For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Yes Pink, I'm a bit worried by this LAST TWO business. How many have you done?

FrannyandZooey · 03/02/2009 22:29

i have a suggestion
do you think it might be a good idea to focus a little bit on eating, and all try to check in and list our veg and all that
it might help those of us who are really trying to do 10 / 10

i know we all like to chat etc
i like it too
but some days there isn't really any veg talk and i know most of us really DO want to eat well and this is first and foremost meant to help with that
i know this is going to sound bossy however i put it, but there you go
a few people have been bemoaning weight and health etc lately - well, let's do something about it shall we?
this is meant to be helpful and only mildly admonishing

good effort toot

OP posts:
Guadalupe · 03/02/2009 22:45

Yes, Toot, I do mean those. Why so many? Can't you just say 'hugs'?

Sorry, am grumpy.

Franny - I wholeheartedly agree. Too much moaning and not enough doing on this thread. We need bootcamp. I need bootcamp.

I tend to say my whole meal on here rather than a list of the veg. I will away with accompaniaments and list hardcore.

TigerFeet · 03/02/2009 22:46

I am feeling v ambivalent about food atm. I miss eating properly, but I just don't want to eat atm. Does that make sense at all? I've just had to chuck out a load of fruit and salad that dh bought because we aren't getting through it due to me surviving mostly on toast.

My Mum upset me last night, she was being all Pollyanna about my MS, "At least you know it will pass" and most annoyingly "At least you were carrying extra weight, you'd have been in real trouble if you were already skinny". She says she decided long ago that getting down about things was pointless - a great philosophy in theory - but sometimes I just wish she'd say "Oh that's rough, sorry you're feeling so crappy". Hey ho.

Guadalupe · 03/02/2009 22:47

peppers
kale#
onion#
mushroom
courgette

Hmm.

TooTicky · 03/02/2009 22:53

Oh Tiger, do you want to swap mothers for a bit? Mine would sympathise endlessly and effusively until you felt ready to scream. but you couldn't scream, because then you would have to talk about why you felt like screaming and strategies for dealing with it.
Which is why i never tell her anything.

But I'm sorry you're feeling rough. Iy is hard.

And as cchief cook, your eating really does affect everybody;s. I notice that.

TigerFeet · 03/02/2009 22:57

We are somewhat beholden to dh's cooking atm and because he's busy working and doing loads of stuff that I normally do , he doesn't have the time to create things from fresh veg like I would... he steams a mean carrot though so we shall all shortly turn orange

BBBee · 03/02/2009 22:58

oh god franny you are right - okay focus.

tomaotes
mushrooms
onion
pepper
apple
orange juice

6 - oh. will try harder tomorrow.

I walked for about 45 minutes.

still caffine free apart from one coffee at library.

glad to hear you ate something tiger.
aunty boco

BBBee · 03/02/2009 22:59

actually the apple and oragne juice were a lie because it looked so bad.

that makes me a 4

Boco · 03/02/2009 23:01

broccoli
carrots
peas
orange
apple
tomatoes
raisins

Not brilliant.

Guadalupe · 03/02/2009 23:02

ha ha at lying

Sorry things are hard, Tiger. Mothers say the most helpful things sometimes.

Right, my list is shit.

Tomorrow, I am going to eat more fruit for breakast than franny. Yes, sirree.

SuperBunny · 04/02/2009 00:29

Good news, Toger. And yay for Boco's nephew. I love babies.

Sorry about difficult mothers. Mine is wonderful and kind and generous but we never talk about anything. Ever. It can be a bit diffcult.

Strawberries
Kiwi
juice

Bugger. But I did walk a couple of miles in minus 16 wind.

Going to veg shop tomorrow. I love it. It is in my neighbourhood, has been here for years and the people who run it know all the local kids. And they sell all sorts of interesting fruit at decent prices. I might buy a star fruit but I don't really know what you do with them.

BBBee · 04/02/2009 00:33

can i ask something quite boring but i think you will know.

on sunday i made hugely unpopular fish pie - salmon and cod in parsley sauce with masked potato on top (boring i know but didn't have any 'jazzies' in the cupboard)

there was half left so i mashed it all together and patted it into fish cakes with flour and then just chucked them in the freezer.

do you think this will work? c an I just take them out and freeze them?

what do you think?

SuperBunny · 04/02/2009 00:33

Cripes, sorry for poor typing

I just googled 'star fruit' and found:

"It can cause hiccups, vomiting, nausea, and mental confusion. Fatal outcomes after ingestion of star fruits have been documented in some patients (with kidney failure)"
