For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Hello everyone, dashing in to say hello, am at work, so just a quick one.

Molly Roger, Avi, Boco, you are here, hello, how are you all, it feels like we haven't spoken for ages. I haven't been around much, how are you all?

Boco, how is DD2 recovering? It is so draining and upsetting when your children are ill repeatedly, poor DD and poor you, I hope you are looking after yourself.

TooT, sorry about the cold fingers, it sounds painful and frustrating. Can there be some surreptitious washing, maybe while you are midnight baking?

F&V:

Pear
Apple
Pineapple Juice,
Leek soup
Mung Beans
Onions

so 6 so far.

daisy99divine · 21/01/2009 17:21

Umm, apple, banana, blueberries, carrot, salad in sandwich

Now I have read pinks assessment of our food I clearly do pretty poorly - and there seem to be a few name changes going on [sherlock holmes emoticon] sorry, I am hopeless at guessing who is who but will not doubt struggle on!!!

Hello Molly! Good to be back!

daisy99divine · 21/01/2009 17:30

I don't think much of Bernard but I did cry a little and want to be American watching Obama yesterday,

mollyroger · 21/01/2009 17:32

I'm not normaly one for lusting after people in power, I swear. But Obama's smile-marks make me tingle.

[shallow]

FairLadyRantALot · 21/01/2009 17:32

wow at greyskulls cakes...I have zero artsy talent, sadly....I love baking cakes, just not very good at decorating them, lol! But I suppose it's already an achievment to be able to bake and cook from scratch, lol...

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 21/01/2009 17:41

thanks ladies, will upload recent photos tomorrow

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 21/01/2009 17:58

Welcome Greyskull Your cakes look lush. I have zero baking abilities, apart from muffins and rice crispy cakes

TWF - maybe for some reason your body isn't absorbing the iron? So no matter how much you eat, your iron count is low. Just a thought.....

banana
grapes
OJ
carrot
cucumber
hummus
tomatoes
cauliflower
peas

mollyroger · 21/01/2009 18:13

just testing the waters - ds is off on a week long school trip next week. They are sleeping in dorms and doing loads of cold, outdoory physical stuff.
The information says rather frostily: ''centre meals will be more than adequate for your child's needs, please do not send tuck with them''
There is a 'healthy' tuck shop apparently but we have also been told they are only allowed a couple of pounds pocket money for the week to include 'souvenirs'.
Would it be incredibly naughty of me to let him pack a few small treats/snacks for him? I know many of the other children are planning to bring contraband and I don't like undermining the centre but I do remember being that age myself on activity holidays and it's FUN!!
He's 11 by the way, and eats constantly at the moment (and is skinny skinny)
He went last year and apparently the food was pretty grim.

WWYD?

littlerach · 21/01/2009 18:21

Pack the Tuck, especially if others rae doing the same.

Hi Daisy, ahve you been doing real life?

Salad for tea and beans.

7 or 8 today.
Hurrah.

mollyroger · 21/01/2009 18:27

Well, I figured I wouldn't pack it as i am law-abiding.
But I shall tell him ''see those things there on the side... I'm not allowed to give you tuck, but if you were carrying your suitcase and accidentally knocked the stuff in and didn't notice then.... ''

SuperBunny · 21/01/2009 18:28

TooT, that sounds vile. Has he always been like this? How revolting. Sorry about the cold fingers. I just drink lots of tea so mine can stay wrapped around a warm mug.

I love custard donuts, especially ones with caramel ising on the top. We always used to get them in scotland.

I didn't know mark was related to Boco!

FK, it was not the group that fancies Bernard Cribbins, only one of us

TWF, don't you need calcium or vitamin B to help absorb the iron? I can't remember which.

Molly, I used to take Y5 away to the Dales for an activity week (well, geography fieldtrip) and there was always plenty of food available - they didn't need any and they got bollocked by the staff centre if they were caught with food in their rooms (because of mice)

mollyroger · 21/01/2009 18:29

oh Hadn't thought of mice.
Mind you, can't give him that as a reason not to, or he will definitlely want to take food!

SuperBunny · 21/01/2009 18:30

blueberries (2)
grapes
collared greens
mushroom barley risotto
raisins

I have a young coconut (one of those white pointy ones) but I don't know what to do with it.

SuperBunny · 21/01/2009 18:31

Thanks for advice re DS

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 21/01/2009 19:05

FrannyandZooey · 21/01/2009 19:08

banana
apple
raisins
orange juice
grapes
proper coleslaw
2 satsumas

ok got to find 3 more

OP posts:
pinkspottywellies · 21/01/2009 19:12

custard cream
coffee
cake
blueberries
salady bits
satsumas
cabbage
carrots
corn on the cob (I love watching dd eat hers )

Dammit. If I don't start well at breakfast I can't catch up. That would be a good day had I not just needed to sit and get calories in to kick start me!! I had shredded wheat with cream on then cappucino and a fairy cake That is NOT a vegger breakfast with self.

I'm considering going swimming. Votes please?

ahundredtimes · 21/01/2009 19:18

I love Obama as I am black and proud.

I cried yesterday. Partly it was the whole 'hope' thing, but also it was because he was so intelligent and his speech so reasoned and mature and demanding and insisted people work to understand what he meant, and to not be content with saccarine, foolish empty thoughts. It's like finally the goodies have won. I'm fed up of the banal, the thick and the mundane - it's everywhere in our culture, on the television, in politics, in books even - I am sick of celebrities and hollow empty words and maudlin sentimental bullshit we are sold on a daily basis. I don't mind the lies, I don't even mind the greed - I hate the stupidity.

The good guy one. The clever, thoughtful, articulate one, who told everyone to grow up. I agree with him.

And I'd do him. And his wife, if she liked. But in a grown-up way of course.

[bows]

[exhausted]

Er. . . yup . . .hi Boco. Was just passing.

Ooh I love the thread title btw.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 21/01/2009 19:19

Go swimming. You'll feel as light as air in the water. Alternatively eat another cup cake

I also have to fit in about 3 at breakfast to keep my f&v count up.

Yes, vit C to aid the absorbtion of iron. So a glass of oj with an iron supplement is a good idea.

DS is playing silly buggers tonight and doesn't seem to want to settle. aarrrggghhh. He ALWAYS does this when dh isn't here to re-settle him. How does he know, HOW?
