Original post by the lovely FrannyandZooey

For anyone who wants to boost their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - If you don't normally eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 mins is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restictions on what you eat as long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving your energy levels and hopefully mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you are getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page.

Thanks

I had no choice really. I was shutting down and would have ended up in hospital. Poor dd, she was really traumatised. She is being really clingy atm, won't let anyone but me do anything for or with her. I think I scared her

Butter... did you know that each gram of fat contains 9 calories? As opposed to 4cals for carbs and protein? Having said that, butter slathered on white toast is one of life's ultimate pleasures

FrannyandZooey · 31/01/2009 11:05

ooh you cow tiger

sorry about dd - i think ds1 had similar experience when ds2 and i disappeared into hospital for 10 days
he says he loved it and he wants to go back and play on the rocking horse
but he has been somewhat loath to leave me ever since

Guadalupe · 31/01/2009 11:07

Poor, you, tigerfeet. Sounds really hard. You are doing the best thing for you both now and there is loads of time to have fun and cuddles. She will be fine.

9

TigerFeet · 31/01/2009 11:09

Full of interesting food facts, me

SHe seems better today, as I am feeling better, she's currently being Very Quiet Upstairs [fear]

Boco · 31/01/2009 11:11

tiger that sounds awful, poor you and poor her. Glad things are getting easier again now.

Guad have you already had 9 this morning?

Boco · 31/01/2009 11:12

I'm eating toast with butter and peanut butter. My healthy week made me mostly angry and grumpy. I need a break.

FrannyandZooey · 31/01/2009 11:20

i have been snotty since i gave up dairy

HUGE

i suppose it is detoxing, right?

Boco · 31/01/2009 11:23

detoxing sucks big ones really.

Boco · 31/01/2009 11:23

In the short term of course. Long term it's probably very good.

Guadalupe · 31/01/2009 11:47

Yes, Franny, all that retained mucous is finally making a bid for freedom.

Boco - not 9, no, don't know where that came from. Have only eaten three blueberries.

Was that meatloaf things nice btw? Was looking at the recipe earlier.

stuffitllama · 31/01/2009 12:05

Elimination takes such a lot of dedication when you have a v v busy life I think definitely pat on the back and grumpiness allowed. I had a conversation with a doctor about it once. He said: the good thing is that after the recommended time you do know one way or the other. It's quite definitive (he said).

The problem is then ..if it's not the eliminated thing the process goes on (of course you have been through all this). You must be torn between wanting it to work and wanting to eat buckets of butter again.

Guadalupe · 31/01/2009 12:10

Oooh, we are going to go to Jimmy's Farm in Essex and buy a pork belly for tomorrow.

Was looking up local animal things for this afternoon and that came up. Well, it's over an hour away but it looks fun

Better get on then.

stuffitllama · 31/01/2009 12:24

I like this time of day.. pink sky, darkening rooms, house calm, dinner in the oven, and we will watch a family movie tonight as dh away.

Guadalupe · 31/01/2009 12:32

I forget you're not in UK, stuffit! I was thinking, pink skies and dinner?

It sounds nice.

Guadalupe · 31/01/2009 12:36

Dh just asked if I'm straightening my hair in case I see Jimmy.

pinkspottywellies · 31/01/2009 13:10

Ooh how exciting Guad! Enjoy Jimmy

We have just discovered that dd can reach her windowsill from her cot We put her in with a drink of milk and she was happily muttering for aaaaaaaaaaages (about an hour and a quarter). Then I went in and she had pulled a wicker basket type thing apart and had a selection of things that had previously been out of reach. Nothing dangerous luckily!

IdrisTheDragon · 31/01/2009 13:49

Hello again. This thread is moving too fast (unlike me).

Took DS and DD to Kids Club at the cinema this morning to see Madagascar 2. Total cost of £3 (children are £1.50, adults are free)

littlerach · 31/01/2009 14:10

Pink, when dd2 went into her big bed, she went for a sleep one lunchtime.
All was quiet (unusual), then I heard her shouting "help, I'm stuck".
I ran upstairs and couldn't see her
Then the curtain moved - she had climbed up her headboard, onto the windowsill, and behind the curtain

Her bed is now well away formt he window

You probably will see Jimmy. He's normally somewhere around the farm. The best time to go is the weekend of the Christmas Farmers Market, there are loads of sellers. I grew up a few miles from that farm

Haven't seen Juno. Juno is the goddess of fertility.

I've just had my hair cut and coloured, am not sure if I like either and it cost £98

littlerach · 31/01/2009 14:49

I love Juno.

I cried at the end

I also love the soundtrack.

Enjoy

stuffitllama · 31/01/2009 15:12

Avi I really want to come to your party. Really really very much so. Your guests are very lucky. I suppose you are knee deep in chickpeas and cheese right now. God that all sounds so desirable.

Yes am not here Guad. Is Jimmy a real person then? Pink that is excellent timing for your dd. New talents just when you need them to sit still and stay when put.

We watched Get Smart and ate Latvian chocolates that ds2s friend brought on his sleepover. It was nice. Am now having a middle-aged Saturday night in which I know I shouldn't enjoy but am.

mollyroger · 31/01/2009 15:23
