For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

TooTicky · 08/01/2009 10:42

Have a big hairy zero so far today as have been to the dentist but was wondering how many a veg packed soup would count as? And if it contained lentils?

Thank you oh knowledgeable ones

littlerach · 08/01/2009 11:33

Depend on veg and whether it is whizzed up I htink.

And kentils do count.

[smile

Hi MamaG, how are you?

FrannyandZooey · 08/01/2009 13:29

FrannyandZooey · 08/01/2009 13:30

i would guess a bowl of soup could be a few portions
i don't really know though
perhaps someone else knows
bunny is usually quite good on portion control? bunny can we make you portion monitor?

OP posts:
FairLadyRantALot · 08/01/2009 14:27

now Franny...didn't we to have a fight disagreement about this in the past...where I said that a Juice should count for as many portions of f&v you put in...and you said, no to that
obviously whizzed up is not quite the same as Juice , but I suppose my argument in this case would be the same as it was for Juice....i.e. depends which way you look at it...i.e. if it is about vit/minerals, etc...than it should count as many as what is in it...if it is fiber, than you can't fully count juiced or whizzed f&v, because the fiber is either removed or "broken down"...iykwim....

anyway, so Franny, when did you become so "mellow" and non-committical about this, eh?

FairLadyRantALot · 08/01/2009 14:31

oh...can now add more "moorish chickpeas" (i.e. toms, peppers, chickpease, sweetcorn and onion) and a Banana to my daily f&v count

MamaG · 08/01/2009 14:38

is this a trick Franny?

FairLadyRantALot · 08/01/2009 14:41
FrannyandZooey · 08/01/2009 14:54

god we go round in circles with this juice thing don't we!
it isn't just the vitamins and minerals, it's the fibre as well
there isn't the fibre in juice, it's been removed, so it doesn't have all the health benefits
the fibre is still there in liquidised food although it has been more broken down
i said in an earlier post that the ultimate way to get your 10 would be to eat the raw fruit and veg
then i suppose on a sliding scale it would be whole but cooked, then things like blended soup
but who is counting, really?
the thing you can;t do is have all your portions as juice, because of the lack of fibre
but when we were talking about soup, i was wondering how many portions of veg it contained, nothing to do with whether it was liquidised or not
i don't know how many portions of veg would be ina a bowl of soup? does anyone?

oh dear...I wasn't really being serious you know....

like I said I realise the fiber is an important part of f&v...

honest peace

TinyWhiteFeather · 08/01/2009 14:59

still madly busy, someone is stealing my time...

hello all!

Onions,
raspberries,
grapes,
juice,
tomatoes,

exercise ..walking and cleaning very energetically!

Must dash!

Blows kisses to all.

pinkspottywellies · 08/01/2009 14:59

MamaG!! How's it going? Tell me how easy it is to have a new baby [hopeful]

I had 2 portions worth of kiwi, grapes, blueberries and satsuma after lunch. But I might have forgotten to have any fruit with breakfast. What can I have for dinner?

Guad when you said you had kiwis I was reading as i scrolled up and I read that you'd eaten kids!!

pinkspottywellies · 08/01/2009 15:05

Depends on how big your bowl is - you'd need to weigh your soup. Aren't the portions based on 85g or something? Then you'd have to allow for the water

FrannyandZooey · 08/01/2009 15:23

no more dissent 3 or it's the pit
am grumpy as have weekly babysitter but as usual ds2 slightly fretful and needs carrying around (i don't mean as usual for ds2, but as usual when i have babysitter)
so am basically paying someone to play with ds1 while i enjoy privilege of standing up jigging ds2 about

TinyWhiteFeather · 08/01/2009 15:30

Have just had a mouthful of foulmouthed abuse off DS because I said I was going to share the raspberries out equally and not give him more.

Sorry to rant but I am gobsmacked.

FairLadyRantALot · 08/01/2009 15:37

and oh no about your Babysitter-going -ons....that sounds like a nightmare....

but lol at Tiny, on getting foulmouthed abuse over fruit....sorry, for ....but...

pinkspottywellies · 08/01/2009 15:38

I would share them equally between anyone who has been polite today [hard-nosed bitch]
