For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

pmsl @ Avi's limerick!

Toot - you know you need to go and see the GP. So, take a deep breath and book an appt.

TWF - I hope things go ok today, I'll be thinking of you.

Franny - I don't know why, but I was lying in bed thinking about your ds skin! Anyway, quite an obvious question, but have you changed your washing detergent? And/or, has the exzema coincided with ds dabbling with food?

DS back to normal sleeping last night - hurrah! I had banana on toast for breakfast today, it was heavenly.

I saw that pasta/potato recipe in JO's book and gave it a miss as potato shaving just seemed wrong.

FrannyandZooey · 23/01/2009 08:51

lemur - detergent no, food yes
however doctor says is co-incidence
am teetering on brink of going dairy free
can i have eggs?
am hoping today will bring some other strategy but we have tried loads of creams and not working
is atrocious now on his body and he wakes up to scratch all night
am REALLY knackered

toot go to doctor

avi are you rev because of, well, rev?

Avi is becoming a combination of a vicar, a president, and a dominatrix. I'm sure there's a special market for that kind of thing.

toot go to doctor, go to doctor, go toot go!

pinkspottywellies · 23/01/2009 09:14

PMSL at both the poems

Was up for couple of hours in the night with sick dd She's perky as you like this morning. I however, am knackered

Apple (half)(almost)

Didn't get Rev thing avi but lol now!!

Guadalupe · 23/01/2009 09:16

Is that why you are reverand? It was too subtle!

Franny - I wouldn't do egg at the same time or you won't know if it's egg or milk. Might not be food at all. Does seem strange it's coincided with him starting food, but it could be that it's just tipped it if other things have been affecting him a bit.

It is really stressful but I guess you can only experiment with stuff.

I couldn't sleep last night and I still got up for run and now I feel shit. I feel I will go for toast rather than healthy breakfast.

Guadalupe · 23/01/2009 09:17

Yes, Toot, to the docs with you!

Tatties · 23/01/2009 09:57

Good morning

Franny - ds has had excema patches on and off (thinking about it, probably from before he had food) We had always used same washing liquid too, but nevertheless his skin improving seemed to coincide with switching to soapnuts. I really sympathise as the scratching is awful isn't it You have probably tried all the creams we have - but diprobase I find the best for keeping the skin moisturised. We have only recently resorted to weak hydrocortisone for a couple of stubborn patches (which are possibly due to getting complacent and thinking it would be ok to go back to old laundry liquid.)

Don't know if you have tried soapnuts - I'm sure there is a website where you can get a sample

Tatties · 23/01/2009 10:01

Free samples here

Also trial size bags here

I have bought from both places

I have been thinking aout pink - it is so lovely to be involved in this bit without having to actaully be heavily pregnant. It is so exciting. and makes me feel very happy. I hope you are looking after yourself.

Toot - I think you should go to the docotre but understand your reluctance. I think part of your problem is that so much of your life is prioritising others and so because this is about you your brain automatically puts it to the bottom of the list. Also you have had so much to-ing and fro-ing to medical people I can see why yet another doctor appointment makes your heart sink. I do think you should go. Where is it? (lump not doc) don;t say if you don't want, but could be a lymph gland from stress and immune system being bonkers (winter and you not eating) so it could just be a mind putting at rest thing. You will feel better when you have been and you will wonder why you put it off. I would really like it if you went. Steps to take:

  1. look up docs number
  2. call docs and make appointment for early next week
  3. put indiary and forget about until time comes.

Okay? and you can do this today yes?

I am also worried about FK's suitor adn I think I am fallling in love with him. Oh dear.

Guadalupe · 23/01/2009 10:24

Listen to Bee. She speaks sense, well, apart from loving Fks suitor but maybe even that is sensible.

Boco - I have that book and I have looked at the recipe and it says very thin shavings. I think you can get quite a variation with the same peeler depending on pressure and the angle.

I still think it sounds horrible though. I've cooked a lot from that book. My favourite is the tikka salmon on naan bread with cumcumber yoghurt. It's so quick and delicious. In fact, last night I varied it with mixed cumin veg and brown rice and that was nice too, though it's not super quick like the bread.

Boco · 23/01/2009 10:37

But, they were quite thin, and also, two mins not really enough for the broccoli either, it just seems all wrong. Yes, I've done lots of the other ones and liked them, the fish pie is good - am doign that tonight. And the korma was nice. And the pea and mint pasta was nice too.

Bee does speak sense on the matter of calling the doctor. (no that loving FK's suitor probably odd, considering we still know nothing about this person, it could be an old lady called Brenda who writes saucy limericks for all we know)

mollyroger · 23/01/2009 10:41

oh lolol franny's poem.

Just so you don't all think I'm totally heartless/self absorbed I have 'spoken' to toot on FB about gp.

No F&V today at all. None!
Just bacon butties, tea and rumpy pumpy lounging around stuff.

Guadalupe · 23/01/2009 11:53

Where's franny's poem?

Guadalupe · 23/01/2009 12:01

Oh, yes I missed that, lolol. That would do it!

Please may I have some more bf advice? I didn't feed ds2 last night because he didn't ask for it and because I have been thinking I would like to stop so I didn't offer.

Now, I read him stories but dh sang a song and that's when he usually has milk so he didn't seem to notice and was happy with his rice milk and also had cup of milk in the night.

I have missed a night before if I've gone out but usually fed later and if I miss tonight that will be the longest since the hysterectomy.

I feel a bit pleased and relieved at the thought of stopping but also sad and worried that at some point he will cry and ask for it and I will have to say no or start again. I am worried that my hormones will go mental as bf has probably helped with the post op slump, also I am worried that he hasn't had any jabs and might be getting some protection from me. Sorry, this is not a short question but I can't resolve it and dh says do what you feel like but I feel bad about what I feel like and worried. I don't really want to give him 'no more bm' as a second birthday present but then again I don't really want to do it any more.

Guad, when dd stopped bf, after about 5 days she came in in the morning and asked for milk and I said 'there isn't any any more' and she didn't bat an eyelid. I don't know about any of your other points/questions but just my experience of that bit. I guess however it happens one feels a bit bereft even though you want to stop. Hope you come to a comfortable decision.

Guadalupe · 23/01/2009 13:00

Really, Pink? I can't imagine ds2 will take it quite so well! We will see.

Avi - yes, I could do that I guess. Thing is, he will ask when I sing him a song and put him to bed, which is most of the time, so if I feed him then then nothing is any different iyswim. I can't really do it any more gradually as he only has it before bed. I guess I shouldn't mind if it's just that but it irritates me.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 23/01/2009 13:08

I would echo what Avi says.

WRT immunity, there will come a time (whether it be today or next year) when you will have to make the mental shift and come to terms with the fact that you are not passing on anti-bodies anymore.

Also you are making it harder on yourself by saying 'what a horrible 2nd bday present.' Your ds will not associate the two, so don't make yourself feel even worse than you already do.

Just do what feels right, deep down you know what to do and how to go about it. Trust yourself

Thanks, lemur. I think it feels about the right time but I'm not sure if that's just from my point of view! I'm also wondering whether he should have the vacs now. Every time he goes near something sharp I think about tetanus.

Guadalupe · 23/01/2009 13:50

Lol, avi, I was going to correct you but it seemed rude when you were offering advice.
