Pak choi to the world - the gourd is come! 10/10 thread

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Wow Franny, they both look fab (although think I would opt to go with ds1!)

I really should be in bed now. Just watching a new Law and Order then going to bed.

FrannyandZooey · 10/01/2009 23:22

yes i fancy the first also but i think ds2 will disgrace himself less at the second
dp would NOT be interested in the second and it isn't suitable for ds1, so poor me has to go by myself

Hope you have a nice relaxing time. I'm going to stay with my sister on my own for a weekend before new baby comes. Will be odd and I keep thinking in terms of dd being there (like if BIL is there sis and I can go out for dinner - oh no! we can anyway!)

dooneygirl · 11/01/2009 03:05

Congratulations, TF. I'm almost afraid to be on this thread, because I'm old and done with having kids, and you all are so fertile, I'm afraid I will catch it.

Not very good, but we were out and about all day, and I really seem to suffer if we don't eat all of our meals at home. I guess I could go eat some veggies now, but can't fight the urge of the French silk pie.

Pink, DS was 2 and 9 days when DD was born, and the baby came home with a present for him. That went over really well.

stuffitllama · 11/01/2009 05:46

Morning
Dooney what is the French silk pie?
Pink did you enjoy your lovely lazy evening? Re toddler and baby -- I did it spectacularly badly the first time and had to focus very hard the second time around to make a better job of it. It did involve shutting out the world for a while and the five of us bonding and just saying "no" a lot to other people. Sounds miserable actually now I write it down but it was a lovely quiet time together.
cold broccoli 2 portions for breakfast
and cold carrots
absolutely disgusting but job done up to a point

stuffitllama · 11/01/2009 05:49

oh have a good time at your things Franny
what a shame you can't do both! but you'll be able to have a
lovely supper out
sounds like a great day
hello tatties

dooneygirl · 11/01/2009 05:50

A chocolate pie with a lot of yummy but fattening ingredients.

I could not face eating that for breakfast. Good for you.

stuffitllama · 11/01/2009 07:34

nice name for a pie!

I'm not sure whether to start a thread about something but I'll ask for tips here first if you don't mind.

I'm re-engaging with my efforts to improve ds1's concentration, focus and moods through nutrition. He's 13 and has just started taking linseed and zinc once more. They've both worked in the past. We have the Omega oils too and I'm planning (don't know if this will happen!) to feed him lots of coriander as a sort of cheap detoxifier.

Does anyone have any other tips or ideas? I'm quite disorganised and if we have a long and complicated program I fear it will fail through my own lack of focus. I'm going to research local "brain foods" as some of those we used to eat in Europe aren't available or are prohibitively expensive. I know it's a long shot but would be grateful..

new year, new leaf and all that.

FrannyandZooey · 11/01/2009 08:29

i have heard linseed stuffit but that's probably covered by your omegas
oh you have linseed already
sorry i don't know any more

mornig chaps
wish me luck
2 hour trip there with baby of slight crankiness (not bad but should only be 50 mins grr) and then we are all sharing a room for 2 nights WHY i thought this was good idea i don't know
ds1 v light sleeper and ds2 v noisy sleeper! i predict we will all start the day around 3 am tomorrow
and it's dp's birthday

I think I am more addicted to MN (especially this thread) than I realised, as I can't resist lurking. Had a very emotional couple of days and telling the DC's, esp. DS was really traumatic.

Not eating a great deal of anything, but walking and running a lot. Keeps my head clear.

You really are a lovely bunch of people....xx

Pink, My DS was the second person to hold DD, (supported by cushions etc) and he seemed to bond instantly. Until the final moment he kept coming to give the 'girls', as he called us, (me, the midwives and the physiotherapist) moral support. DD was born at home.

TooTicky · 11/01/2009 09:41

Feather xxxxxx

Good luck Franny. Have fun

daftpunk · 11/01/2009 09:46

hi tooticky

where's filthymindedvixen? haven't seen her name around on mn for a few days.

TooTicky · 11/01/2009 10:04

Hello daftpunk

Fmv is taking a wee break. Apparently she has something called a life...

daftpunk · 11/01/2009 10:10

a life?.. what's that?....don't explain, i'll google it later.

thanks tooticky... and happy new year to you all

littlerach · 11/01/2009 12:29

Hey, Feather, nice ot see you.

Pink, have a lovely time at your sister's, when do you go?

Fran, that looks like a great time, except the travelling bit!

Just dd2 and me today as dh has taken dd1 to see hie other 2. My sd is 16 this week!!!! Dh feels old, lol.
We are having a v inside day and clearing up. Dd2 has requested pasta salad for lunch

littlerach · 11/01/2009 15:24

Where are you all

pinkspottywellies · 11/01/2009 16:40

I'm here! But not for long. DH is out with dd at ILs, I've just had 2 hours sleep and now I need to make up a bed ready for my mum coming to stay tomorrow and get the place looking reasonably presentable. Then I need to paint the dining room woodwork tonight. (I say make a bed, I also have to clear a space to put it )

Oh god I'd rather just sit here! So tell me off if I'm still hanging round!

Oh! Twice!

TigerFeet · 11/01/2009 17:28

Steady on Pink that sounds like hard work!

Mou, thinking of you and sending lots of love xx

Dooney I'd be really interested in any mango recipes you have too... I have one in the bottom of the fridge atm and much as I'd love to just snaffle it, perhaps I could be a bit more creative!

dooneygirl · 11/01/2009 17:57

TF, I would love to share them with you, but they're all in American, and I'm not sure if you have the measuring tools for them. I'm looking to get a food scale so I can cook internationally. (Mostly I want one to make Mars' lemon drizzle cake, as someone made it for me once, and I will always have good memories of that. And it was delicious.)

TWF, I am very sorry about your aunt. It really is indescribable losing someone to cancer, isn't it. I hope you can find as much peace as possible in the days to come.

pinkspottywellies · 11/01/2009 18:22

Right. Cleared space, inflated and made bed, cleaned bathroom. Halfway through hoovering upstairs so I'd better finish before they get home.

I'm eating a satsuma - although I think it's a clemen-tyne. We haven't had the newbies thoughts on that particular 10/10 divide yet, and there are many newbies. Please declare which camp you belong to if you haven't already - clemen-tyne (the correct one) or clemen-teen (the wrong one). Thank you.

dooneygirl · 11/01/2009 18:32

Definitely clemen-tyne. No question about that. I'm glad to see you hold the correct views on that, pink.
