For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I'm not doing too badly, it is always such a strange time and maybe it is true that resolution comes a little with the funeral. I don't know how I ever coped before without running and cycling the way I do now though. And the amazing support of good friends.

  • but have just posted this if anyone has any ideas

here

Shall try and get some sleep, have just noticed the time again on my post. And I shall wind up eating 1/2 a packet of biscuits if I stay up any longer.

TinyWhiteFeather · 13/01/2009 03:05

Thanks stuffit..... life throws some stuff at you sometimes doesn't it?

Anyway, goodnight all...

SuperBunny · 13/01/2009 03:43

TWF, I'm sorry

You are all putting me to shame with all your F&V. I need to try harder.

mangolassi · 13/01/2009 04:33

Tiny, sorry you're having such a hard time at the moment.. wish I had something constructive to add to your thread, but I don't know anything useful

Superbunny, so sorry but pmsl at your incrowd-tastic off-topic post to your friend on the quiche thread I think it's ok, noone thinks this is a clique, just a group of people who like veg a bit too much. Do Americans pronounce clique 'click'? Canadians do, freaks

Oh, and clemen-tyne, while I'm on that topic.

Would list f+v except I've eaten precisely nothing all day - have that kind of scratchy sore throat that you can forget about until you need to swallow, and then you have to screw your face up in anticipation of the pain

Blush
stuffitllama · 13/01/2009 05:04

Hope you slept ok Tiny.

I've started a new system. We have blocks of post-it notes in various places, and I'm putting notes on the children's doors for when they come home from school to say nice things, also you forgot your pencil case type of thing. And they can grab a block and write one to me eg I am mad because I can't watch Scrubs. Not that we don't talk but sometimes the talking goes wrong, I'm sure you know what I mean. I'm really pleased with it, the children really responded to it yesterday.

Lots of used up post it notes to clean up though.

A coriander heavy omelette.

stuffitllama · 13/01/2009 05:05

ps I rofled also SB

dooneygirl · 13/01/2009 05:11

Do things like coriander and garlic count? I didn't see them. Or do people keep mentioning them in the same fashion as seeds? I realize it would probably take a whole lot to get a portion, and I probably wouldn't make it, but we have those all the time.

Am very sorry about DS, TWF. A whole lot of DH's family have died, but the DC's have really been to little to comprehend. DS turned into a very angry little boy when MIL died, but I'm sure it was more a response to daddy not being here for 4 months.

Yes, we do say click. Sorry about the throat, I'd take almost any other sick over a sore throat.

stuffitllama · 13/01/2009 05:15

Dooney I put them in because I eat a lot of them but I'm sure they don't really count, though they are very healthful.

I'm counting up the coriander at the moment as it is growing like grass in the garden and we eat mounds of it, and I'm trying to use it as a detoxifier. I put it in everything and make "tea" with it, that is, a bunch in a cup covered with hot water, and once you've drunk the tea you eat the revolting mess in the bottom too.

What with that and the cold broccoli my eating habits really should not be shared. Sorry.

dooneygirl · 13/01/2009 05:23

Mangoes and coriander. I'm jealous. I need more room in my house to grow fresh herbs in the winter. I'm not sure if I could drink the revolting mess in the bottom, though.

I think you should share your eating habits. I find them interesting.

mangolassi · 13/01/2009 05:44

stuffit, is the post-it notes thing from 'how to talk...'? dd is too young for notes, but it sounds much more appealing than shouting endless repetition of what needs doing.

Click = wrong. Just wrong. But I'll forgive you, Dooney, 'cos you were lovely and sympathetic about my whining.

stuffitllama · 13/01/2009 05:56

dooney

It might be originally, mango, but I picked it up from mn. I think the novelty thing appeals. No doubt I'll get one soon saying "I hate you" but I suppose that's all part of it.

mangolassi · 13/01/2009 06:05

Aah, but even if it's written in caps, at least it'll be quieter than having it screamed at you. And you might even get 'I hate you because...' which might be the beginning of a constructive solution

stuffitllama · 13/01/2009 06:27

ho ho ho
as mothers it is our duty to remain OPTIMISTIC

stuffitllama · 13/01/2009 06:28

right I'm off to start my day
I'm going to buy kilims

TinyWhiteFeather · 13/01/2009 07:08

We have a white board thing with some of the things that have to be done daily, especially schools stuff, although you have reminded me it needs updating.

I am dreading DS starting secondary school as he struggles to remember to get out of bed most days, let alone a whole timetables worth of stuff.

Not much sleep. but I work early on a tuesday and have had a good natter about life, the universe and everything with the woman I work for, so I feel, well it may sound daft, but I feel as if I have had a bowl of soup!

It makes sense to me.

Cycling to work today and am hoping to get filthy and sprayed with muddy water on the way home.

That one might only make sense to me also.

Would love to come shopping with
you for kilims stuffit, enjoy.

TinyWhiteFeather · 13/01/2009 07:10
TooTicky · 13/01/2009 07:27

What are kilims?

We went to an Asian shop yesterday and came away with banana blossom in brine (what the hell does one do with this?), some strange crispy things with ube - which turns out to be purple yam and Very Purple Indeed, and a basil seed drink with honey which is rather like drinking very small frogspawn and surprisingly not unpleasant.

Feather, I haven't added to your thread because I am so utterly useless with my children that I would probably only be a hindrance.

Lots of love to everybody.

TooTicky · 13/01/2009 07:28

Ooh Feather, you snuck in while I was reading and typing slowly.

TooTicky · 13/01/2009 07:30

God don't talk about teeth grinding, my jaws are in danger of changing places.

mangolassi · 13/01/2009 07:41

Ooh, banana flower! Dp makes a kind of clear soup with banana flower plus ginger, shallots, garlic and pulse of your choice. Dp uses something that looks like a yellow lentil, I think lentils would work. Throw in some coriander at the end. It's supposed to be super-healthy

TooTicky · 13/01/2009 07:55

Great, thanks Mango

mangolassi · 13/01/2009 08:02

No problem, am amazed that I can offer advice about cooking on the all-foodie vegger thread

TinyWhiteFeather · 13/01/2009 08:11

Having just thrown sorbet away, I don't think I am in a position to offer ANY advice on cooking.

Hullo Toot, I am out at work today and going for a thrash on the bike after. I fully intend to completely knacker wear myself out and will probably have jelly legs later.

Have a big bubble of energy in my chest that I need to leave in the hills.

Despite the dodgy weather I hope all have a good day and find something to smile about.

TooTicky · 13/01/2009 08:47

This shitpit of a house is getting me down so I'm going to take dd2 to playgroup then go and crochet in the library.
