delighted children sliding down the hill on a array of bizarre items - trays, body-boards, plastic bags and recycling boxes. Had a huge snowball fight with kids and their mates - rosy-cheeked fun and all the sweeter for being so unexpected.

Read the posts about friendship and fitting in. Nodded a lot. I think groups with a mix of ages are always good - woodcraft, art stuff, museum classes and film groups have all been places where we have met lots of the more off-road children in DS's peer group. Your DS sounds such a wise old soul 100x. Impossible not to worry though and there's nothing like social stuff with your children to make you feel stripped and raw about things.

FairLadyRantALot · 02/02/2009 21:03

pink, no idea specific location and specifics of loot food etc...available....but will find out...rough locaation corby

BBBee · 02/02/2009 21:04

boco I am afraid I forgive your dp because he makes his own bread with spelt flour.

FrannyandZooey · 02/02/2009 21:22

my friend bought a seed tray and rocketed down with her 2 kids on it polly

there was lots of strangers lending each other sledging equipment which was very heartening

TinySparklyWhiteFeather · 02/02/2009 21:29

Hadn't thought of that Pink (how are YOU more importantly?). Sort of like your mum, assumed that my good diet was adequate.

I have pastilles which are already helping.

Hadn't thought of Chamomile, but had been drinking herbal teas in general.

However I am now Pit bound with a crate of something unmentionable and a self indulgent evening of daydreaming......anyone care to join me with their own poison of choice is more than welcome!
Debauchery and decadence essential.

TooTicky · 02/02/2009 21:33

FairLadyRantALot · 02/02/2009 21:33

TooTicky · 02/02/2009 21:42

okay i have read it

BBBee · 02/02/2009 21:43

right franny everyone.

i made this thing. it was a kind of soup and i put pasta in. it contained:

5 mushrooms
3 onions
2 cloves of garlic
2 tins of tomatoes
2 peppers

If you ate it all how many portions would that be?

oh and i am still caffine free - longest i have ever done and hurrah for me.

Boco · 02/02/2009 21:47

I'm afraid it's soupy nature cancels out all the vegetables and it goes into minus points sorry about that. Same with smoothys. Nuts make you null and void for 3 days. Kale is double points, turnips double or nothing if it turns out to be a swede.

Boco · 02/02/2009 21:47

My grammarie is all fall off.
