For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Am on here hiding from children.

Am v v pissed off with them both for not eating lovely f and v packed supper I made them. DS just announced 'it's vile'. DD drama-queened for a few moments, lowering and raising fork to mouth a few times in full histrionic style, put in a tiny bit and rushed to the bin to spit it out.

Am v v cross with rudeness and food rejection ("SEE what I have lovingly made for you children").

And I know to get uptight about it DOES NO BLOODY GOOD. So am gnashing quietly in corner.

Sorry about your legs toot. DD is learning about Vitorians and is extremely interested in their leg-covering habits, particularly furniture.

I had noticed 100 - this is the third time I've made this fish pie, but I've altered quantities each time, and this was the BEST one of the three. It is very nice.

We are having dinner time ISHOOS atm, with dd2. I'm cross. I spend ages cooking and then my whole meal time snapping, begging, pleading, shouting etc etc. She's being an arse. She either won't sit at the table or won't feed herself, she complains and moans and makes it all very stressful. I have no strategy, and am doing it V badly. Tonight i decided that instead of arguing and snapping i'd totally ignore, and she got through the whole meal under the table, before I flipped and put her in her room, where she sobbed 'I NEED A CUDDLE!' for ten minutes, then came down and I fed her. She's 4! This was not an issue when she was 2 or 3, why do we have this regressing?

It's REAL bee, that's the joy of it.

Boco - my thoughts are that this is very four, that they like to look for a 'fight' somewhere, anywhere, this can change on a daily basis. In the past I have, set up a separate picnic table, put their plate under the table, say that tonight we are all standing up to eat, insist they sit down this evening, plead, shout, insist, set up a picnic table again.

Do a thread? People who made the book might have sensible ideas, some of the above have worked, some haven't.

Or - you could erm, just stop cooking the fish pie for a bit?[innocent]

Oh PollyC, sympathies! ccooking for churlish people is v depressing and cross-making.

Boco, I actually had to feed ds2 quite a lot, and still do v occasionally, for certain meals...I am quite prepared for people to tell me this is ridiculous...but sometimes it is neessary. I think. Well, it seemed to be. Anyway.

Boco, dd2 is also 4 and whilst she is a v good eater and will try and eat practicslly anyhting, she is a bugger at the table.

And she constantly asks for food. 5 mins after we've finished, she will ask fo rmore.

I think it is her way of controlling what she is able to do. In a good way.

No-one answered my question about coconut. If it counts, it could be two portions!

TooT the hip thing sounds difficult. I don;t know much about SPD but hormones can have effects on various bits of the body that you perhaps wouldn;t immediately associate with menstruation.

So to add to my list

That's only 3 fish pies since xmas y'know! That's not THAT many fish pies. It's not even one a week, and actually a weekly fish pie would be within the realms of normal. [freakily defensive about fish pie]

We tried having Interesting Discussions mealtime, but it ended with me and dp having competitive tobogganing stories, and he told them that he had tobogganed into an explosives factory by accident and blown up the whole town when he was 7, just to outdo my story, which was totally true and not at all far fetched, and they both got really freaked out and I then we had an argument because they both got shrill about industrial accidents instead of eating.

We tried getting them to be in charge of making rules - their rules were quite funny. dd1 came up with 'do not burp, do not get down without asking', dd2 came up with 'do not cut butterflies, do not dress as a clown, or not near the table, do not sing unless it is about the food'.

But now I'm a bit rah rah sod off everyone eat or go away!

Picnic table is a good idea, Boco.

We sometimes have a "picnic" in the living room on a rug. DS loves doing that.

I just usually say DS can get down if he's not hungry...then we just get on with ours. I am always clear there won;t be anything else, though, when it's out main cooked meal.

Yesterday, I ate mine and then DS eventually decided to come to the table and eat his, afetr much protesting and faffing. Then DH came in just as DS was finishing, and had his.

So much for eating as a family

TooT...I think you must get some proper advice about what could help or hinder. Aren;t there special belt things you can wear? Would that help a bit when it gets really bad?

I do think that eating as a family can sometimes send you doolally.

We sometimes have Reading Supper where we can all bring a book. That's more like it, especially now dd can read to herself.
